a few weeks ago I decided to visit a bunch of little free libraries. They’re all around the city and put up by anyone who wants to start and maintain one. Anyone is welcome to take a book or leave a book. I miss visiting the library and this seemed like a fun way to see a bunch and also explore the city. I found a map of them online and started biking to them. Getting to them in some cases would involve biking up and down hills, maybe a little bit of wandering and searching too. Going through noe valley, Dolores heights, corona heights, and Potrero was pretty intense. Once I found one, it was a good mix of what to expect in terms of how the maintainer curated them. And then I’d just look through the books and see what moves me. It’s a fun exercise is making space for impulse and intuition. As an exchange, I’d leave a copy of my book. I met a few of the librarians and they told me about how they got started with the libraries. Often they came as gifts - a friend built the library for them. First hat I made 🌟 I hand drafted a pattern based on 3 panel cycle caps. I’ve been wearing hats lately because they make it easier to wear my hair down. I love this kind of hat because I can wear it under my helmet when I ride, so I don’t have to bring a cap in my backpack. There’s a tie in the back to keep it tight. I used fabric leftover from shirts I was working on. What I loved most about making this was having a combination of prototyping, curiousity, playing, and also expertise from @wordforworld when I was wondering about how to make something work, carlee knew just what to do. Happy Juneteenth! I began the day learning more about the importance of today, and what I can do. Remember the history of Black Americans, celebrate Black achievement and celebrate Black joy. I made a resolution and I invite you to as well: what ongoing commitments can you make in service of Black liberation? Learning, donating, supporting, showing up. I put on my mask and went to a rally in downtown Oakland. This was my first rally. I learned, and I felt the energy and connection from organizing. Mom showed me how to draw when I was a kid and then joined today for a v special remote drawing party 💖 the theme was growth from care and affection & celebrating the people who have brought this in our lives, including mothers and mother-like figures in recognition of Mother’s Day. Mom reminded us of the great Mother Earth and picked one of the prompts to draw “earth, soil, dirt.
