🐣🍁🍇
thanks for asking! i wasn't sure I was gonna get any hits since I'm so inactive
A goal for your practice- to be more consistent/ have tangible things to pass down to my son as he grows
🍁 Something you miss about an older version of your practice- being so consistent/ intentional that I could sense/ talk to spirits around me regularly
🍇 An offering you're proud of- chores as offerings, especially to Frigg, it gets my butt up to do chores, and it keeps the house nice/ a connection to Frigg. I'm not super complicated when it comes to offerings.

An important lesson we can learn from plants, especially those considered "weeds", is that if a system does not work for you, grow around it.
Dandelions cannot thrive trapped under a concrete roof, so they twist and spread and sprout between the cracks.
Tree roots will find their way through foundations and bricks to feed the tree.
Brambles will climb up and over fences designed to keep them out, if what's beyond let's them grow.
A sunflower in a pot will face the sun, not the room it's owner so desperately wants it to decorate.
Do what you need to do to thrive, irregardless of what others think you should do.

Okay, my fake sockcourse post has too many genuine reblogs on it, so here are some actual spirit work/cemetery-related superstitions I have and practices I do:
I never go anywhere without a head covering. I generally consider it veiling, though I'm usually in either a beanie or a baseball cap. It keeps a no-effort barrier up to keep me from hearing spirits when I don't want to be hearing them.
Anytime I visit a new cemetery, I bring a variety of options for offerings to leave at the gate: coins, bird seed, peanuts, handwritten notes, pretty stones, etc. Not all cemetery guardians want the same thing, so it's good to have options. They tend to appreciate getting to pick out their own goodies.
When making offerings, I try to have one thing representing each element (earth, air, water, fire). Again, options.
Sitting quietly in an appropriate place is a significantly more effective method of getting a spirit's attention than performing some grand ritual.
If I have to cross a bridge in a cemetery for any reason, I hold my breath. If I have to go under a bridge, I set my hand atop my head until I'm out the other side.
If I walk or drive by a cemetery, I remain silent until I've passed by out of respect for the resting dead. It'd piss me off if some guy went by chattering away while I'm trying to sleep.
Within the confines of a cemetery, graveyard, or other place sacred to the dead, I keep my voice low at all times and stay as silent as possible. Similar reasons as the above, but also so that I can hear and feel more clearly. You can't listen if you're talking, you know?
I always ask permission before bringing divinatory tools, magical items, or ritual supplies into any place where the dead have been buried. I ask again before starting anything, since permission to bring something in isn't always permission to perform an action.
Aaaaaand a whole bunch of other stuff.

If you have read about fascism and tyranny or watched cable news, you have probably seen Professor Timothy Snyder, who has been warning about Trump and tyranny for a few years now.
Snyder’s book On Tyranny is one of the go-to modern works for people who want to understand tyranny and how to fight it, so what Professor Snyder posted on his X account on Saturday merits attention.
Snyder posted:
Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. Nervous Musk, Trump, Vance have all been outclassed in public arguments these last few days. Government failure, stock market crash, and dictatorial alliances are not popular. People are starting to realize that there is no truth here beyond the desire for personal wealth and power.
Professor Snyder’s perception is backed up by a mountain of polling that shows the country turning against Donald Trump in increasing numbers. If polling isn’t convincing, consider the large and growing number of almost daily protests directed at what Trump and Musk are doing.
There are also results. When the public gets angry and speaks out, the Trump administration has caved.
Actual fascists don’t allow their opposition to speak out. A real authoritarian doesn’t cave. When pressure is applied to the Trump administration, it breaks. The reason why it breaks is successful authoritarian movements have a majority of the population behind them.
Trump’s support is sinking like a stone.
None of this means that the country is out of the woods yet. As Professor Snyder wrote, Trump and his billionaires are going to try and try again, which means that it is going to take constant resistance from the American people to defeat them.
Things will get much easier for pro-democracy Americans if Democrats win control of the House in special elections this year or next year's midterm election.
Until then, it will be a grassroots battle.
The good news is that Trump is losing, and so far, Americans are fighting for their democracy.

Just a psa for fic writers who use the “trauma bond” tag, please make sure you’re using it correctly. A trauma bond is not two people who experience similar trauma and bond over it. It’s a carefully curated, manipulative bond between abuser and victim to keep the victim coming back because of the addictive highs and lows that come with abuse.

If you want to tag two characters bonding over shared trauma, a good substitute tag would be “bonding over shared trauma.” Trauma bonding is, by definition, an abusive relationship and may steer people who have experienced it away from your fic. Please spread the word and happy writing!

You just have to be good at one thing.
Hear me out. This is just an example, but let's just say the one thing I can actually do really well on a magical level is dig a ditch.
It's a super earthy activity. It makes sense to me. Earth stuff just works well for me. The technique I've found to do this magically is really fulfilling to me - maybe I draw lines in trays of salt, or go outside and dig with a trowel. And it works for me.
When I magically dig a ditch, magical ditches are dug.
Someone wants a friendship spell? I dig a friend-shaped ditch around them that friends fall into.
Someone wants money? I dig a sloping ditch that leads from Money to their bank account.
Someone wants protection? I dig a ditch and use that as a foundational barrier, like a moat.
Other stuff might not work. Maybe I can't really raise up a wall. Maybe when I try to work magic with the conceptual energies of money and prosperity in a candle spell, it just fizzles out and falls flat. Maybe I can't conjure a spirit road for shit, unless I'm digging a lazy river for the spirits to float down on.
I enjoy casting a wide net and doing many magical experiments, but lately I've been leaning into magic that just works really well for me. And what I've realized is that I end up doing the same things, over and over again.
Maybe all I can do magically is tie a knot. Maybe all I can do is break a stick. It kind of feels like cheating, like mashing a combo move you know will win every time. Simultaneously, it makes me feel like I'm not as well-rounded as I thought I was. All I'm doing over here is digging ditches.
Anyway, I just wanted to say ~ I think an important avenue of exploration is finding any little thing you can reliably do, and going full hog. After all, life as we know it would collapse without ditches.

Beloved Sigyn, steadfast goddess,
Keeper of patience and quiet strength,
You who endured with grace amidst sorrow,
I call upon you now in these turbulent times.
Guide me with your unwavering resolve,
That I may stand firm in my values and purpose.
Teach me the art of quiet perseverance,
To hold steady when chaos threatens to overwhelm.
Shield my heart from the venom of despair,
As you shielded your love with boundless devotion.
Help me act with wisdom and compassion,
So that I may be a protector for others in need.
Bless me with your calm presence,
That I may find peace in the storm,
And courage to endure until brighter days come.
In gratitude and respect, I honor your name,
Sigyn, goddess of devotion and strength.
Stay with me now and always.
