something that is so weird abt the way black women in the media are treated is how their looks can predict 99.99% of their success but no one really acknowledges it. all these women are talented and usually over qualified for the opportunities they’re given. the only differences between them is how they look and (most often) their skin tone. in music, you can see how the successful female rapper almost has a “uniform.” always with a flat tummy, huge bum and breasts, very sultry/chic look. any deviation from this is seen as a flaw and men complain that they can’t lust over them like they can with megan thee stallion or ice spice. jorja smith intentionally built her career around her soulful music, not really putting much emphasis on her looks or body besides a couple collabs. but that didn’t stop men from obsessing over her looks and saying frankly disturbing things to her when she was only a teen. now that she’s gained weight, their disdain for her has flooded social media sites. doja cat and megan thee stallion has experienced the same thing on the opposite end of the spectrum with people complaining that they lost their curves after weight loss and therefore their sex appeal. but why is this specific type of sex appeal a requirement in the first place? why is the black female body so intertwined with their ability to be successful, especially when it comes to public careers?

all of this is to say that i find the reaction to jorja smith’s body incredibly disturbing and disheartening. it’s scary to see that even if they choose to not emphasize their sexuality, the audience will still only see them as a black body to lust after.

Just saw a video analysis about if the Scooby gang could beat Light Yagami. I wasn’t worried about the gang but I didn’t realize how cooked Light was. Velma alone is way smarter than L, Freddy would instantly see through the trapped drawer that hid the Death Note and Scooby is such a wildcard overall, who is immune to the Death Note because he isn’t human. So even if he gets the rest of the gang, Scooby is coming with a vengeance.

Funniest scenario is Shaggy and Scooby trailing Light only to be confronted by him. Light tries to kill Shaggy but can’t because he would never just give away his name as “Norville Rogers.” Light thinks Shaggy is some genius playing fourth-dimensional chess with him.

It’s weird how much dudes freak out when the standards they apply to women are applied to them. I just saw a video of a lady who was disturbed and dismayed after her boyfriend admitted his body count was 30+ when he had initially lied and said it was 9 and the comments were chock full of dudes who were like “Oh, so body count matters now???” OBVIOUSLY, SINCE HE LIED ABOUT IT. It’s the same phenomenon where men will bash single moms and all women with children and get mad if a woman says “I’m not interested in dating a man with children or becoming a stepmother.” or lie and finally admit they have 9 kids by 13 different baby mamas 6 months into the relationship.
