A Modern Man in a Kilt
Hey everyone! Bear here, the big kilted man himself. I got a cool one for ya today.
Whenever people interact with me about my kilt a big concern that I hear is where they can put stuff, pocket spacing, etc. So, I decided that this post is solely dedicated to how I solved that problem.
Now, my kilt is from Versatta, a company that makes easy to wear, easy to style kilts. The standard kilt comes with D-Rings, let's loops, and 2 cargo pouches that can be removed for washing. This by itself is really all you need. The pockets work fine, and they are pretty big, but if you're like me, you need to carry a little more than just a phone, Keys, and a wallet.
That's where getting tactical comes into play.
I have been a guy who loves tactical gear for years. I worked private security, played airsoft, first responder, and overall just want to be at a level of readiness to defend myself, my fiancé, and the people around me.
That being said...
-----------CONTENT WARNING AHEAD----------
If you do not like to see guns, firearms, knives, narcan, or any of these things combined, please move on.
That out of the way, time for my edc.
Tumblr media
So, what you are seeing is what I use to carry things every day. Let's start with the first one, and the one I can explain the easiest.
Tumblr media
This is my handgun, Glock 17 Gen 5 with Red Dot and Mounted light. I keep it in a JX Tactical "Fat Guy" Holster as well as a spare mag in just a generic flap pouch. Simple enough.
Now to something more meaty.
Tumblr media
This is my electronics pouch. It keeps a pen with a write in the rain pad, a key, a 50000mah battery bank, and a cable for my phone. Obviously, my phone is not in it, but it keeps it nice and snug and safe.
Let go to something more decorative.
Tumblr media
This chain is actually salvaged from an old Spencer's wallet. The charms are Ein (dog) from Cowboy Beebop, and the little guy is a charm my fiancé got me of Heavy from TF2. (I love him)
Now to the big boy!
Tumblr media
I apologize for the image quality. My phone is kind crap. But this is my general carry pouch.
Starting from the top, we have my wallet, work badge, and 2 challenge coins (Halo Spartan Coin and Cumberland Caverns Coin), a Gerber multitool, mini Flashlight, Gerber knife I call "Mr. Wick", a zippo lighter and bic lighter, a cigar puncher (just in case), and 1 dose of Narcan.
On top of all that, the pouch has a velcro section to allow patches. I currently run a bear, and whatever else I feel.
All of this goes on my belt and doesn't really cost all that much for the pouches. Plus, with this system, I can be just as effective with a kilt as I would cargo pants. And they can all come off Amazon for less than $100.
Now, this isn't a "Do it this way or die" thing. This is just how I do it. Your milage and needs may vary, but I do hope this helps you with direction in designing it.

A Modern Man in a Kilt
Well, howdy there ya'll. It's been a while, huh? Well, I can't really give a good excuse as to my "daily" posts falling off, but to be fair, my life has been pretty boring up until this weekend.
But! I have a post.
Not only that, I have 2 posts! One will be coming out in the morning, and the next one will be available this afternoon.
But enough of that, let's get into it.
First things first, I've had a hell of a week and end of the week. Work has been steadily getting more busy, and because last week I was struggling for work hours, I had to try and sneak in as many hours as I could to hit 40 hours. The big thing, though, was that one bar in town decided that they were gonna have a Trans Pride event. I shared this with my fiancé and we immediately decided to go. It was on a Friday night after we were both off work as well, so hell yeah! Friday rolls around, and we get into the party early with excellent front door parking. My fiancé being the ever so generous Trans man , he decided that it was time to do some pin exchanges and give one to the bouncer who was a gorgeous Trans femme who got emotional and hugged us both. (Below is us in our fits)
Tumblr media
After getting to the venue, we then learned that there were gonna be drag queens and a drag show, the first one I ever got to witness. The night was nothing but fun meeting all different kinds of people, including a Trans Femme Mama Bear (I gave her one of my pins, and we got a big hug) an otter (bear but smol) tons of Trans people that were so lovely, gorgeous, and handsome, and my bear appearal was gaining attention and giving plenty of hugs to people who needed them. I also had people want to take pictures of me, so I even got to be a big goofy bear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All in all, the night was a blast. The music was great, the people were amazing, we made friends with just about everyone we met, and I got to share and experience so much with people. As for kilt wearing, we [Me and Fiancé] are apparently well known for wearing kilts at that bar, so hey, it looks like ya bear got some clout at the Queer Dive Bar!
Anyways. It was a great night. The weekend led to tons more fun with people complimenting the kilt and even people who had never seen one asking about it. Honestly, I'm so glad I started doing this, and I really want to keep doing it for as long as I can.
That's gonna be all for this one, but stay tuned because I'll have another one here posted during my lunch time.
See ya'll at lunch!

A Modern Man in a Kilt
Day 6 (June 1st, 2025)
Hello and Happy Pride Month all. It's the bear that wears a kilt. I apologize for how late this post is gonna be coming out, but I have decided to start posting these the day after for the sake of ease.
As you may have guessed, it's Pride Month, and with this time of year comes time for celebration of being ones true self, unafraid and unhindered by the world to truly be who you are. Now, despite the growing political concerns we face in today's world against the LGBTQ community (and sadly, it seems a lot of our shared freedoms as human beings), this is no time to stop trying to express ourselves through love and understanding. With all that being said, I'm pleased to report that there are no major stories to tell about wearing a kilt around in public. Plus, my fiancé got to wear his today, too!
I hope that these posts are reaching people and, at the very least, if you are reading this and find any inspiration to try something new and/or express yourself in a way, please do not be afraid to ve yourself.
On a non-kilt-related note, I'm working with my fiancé to make a Bear Pride Denim vest and hopefully will be posting about that process soon alongside these stories, or in them idk.
Anyway, folks, take care and I will see you all tomorrow!

A Modern Man in a Kilt
Day 5
Apologies for the late post but since this had some last minute use story time added on, this will be coming out the day after. Regardless I had some interesting notes to make about today and i' glad I caught it because surprisingly, the right place usually has the right people for these sorts of things.
In the town I live in, we have a section of the city that is very queer based and queer friendly. Me and Duncan rolled up after he got off work, and we got to be in a club atmosphere with kilts on. Duncan was also wearing his kilt and according to him a co worker of his stood up for him when bitchy manager called it a skirt. Duncan has felt it so kind that he is gonna be giving this person his og pride kilt so hell yeah!
Honestly, it's been an interesting week wearing this so far. It feels so liberating and comfortable that, honestly, it may be my go-to even after this little experiment. Hell, using the toilet is simple as well. Litterally giving me the ability to have my edc on my hip and ready for an emergency. I' honestly excited to see what happens next with this, and yes, I am still working on getting a tacti-kilt as well.
Anyways. That's all I got, keeping it short and sweet. I will see you all tomorrow!

A Modern Man in a Kilt
Day 4.
Hoo-wee was today something. Unfortunately I was unable to go to the gun store, but I did have a very interesting conversation with some people at work about my kilt.
Before that though, my darling fiancé washed my red kilt for me, and I was able to wear it today. Now I know what you're thinking "why is that a big deal?" Well I'll tell ya, it's because you can't wash these in the washing machine. You basically have to use a washboard and a bath tub with detergent to wash these things. And my Fiancé took time out of his day off to clean my kilt. So to him, my love, thank you.
On to the day. I got dressed up, Hawaiian shirt and kilt on, pouches, shoes, and beard tyled and ready and made my way to work. I made way in, did my stuff and since today was scuffed schedule wise I decided to make it sweet by going to the gas station a little further down the road to get a little Ice cream. While I was there an older gentleman walked by with a grin and greeted me to which he quickly walked away when I hit him with my deep "Howdy" which was a sight to see.
After getting my food and getting back to the warehouse I was approached by a woman that works with me who asked why I was wearing a kilt and asked if I was harassed about it. I told her about my reasoning, (listed in day 1) and said that I have nothing to be embarrassed about here because most people don't pay attention to their surroundings because they're too busy in their own worlds. And that got me thinking about it.
So many people are so worried about what other people think that they forget that often times, we are just a back drop to their own story. It may be cheesy or corny to say but everyone has their own lives and problems going on. Some people, just don't have time to pay attention. And those that do are either trying to find something interesting to be a part of, find people to interact or keep away from, and very rarely do we see people actively trying to belittle someone for what they see.
Don't get me wrong, I very much am not the kind of person to say "Put yourself out there no matter what" I find anonymity to be just as important as popularity.
As for the rest of the day, nothing too eventful was going on, and unfortunately, I will have to postpone the gun store trip. But, I am going grocery shopping this weekend, so I will make sure to let ya'll know what's going on.
And on that note, have a goodnight everyone, see ya tomorrow!

A Modern Man in a Kilt
Day 3
Another day another kilt wearing adventure. This time I'm wearing my black kilt. Same company, just all black and slightly shorter. It's less specialized than red kilt for my big and tall self but it still works. Very comfortable, very durable, and very much a nice quality kilt. Same edc belt and pouch combo as well to keep up my regular carry capacity. I do also plan on getting another kilt from a different company, but I need to be less broke so... yeah. That kilt will be a put more traditional but I intend for it to have a camo pattern for tacti-kilt action at a MAXIMUM.
General perception was average. Some people saw it and liked it. Some people saw it and were unimpressed, and I got a very interesting point of view on it from my co worker, who said he would love to own one but would be too self conscious to wear it out in public. It got me thinking about the general perception of it all. So many different people would love to try certain things but fear of the perception of others can be crippling to the ambition of curiosity. That last sentence will probably be the smartest thing I say for a long time, haha. Comfort wise I still have a great time wearing it. Though the opinion of getting better undergarments is probably gonna be more necessary. Hopefully this weekend will help with that when I cam actually get out and buy stuff.
Speaking of which, day 4 aka tomorrow, I will be going outside of work environments even more when I take my fiancé to the doctor and go to a gun store to buy ammo. Stay tuned for that one because Hoh-Boy is it gonna be a good one. Also, I decided to include a pic of me wearing my red kilt in this post as a sort of context to what I'm talking about.
Tumblr media
But other than that, that's all I really got. Sorry about it being so short, but since not too much happened, I kinda don't have much to write. Anyhow, see ya'll tomorrow!

A Modern Man in a Kilt
Day 2.
It is Day 2 today and it has started early and casually. As i was getting out for today, some yard workers gave me some rather interesting and unimpressed looks. I laughed to myself a little wondering if maybe they were confused or severely concerned. Either way, it's not my concern with what they think.
As tragedy struck yesterday while I was at work, the chain I was wearing with the kilt got caught on something and broke. I will have to order a new one eventually but for now it is removed. Instead I have added 2 new pouches. A tech pouch that store both my phone, cigs, work badge, and battery bank to charge my phone. I had to make an impromptu modification to make it fit, but it works (sorry D if you see this, I'll buy you a new one).
I also equipped a Zippo Lighter pouch as well. It just holds my lighter but it works for what I need. I have been considering getting a fanny pack to wear in front, or get a traditional pouch to hang there, but it may not be good for the work environment. Either way, comfort and ease is still here and I am able to move around freely. I have also thought about adding a rear pouch for dumping things. We shall see. For now though. I have most everything I need on my hips ready to go.
Comfort is surprisingly consistent, air flows freely and honestly it's nice to not have to be baking in something like jeans or even shorts. I did have one minor mishap that was quite hilarious. I had attempted to walk over a fan to cool myself a little bit and a gust blew a bit harder than I was expecting and well... let's just say I'm glad I have a good relationship with my coworkers and that I was wearing a clean pair of boxers.
On the topic of undergarments, I may actually look into longer under garments as my larger than average thighs were rubbing against each other very frequently. Not enough ti cause severe pain or damage, but enough to be noticeable. Bathroom usage was also much easier, though I have not attempted to sit on a toilet yet, so we shall see what happens. Tomorrow, I will be wearing my black kilt, same belt setup, of course, but with a little less length and a casual top. We shall see what happens, but I have the expectation of similar responses to today. Anyway, I'll see ya'll tomorrow!

A Modern Man in a Kilt
Hello, My name is Bear. And I am (at the time of writing this) wearing a kilt. Now I know that it seems random, but it has a purpose.
I (27M) have a wonderful husband (28M) who lives wearing kilts. Now, with him being Trans FTM, I felt this is a good way for him to express himself. However, it came with a consequence I was not ready for. My husband works at a hardware store, and he is constantly harassed by people. Every time he wears his kilt, people refer to it as a skirt. My husband is very much not feminine looking, all be it Fruity and shorty, he is not feminine. And every time he wears his kilt, I hear how people call it a skirt. It breaks my heart to hear how he just wants to enjoy this.
So, I'm doing something about it.
I myself own 2 kilts. A burgundy red one and a black one. I was initially scared to wear them out in public because I was afraid of how I would be perceived. But that changes today. Today I start my journey to empower men, ALL MEN, Cis, Transitioning, etc, to never be afraid of who they are and what they like. And I'm doing so by wearing my kilts everyday.
I will be wearing 2 different kinds of kilts as well as hopefully soon getting some more to wear like camo ones and accessories to match.
I'm choosing to do this because I am tired of living in a fear and anxiety based mindset and hearing how Transfolks are harassed every day for existing. I intend to help the one way I know how. Being the big motherf-cker that ain't afraid of standing up to people who are assholes.
So follow along and watch me go places in my town as a Kilted Bear of a man.
Day 1. May 27th, 2025
To preface this, I am a 6ft tall CIS white male. Big beard, long-ish hair, broad shoulders, the classic signs of a big dude.
What I am wearing is a Kilt from Versatta. It's not a traditional kilt, but it is quite nice. To pair with it, I have a Retro Rifle Hawaiian Shirt. It looks good, feels good, and matches it perfectly. As well as generic belt with my EDC admin pouch which has space for velcro patches. The pouch has room for my wallet, phone, keys, multitool, work blade, notepad, pen, and space for some more stuff if needed. The kilt itself has pockets on the side, but I opted for the pouch on my belt just for sake of ease and security. I'm also wearing a pair of PT shoes, but that's just for work.
Today is my first day back at work from Memorial Day weekend and first day wearing the kilt. It's been a pretty busy day so far, but already, I can feel some good vibes coming from it. Most people didn't make any comments at the gas station, not many at work either. Some people did ask, but most of it was just smiles, some jokes that weren't about me, and some praise. I told my main two co-workers why i'm wearing this, and the younger (we will call J) said he had interest in one. The biggest change I noticed was that when I walked directly into work, I was nervous and a little avoidant. But as I got into it, I came into my own. I have a reason, support for my love and comfort for me. Day ended rather uneventfully, so now we just wait for tomorrow. I'll see ya'll then!

Not even gonna lie. It's like people forgot that disagreement isn't being against you. People are leaning too far into the idea that anyone not 100% with you is 100% against you. It makes no sense!
Why's it always the "people are too easily offended, grow a thicker skin snowflakes" types that get supremely volcanically upset when you mildly disagree with them
Like I know why but it's like tragicomically predictable at this point

I saw Ben Bigger, and from the moment I started this chapter, I knew it was gonna be amazing. Then Ben is just a wholesome Gentle Giant, and it made the character so much better, in my opinion. And he breaks the stigma of a big dumb strong guy.
man built like a fucking wall but still so adorable. I'm in love with this bear
