I did some digging and didn't see this question so I hope I'm not asking something you've answered. I'm looking for some Carbon Black ink for watercolor sketches and I'm told they can be hard on pens. Do you have a recommendation for a pen that could handle it?
Hi there!
I don't think I've answered this one, mostly since i have limited experience with Carbon Black myself.
The main thing is, this ink is really only hard on fountain pens if it dries out. So a good pen for this ink would be either/and 1. a pen you use often enough it doesn't get the chance to dry out; 2. a pen with a very good seal.
There are many such pens around, but the best one I can personally recommend is the Platinum 3776. That seal is phenomenal.
Given that it is a little pricey, I'd also look at some cheaper Chinese pens. My Jinhao 82 and 8802 have pretty good seals. The only type of pen I'd definitely stay away from with this ink would be demonstrators; I have heard a lot about staining issues.
Here's a thread on the fountain pen subreddit you may find useful:

Do I think the Lamy 2000 in green is outrageously expensive? Yes.
Do I think special/limited editions are just a marketing ploy? Yes.
Do I think I'm part of the problem? Yes.
Did I buy it?

goulet pens just posted an apology video. (check my stationery drama tag or /r/fountainpens for more on what happened. long story short is they are core members of a church that says being gay is as bad as being a murderer, and are helping them build a new church.)
in it, they denounce discrimination against people based off of sexual orientation, and insist that they do not personally discriminate. now there are a lot of words about how much they were shocked by their church's stances, how long they spent discussing their shock and surprise and horror with their church, and how much they disagree with their church's opinions. but notably missing is:
any explanation why they deleted so many posts, including one that just had a picture of someone's journaling setup with a rainbow notebook that had "have a gay day!" on it
any explanation why they were blocking so many people, including those politely asking for clarification because this church and goulet have been so intertwined, or any commitment to unblocking those people
any mention of whether or not goulet pens profits are going towards helping build the church
any acknowledgement of how they had to sign an agreement that they agree with their church's positions when they became members
any explanation of how they managed not to know about their church's official positions when they had to sign paperwork saying they agreed with those positions
any mention of whether or not the church changed their positions at all after the aforementioned very long conversations
any commitment to leaving their church which officially says being gay is as bad as murder if those positions have not changed
any mention of whether or not they are going to stop helping that church build another church where the pastors will continue to preach homophobia
how they managed to get so involved with a church to the point they were willing to build them another church without knowing said church's positions
but, well. you tell me. what do you think?

Inked (and re-inked) the newest rotation. 25 and counting (I still have a good few pens to clean and re-ink... I'm feeling a distinct lack of purples this round).

The flock has grown!

The second (technically third, but we don't count the Pelikano I destroyed around age 9) Pelikan added to the collection and I think I can pretty much stop here.... I think.
The M805 Anthracite Stresemann (in EF) - the bird I've had my eye on for years. Looking forward to testing out this beautiful nib (which I just *know* will be juicy).
Now to pick an ink....

DC Pen show 2024! Barely had any time for pics, and this year was an abject FAILURE to stick to the budget... But we got a nrand new Pelikan M805 Anthracite in EF, a ton of cool ink, more pen storage (because we *will* need it) and so. Much. Paper.

totally feel you on sailor 123. 224 is somewhat similar [a little darker] and it's one of my all time favorite inks. it's got so much depth.
True! I was actually between the two when I decided to buy my first couple of Sailor inks, but then one went out of stock and here we are 😅
I'm not going to lie, it was a little underwhelming at first, but the right paper does make all the difference with these inks

The Sailor Studio 123 ink is growing on me. For once I feel like I don't need the broadest possible nib to make it look good -- really digging it in this Lamy EF

Went with the orange, and this nib is incredible! Granted, it doesn't seem to love my Clairefontaine paper, but on Midori and Leuchtturm it was smooth as butter and super juicy. Perfect with some Iroshizuku fuyu-gaki!
