Port On Call The toast. We all do it. Whether it be at weddings, birthday celebrations or just your regular Monday at the bar, clinking glasses in acknowledgment of those around you or those far away is a time honoured tradition of every drinker and non-drinker alike. Hell, I do it at the end of every post. I've heard some crazy toasts in my day, and I've admittedly said some wild stuff as well. I'm pretty certain some toasts were said last night, in both victory and defeat. Anyway... What are your favourite toasts? Sound off in the comments below so I can have something clever to say next time I raise a glass. #Cheers. - Peat #WhiskyArch.

There isn't much that needs to be said about Mondays. We've seen all the memes, know all the cliches, been depressed and excited at the same damn time. Well, one of the joys of Mondays is discovering something new. And that's just what I did. While scouring the interwebs (because I'm in an "interwebs" kinda mood), I stumbled upon photographer and post-production artist Stephen MacLeod. What really caught my eye was his image of the all too famous @johnniewalker, a staple in many a household. I've already lamented on how I grew up on this, so no need to rehash old stories, but we can always re-pour familiar drams. I love it when whisky and design comes together. #Cheers to JWMondays! - Peat #WhiskyArch.

Russet Residence by @splycedesign From the architect: This project is located in West Vancouver on a steep site with mature cedar and douglas fir to the west and an ocean view to the south. The house responds to these conditions by nestling itself into the hill while also projecting out over it to maximize views and connectivity to the landscape. Due to its proximity to the rugged and sloping creekside bank to the west, the house was subject to strict environmental and geotechnical conditions, including a required setback from the top of the bank that pushed the building’s foundation eastwards. The resultant footprint was awkwardly narrow, so to gain back valuable space, a portion of the main and upper floor is cantilevered back out past the foundation, allowing the native creekside vegetation to grow up, under and around as an uninterrupted, wild, forest floor. This reclamation of space is clearly pronounced in the dining room, where it projects out fifteen feet unsupported. By eliminating window frames and extending the glazing panels on all three sides of the room, past the floor and ceiling planes, the space dissolves into the adjacent forest canopy and provides framed views though to the ocean beyond. #WhiskyArch. As the first week of 2017 draws to an end, I figured it's finally time to put to rest those who have brought me such joy in the past. Yea, I should've paid my respect at the close of 2016, but hey, I'm different. Yea I'm different. On a serious note, not wanting to be a hoarder, I realised I really had to get rid of some empty bottles. Maybe I need to send some to @scotch_trooper to finally get me a lamp? Maybe. Regardless, as I was clearing up the empty bottles, figured I would snap a pic of some of the 12 Year Olds that I've enjoyed thoroughly. Which bottles are running low in your collection? #Cheers. - Peat #WhiskyArch.

It's been a long time (long time). I shouldn't have left you (left you). Without a dope dram to sip to. I'm pretty sure those were the original lyrics to Aaliyah's hit. Anyway... So yea, I'm back in DC and while I was prepping myself for the day I had to get some essentials together. Namely some socks, courtesy @the_macallan, time piece by @mvmtwatches and some @usmacallan whisky, duh. Afterall, when starting humpday, you gotta start in style. Also, clearly my lil homie in the background wanted to be in on the action. Considering his name is Macallan (I'm serious), it only makes sense. #Cheers. - Peat #WhiskyArch.

Today is November 8th. Which means, today America decides how the next 4 years... scratch that... it's future in general is going to be. Frankly, this entire election season, leading up today has been cause for many persons to take to the bar. Myself included. And I can't even vote thanks to my lack of citizenship. That's right, I've been in this country stealing good seats at the bar that belong to hard working Americans! But I'm always willing to share, so that counts for something, right? Anyway, I can't tell you how to vote, but I can say you damn well better. In the meantime I'll be pouring up some Booker's Rye. That's right, rye. First WhistlePig now Booker's. This election is gonna make me a rye fan yet. Cheers! And have a fine #TipsyTuesday. - Peat #WhiskyArch. (at Hard Water)

Cheers to the freaking weekend! I'll drink to that! A couple weeks ago Whisky + Arch was asked to host a whisk(e)y tasting. Considering who was making the request, I couldn't turn it down. So, I offered up a fairly wide range for the evening: one American, one Irish and one Scotch. Figured it would create a nice balance. You may disagree, but to each his/her own. Now, as the lot of you may know, we have always had the stance that for those new to drinking whiskey, whatever you taste, you taste, and that's exactly what we stressed during this event which turned out be absolutely fantastic. Huge shout out to @thexmgroup for capturing this shot. #Cheers. - Peat #WhiskyArch.

Now let me welcome everybody to the wild, wild west, a state that's untouchable like Elliot Ness. The track hits ya eardrum like a slug to ya chest so pack a vest for your Jimmy in the city of sex. I'm in that sunshine state where that bomb ass hemp be. The state where ya never find a dance floor empty. And pimps be on a mission for them greens; lean mean money-makin-machines servin fiends. In case you haven't seen our instagram stories, nor it wasn't obvious enough, I'm in Cali! The bay area to be exact. Outside this schizophrenic weather, I've honestly been enjoying it a hellova lot. This past weekend, thanks to some suggestions by some friends here on the gram, I stopped by @hardwatersf and boy was it worth it! Their flight selections are ridiculous! Here I was able to have the @jimbeamofficial flight with the beautiful Booker's 25 Anniversary as the final offering. This place came highly recommended and now I'm doing the same. Go here. #Cheers. - Peat #WhiskyArch. (at Hard Water)

So I woke up this morning, smiling with the rising sun. And lo and behold, three little birds were pitched by my doorstep. They were singing such sweet songs. Songs with melodies pure and true. It felt like they were saying "this is my message to you." What were they saying? They were singing "don't worry about a thing. Cause it's Friday and every little thing, is gonna be alright." Thoughts and prayers go out to all being affected by Hurricane Matthew, as well as all the other travesties in the world. We'll pour one in your honour. #Cheers. - Peat #WhiskyArch.

See, there were these two guys in a lunatic asylum... and one night, one night they decide they don't like living in an asylum any more. They decide they're going to escape! So, like, they get up onto the roof, and there, just across this narrow gap, they see the rooftops of the town, stretching away in the moon light... stretching away to freedom. Now, the first guy, he jumps right across with no problem. But his friend, his friend didn't dare make the leap. Y'see... Y'see, he's afraid of falling. So then, the first guy has an idea... He says "Hey! I have my flashlight with me! I'll shine it across the gap between the buildings. You can walk along the beam and join me!" B-but the second guy just shakes his head. He suh-says... He says "Wh-what do you think I am? Crazy? You'd turn it off when I was half way across! When it comes to comic book lore, it doesn't get much better than Alan Moore's The Killing Joke. So it's only right that I appreciate this amazing graphic novel with an equally amazing dram. One lore for another. Happy #TipsyTuesday! #Cheers. - Peat #WhiskyArch. (at Columbia Heights)

So it's been about a week since my trip to @whistlepigwhiskey in Vermont and still the wonderful memories linger. Raj and the rest of the WhistlePig team through quite the event. I mean, there are parties and then there are celebrations. Anyone can throw a party, but a celebration - a true celebration - that's reserved for something special. Something epic. It's my humble opinion that WhistlePig used the wrong semantics to describe this occasion. After this experience, I've grown to respect the hell out of WhistlePig and will gladly consider myself an advocate in the hopes that one day, if you don't already, you do too. I highly encourage you to check out our website for my full experience at the farm, with pictures galore. Happy #ThirstyThursday! #Cheers. - Peat #WhiskyArch. (at WhistlePig Farm)

Aedas designs Chongqing Xinhua Bookstore Group Jiefangbei Book City Mixed-use Project The Chongqing Xinhua Bookstore project is a dynamic, mixed-use development that encompasses civic plaza, cultural venue, retail, residences, offices and a boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Chongqing. The design of the property was inspired by an ancient Chinese prose 'A Mountain City Embraces Books (书卷缱绻掩山城)'. The facade of the building slowly unfolds to reveal the steeping terraces which not only echo Chongqing's secondary name of 'Mountain City', but also share similar spatial experience of the streets in Chongqing. The raised volume of the Xinhua Bookstore floats above the street level, echoing a spirit of faith and knowledge. #WhiskyArch. (at Chongqing, China)

Danjiang Bridge by Zaha Hadid Architects The Danjiang Bridge will be the world’s longest single-tower, asymmetric cable-stayed bridge. The mast is designed and engineered to be as slender as possible and positioned to offer the best structural performance, avoid impeding the navigability of the river and also minimize any interference with the views of the sunset from popular viewing points along the river. This single-mast design also minimizes structural elements in the riverbed in accordance with the increased protection programs of the estuary’s ecosystems. #WhiskyArch. (at Danjiang, Hunan, China)
