lmao okay so kickball is essentially baseball (one person at a time tries to hit the ball to then run the bases until they come home for a point) but you’re kicking a large rubber ball instead of throwing a small baseball. you can also get tagged out by someone hitting you so the the ball. basically every elementary school kid learns how to play the game, and is a staple, but especially for my school because our playground only consisted of four (incredibly coveted) swings and a blacktop.

But my first game went really well!! Well — technically not well? I went to the wrong field and missed our first at bat and then in turn I didn’t get to meet most of my team during the game because we were playing (but they all seemed nice — though most of them have been playing together for years now). Also we lost 10-2 lmao BUT I got two kick attempts (caught for an out and then a grounded single) and I tagged an out on second (and almost caught a pop up at third).

BUT THEN. after we finished our short game (in the sun + 90-something degree weather) we all went to the local bar for socializing. I got a much better chance to meet my teammates who showed up and I really like them! We played a ton of bar games and I even was introduced to our ref who runs local dnd games and he said he’d probably bring me into a campaign!!!!

I thought I was going to be home by 8:30 at the latest (because anxiety and I thought I’d have to excuse myself lmao) but I ended up staying out until 10:30 😭 also my captain is a bit of a dick — mostly fine but still there were some 🤨 moments — but I kept one upping his jokes and puns so I think I earned his respect

tldr: I was very very nervous before the game, but everything ended up going really well and I’m excited for the rest of the season!!!

I finished reading The Luminous Dead last night and !!!!!!!! It was absolutely incredible. Helluva first book for Caitlin Starling. Also, first our wives under the sea and now luminous dead…. I am loooooving this horror, co-dependent but one of us is Stuck Somewhere and the other is Stuck Somewhere Else, vibe I’ve been diving into.
