Mayo 😍
Tumblr media
It's not exactly high summer, July on Ireland's west coast - but I'm not complaining as this is more interesting than heat haze sunshine.

Check this out in Kerry 😍

KIllarney National Park, Co Kerry, Ireland.
One of the things my wife and I really wanted to do on our recent trip to Ireland was revisit our old friend, the Torc Waterfall, in Killarney Natl Park. As it happens we were staying at a place off of Kenmare Bay along the Ring of Kerry for some of the time, and it's only a 50 minute drive (give or take) up into Killarney.
I actually shot this one on my point and shoot Lumix. I have others that will come in time from my much higher resolution Nikon D810.
Because of some recent rains, the river that feeds the falls was running fuller than it had been back in 2018 when we were there last. As a result my shots this time around are a little more satisfying to my personal tastes.
Let's go exploring, international edition.

A Hidden Gem in Mayo
📍Portacloy Beach
Tumblr media
Portacloy beach is one of Mayo's hidden gems. Situated near the village of Carrowteige and not too far away from Rinroe Beach (a beach that has narrowly missed out on this list), it's a hidden beach which hasn't been discovered by tourists yet.
Tumblr media
On a hot Summer's day this photo above was taken. There wasn't a sinner on the beach except ourselves. Felt like we were on a private island.
Tumblr media
The photos say it all. A must visit beach.
Tumblr media
Even in the Autumn months, the beach is stunning with the view out towards the Atlantic Ocean.
Tumblr media
This photo was taken in October and boasts the lovely view of the beach from the beginning of the Carrowteige Loop Walk.
Tumblr media
A picture captured by a GoPro really shows how clear the water is.

📍Nephin
Tumblr media
Nephin is Ireland's highest standalone mountain at 806 metres, as well as the second highest peak in Connaught.
Tumblr media
Situated near the village of Lahardane and west of Loch Conn the views from the top are breathtaking.
Tumblr media
Length: Approx 4 hours
Height: 806m
Tumblr media
What to wear: Waterproof hiking boots (because of the boggy nature), waterproof pants (advisable, but not necessary), warm top, hat and gloves (depending on time of year). Make sure to look at the forecast and plan accordingly.
Tumblr media
How to get there: Type in 'Nephin Car Park' into Google Maps and it will lead you to the starting point of the climb. From there, there is a trail which you can follow all the way up and down the mountain.
Tumblr media
Tips: Bring plenty of water, and a few snacks.

2. Carrowteige Beach Loop Walk
- Takes 1hr 30 mins

These loop walks show the beauty of the coast of Ireland and the colours in the cliffs are different depending on the sun and the shadows as well as the time of day. Between now and Christmas wear appropriate footwear such as waterproof hiking boots and warm clothes.
