My girlfriend and I have been together for almost 5 years since college started. I’m basically part of her family and we have been madly in love. A few months ago she and I moved into a buddy’s place and this was always the goal but…I’m not happy. I was happy when we lived at our parents’ houses but now everything has changed despite her and I being the same people. I think the reason for this is because things feel like they matter now. Who she is as a person suddenly feels like it matters because this is the beginning of the rest of our lives and it just makes me feel so…jaded?

Something I’ve found myself to be struggling a lot with myself lately is how my dad used to tickle me when I was a kid. My head always had to be on a swivel because any pass-through in the hallway, any time spent on the couch, any family party, my dad was ready to pounce. Fingers jamming and wiggling in the knees, the sides, the...feet. Thumbs in the feet HURT. No matter how much I cried out “Dad please! It hurts! Stop!!” No matter how much I thrashed around, sometimes the best thing to do was just lay there and take it. Every time I think about it my heart rate quickens and the bottoms of my feet feel...uncomfortable. Like I wish I could crawl into a corner, leaving my feet behind. This feeling has been bubbling up more and more to the point where I feel like crying. But I feel so awkward explaining this feeling to anyone. People go “oh wow, you were tickled as a child? How terrible... /s” I feel like a huge pussy and that I can’t talk to anyone about it. My girlfriend of four years got to hear it after I was freaking out at work but she brushed it off. “Wow. Such abuse.” was all I got. While I usually appreciate the passing Doge meme I felt like my opening up to her was shut down. That’s so weird because she’s always so caring and sweet, always ready to hear my feelings. We did talk about it and she did apologize for kidding around, saying that I sound “traumatized” and “it’s weird that something that makes you react by smiling and laughing is so horrible to you.” And it makes me think, am I traumatized by tickling? I mean, it’s just tickling right? Sure, I shudder and cringe at the feet whenever I think about it, and I despise my feet even being touched by anyone’s hands, but do I *deserve* to call it trauma? I mean, it’s not like I was raped or anything. Sure, my body was touched in ways I did not consent, it hurt me despite my body reacting in ways that would usually be considered an achievement, and I always feel uncomfortable in my own body when I think about it.....
