Self-reminders today:
Resting is an important part of creating and doing.
There is more to resting than just sleeping.
Resting means letting yourself be idle of body and idle of mind.
Resting replenishes mental and physical strengths.
There is nothing virtuous about resisting rest.
There is nothing virtuous about working without rest.
Idleness and rest are not wrong or lazy.
Allowing yourself to rest enhances your creativity and allows you to do better work.
There is nothing about resting that should make you feel guilty.
You need rest.

Did ya'll know that many public libraries in the US offer free passes to local museums, botanical gardens, zoos, etc? Many of these passes allow for multiple visitors - i.e., sometimes one pass lets in two adults and up to four children!
If you can't find it on your city/county library system website, I suggest Googling "[city name] library" + "culture pass" or "discovery pass" or "museum pass". I've searched like 10 different cities across the US and they all had a program like this, so it's worth checking out.
It also looks like this is statewide for some places - For example, Illinois has a program where anyone with a library card can get into museums, cultural centers, aquariums, etc throughout the state.
SO if there's any local spots you've been wanting to check out, give it a shot! All you need is a library card. (Libraries generally require a home address, but if you don't have one, many libraries will accept shelter addresses and/or work with individuals on a case by case basis, so it's worth asking)
(And, semi-related, but many libraries also let you rent tools, craft supplies, musical instruments, etc. I've seen microscopes, sewing machines, drills, telescopes, hiking backpacks, guitars and more!)

people are constantly trying to deny disabled people the privilege of their own anger. we're forced into situations we don't want to be in have to rely on people or institutions we don't want to, have to constantly project the idea that we're thankful, hopeful, trying our best... it's ridiculous. when a disabled person is angry about something people flock to tell them that they shouldn't feel this emotion. "doctors are trying to help you", "be grateful you even have what you do", "you're the one making yourself miserable". at the end of the day it just goes to show that they don't think disabled people deserve even the meagre amount that we are given, so that's why they think we have no right to be angry

if youre considering using a mobility aid, youre probably thinking about getting a cane. even if it seems like youre issues arent bad enough, you should probably still consider other mobility aids. please look into the pros and cons of several different mobility aids, especially in conjunction with your specific disability/diagnosis/needs.
i got a cane at first because i thought my issues were "mild" and therefore i needed a "mild" mobility aid. but canes are moreso for stability than support. i damaged my wrist and worsened my scoliosis by deciding to use a cane without an educated opinion.
i now use forearm crutches primarily, a rollator for longer outings, and a wheelchair for worse days and longer events. dont make the same mistake as 16-year-old me. dont choose your mobility aid based on palatability, consider your needs and address your internalized ableism if need be.

I found an extremely dope disability survival guide for those who are homebound, bedbound, in need of disability accommodations, or would otherwise like resources for how to manage your life as a disabled person. (Link is safe)
It has some great articles and resources and while written by people with ME/CFS, it keeps all disabilities in mind. A lot of it is specific to the USA but even if you're from somewhere else, there are many guides that can still help you. Some really good ones are:
How to live a great disabled life- A guide full of resources to make your life easier and probably the best place to start (including links to some of the below resources). Everything from applying for good quality affordable housing to getting free transportation, affordable medication, how to get enough food stamps, how to get a free phone that doesn't suck, how to find housemates and caregivers, how to be homebound, support groups and Facebook pages (including for specific illnesses), how to help with social change from home, and so many more.
Turning a "no" into a "yes"- A guide on what to say when denied for disability aid/accommodations of many types, particularly over the phone. "Never take no for an answer over the phone. If you have not been turned down in writing, you have not been turned down. Period."
How to be poor in America- A very expansive and helpful guide including things from a directory to find your nearest food bank to resources for getting free home modifications, how to get cheap or free eye and dental care, extremely cheap internet, and financial assistance with vet bills
How to be homebound- This is pretty helpful even if you're not homebound. It includes guides on how to save spoons, getting free and low cost transportation, disability resources in your area, home meals, how to have fun/keep busy while in bed, and a severe bedbound activity master list which includes a link to an audio version of the list on Soundcloud
Master List of Disability Accommodation Letters For Housing- Guides on how to request accommodations and housing as well as your rights, laws, and prewritten sample letters to help you get whatever you need. Includes information on how to request additional bedrooms, stop evictions, request meetings via phone, mail, and email if you can't in person, what you can do if a request is denied, and many other helpful guides
Special Laws to Help Domestic Violence Survivors (Vouchers & Low Income Housing)- Protections, laws, and housing rights for survivors of DV (any gender), and how to get support and protection under the VAWA laws to help you and/or loved ones receive housing and assistance
Dealing With Debt & Disability- Information to assist with debt including student loans, medical debt, how to deal with debt collectors as well as an article with a step by step guide that helped the author cut her overwhelming medical bills by 80%!
There are so many more articles, guides, and tools here that have helped a lot of people. And there are a lot of rights, resources, and protections that people don't know they have and guides that can help you manage your life as a disabled person regardless of income, energy levels, and other factors.

a lot of the language used to describe disabled people's legal situation is so misleading... like, ok, "disabled people can't get married without losing our benefits" sounds like a non-issue to most outsiders
but "benefits" would be more accurately called "sole lifelong income"
"disabled people can't get married without losing our sole lifelong income" sounds a lot worse and like we're being intentionally funneled into abusive relationships, eh?
in my least charitable moments, i think a lot of the words chosen by non-disabled outsiders to describe us and our lives and legal situations are intentionally softening the reality of our situation, so it sounds less horrific than it actually is

anyway here's to disabled people who are not healing. disabled people who are not recovering, ever. people with disabilities that only get worse and worse over time. people who cannot access treatment for their disabilities or whose disabilities simply aren't treatable. people who know they'll only get more and more disabled as time goes on. people who know their disability will kill them sooner or later. you are seen, you are important, you are not dead weight, and you deserve support.

I've been in bed for weeks now since my back was hurt (I was attacked) so I haven't been able to make any progress on selling my art. I've been feeling pretty hopeless about everything, but I see a doctor on the 8th for it. I'm also seeking higher level pain management than my current clinic, but until I'm able to get in with them im on my own. If someone could sent me $20 for pain meds for this next week I would appreciate it. Thank you <3

if you have a chronic illness or disability i need you to hear this- this will be long.
you're allowed to feel sad/depressed/down, you're allowed to grieve your life and/or yourself, you're allowed to want it to be over.
you're allowed to have happy moments, you're allowed to enjoy your life and/or aspects of it, you're allowed to smile and just because you feel happy doesn't mean your pain is less.
good days are good and bad days are bad, and it's okay if you have no good days, and it's okay if you have mostly good days. it's okay if you're not diagnosed, it's okay if you are, and it's okay if you have lots of diagnoses. any of this doesn't make you any less valid.
no one gets to tell you that what you're feeling is not what you are feeling, just because you portray a picture of yourself to be something differently.
fuck being 'strong' and 'brave', you're surviving and every minute that you do is a minute of your life that's yours and only yours to choose how you live, don't let other's opinions on how they think a chronically ill/disabled person should live govern or influence your life. it's yours.

Having a traumatic childhood means you cannot talk even objectively about your basic foundational experiences without it being "venting", even if you're not actually venting. You just straight up have a huge chunk of your life you can't talk about, full stop, without it being trauma dumping.
And it not being socially acceptable to talk about your own childhood is super alienating. Sometimes people want to know why, and any answer you can give them is going to be off putting.
It's to the point I get irritated when something I said is framed as venting when I'm literally just talking about my life experiences, doing my best to keep emotion out of it.
