chadwickboseman It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman. 

Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV. 

⁣A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. ⁣⁣

It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther. ⁣He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. ⁣

The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. ⁣⁣

Hey everyone! Quick announcement, please read the entire thing fully.

Today in Kenosha, police were called to a domestic incident where a fight had broken out between two women. Jacob Blake was trying to break up the fight and when he walked away, police shot him 7 times in the back when he was getting into his car where his kids were. This is why we say Black Lives Matter. Jacob Blake's life MATTERED. His 3 (three) kids will now grow up without a father because some officer (pig) got fucking trigger happy.

I'm tagging people who I need help from to spread this around.

seems like a good day to watch Dirty Dancing and cry because I’ll never have a coming-of-age summer romance story with a hot dance instructor at a privileged resort in Upstate New York :/

people really acting in 2020 like they're being an ally by harassing an old woman for saying the characters she wrote in the 60s, based off real people weren't gay. Same people that no doubt understood why jk rowling going back and saying dumbledore was gay was ridiculous and not representation. putting lgbt or poc faces on straight white boys stories isn't representation. We actually have our own stories, and very experiences.

okay none of this entire situation was about trying to say any character was gay? s.e. hinton retweeted smthn transphobic and publicly put multiple people on blast for saying she was being transphobic and she knew exactly what she was doing and the platform she has because it's happened multiple times on plenty of occasions. i've put my twitter account of full private mode and yet i've still had people sending hateful rhetoric and calling me a girl in my notifications for a little over 16 hours straight now.

also even in the instances where people have tweeted her or whatever about the characters being lgbtq or nonwhite, they absolutely have not been "harassing her". it's usually relatively lowkey and nonthreatening, not to mention it's quite often kids who have just read the book in class. she has every option to ignore it instead of calling people heterophobic and saying she's being discriminated against for being straight. it's not that big of a deal for people on the internet to use a book that means a lot to them to cope with the challenges of being poc or lgbtq. it doesn't affect her.

so no, it's not representation in the way that poc and lgbtq people SHOULD expect and receive from publishers, but it's a book that means a lot to a lot of people and it's absolutely not harming anyone to think of it differently so it's suited to your enjoyment. but hinton has been actively racist, homophobic, and transphobic outside of any context of her book, and that's where there's an issue.
