I think it’s brave.
- Poem by Lana Rafaela.
====
My heart was just struck by how perfect a poem it was to describe Jiang Cheng, who has lost so much, but still continues to push through each day. He is so brave, and he deserves the best things.

Maedhros and Maglor treated Elrond and Elros surprisingly kindly, raising them as princes rather than confining them as prisoners.
But they were raised as Noldorin princes first and foremost - not Sindarin princes, or mannish chief’s sons, or maiar gaining knowledge of the world.
This wasn’t malicious on Maedhros and Maglor’s part, or even truly deliberate. The brothers knew how they had been raised, and how their little brothers and cousins and nephews grew up, so that’s how they raised Elrond and Elros.
So the twins education covers everything they’d need to be the prize of Tirion or Ethel Sirion. They are taught history, from when Orome first met the elves at Cuivienen, through the Sundering of the Elves and their arrival in Valinor, the founding Of Tirion and Valmar, and so on. How new inventions are created out of the blend of necessity and opportunity, and the technological developments that led from early clay pots all the way to indoor plumbing.
They are taught proper behavior. What argument styles are reasonable to use in a debate and what are logically unsound or will get you laughed out of the council. How to comport themselves at a formal dinner, and who gets precedence in seating and how to notice if someone has lost the host’s favor.
They are taught to read and write. It’s all the fluid strokes of Tengwar, but both Sindarin and Quenya are practical to know. They learn to draw as well, accurate technical studies that could be used to reproduce an item as well as quick pencil sketches to capture
They are taught to sing. Songs for great stone halls and solemn occasions. Songs for harvest festivals in the endless day of Tirion, or in the bright summer of Lothlann. Songs celebrating the birth of a long-awaited elven child, and songs mourning the death of a friend who may not be seen again for centuries.
They are taught to ride fierce tall horses and never fall. They are taught to fight with sword and shield and spear, clad in gleaming mail. They are taught to appraise metals and gems, and forge them into intricate crowns. They are taught to hunt, to weave, to tend wounds, to cook.
Maedhros and Maglor try to include other aspects of the twins heritage; it wouldn’t do for the boys to be ignorant of anything they need. So there’s timelines of Sindarin history, with Elwe being lost between these years and the Falas being founded in this one, and of Mannish history, with Beleriand being reached on this date and the various tribes having established territories by a later date.
The Sindar know their history by song and theme, and the men by hero and tale, but the Feanorians never think to teach it that way.

Feanor hugs his wife. He’s fearless but not here- his fiery heart worries that she can fade away like Miriel. But everything’s fine. Nerdanel laughs, makes her husband and Maitimo smile, by telling how she chose the name for her future son. Warm family order for Myn Donos =)
