I think i chose the wrong wording my fault. I mean for azzi for have her own light if that makes sense. We can all say that all eyes will be on Paige this year. We all say how much azzi is in Paige’s shadow or at least I feel like she is. Granted she is in recovery what can she really do but I feel like she has always been in her shadow. In units there is always one that outshines another in this case Paige outshines azzi. I would just love her to prosper herself as an individual first not seen as an extension I love the p and a unit they work well together. But we cannot or at least can’t deny that everyone is in Paige’s shadow on the UConn team. I’m not blaming Paige for that tho It makes sense , her fame has increased and of course the #1 draft pick will be talked about the most . Granted all the stuff I could be saying could hold no value because maybe azzi doesn’t want any of that. It’s just my personal opinion.
i personally dislike the idea that azzi is stuck in paige’s shadow but i get it paige is basically the face of the team. i think that’s partially why she’s so hesitant to take over games because she wants everyone involved as much as possible. also along with being an amazing player, paige is very visible. she’s active on social media, outgoing, likes going to events and meeting people etc. azzi may not be that way. she might prefer the privacy and being selective on events that she goes to.
however i believe azzi has potential to shine while playing on the team with paige. i genuinely do think they complement each other’s game but there are external influences that sometimes hinders them being viewed as individuals.
like you said at the end of the day we don’t really know what she wants or what she really cares about fr. whether she stays another season at uconn or plays in the W she’ll be recognized as her own person more.

Some of your anons are on crack
fr 😭 don’t make any sense. comparing nika and azzi for one. then saying azzi isn’t close with the team. she would only leaving because paige is leaving yeah it’s too much

the last anon whaa? why would she be benched or waived like I don’t think you can compare her and Nika..pls
+ she is close to the team! she’s just not always on social media but you can tell she’s close to the team as well, she’s of course closer to P but that doesn’t mean she’ll leave?? Listen I love the duo and they’ll eventually reunite (my agenda) but some of you say things that undermines that Azzi herself is a great talent??!
right!! like they are not the same we can end that conversation.
i definitely agree like i don’t think they realize that their comments diminishes her talent and that she has a mind of her own i mean this in the nicest way possible but not everything is about paige

Azzi has expressed how much she loves the team in general despite Lou and Inez leaving. Azzi cannot be hooked on Paige forever now. She has to gain some independence her staying would have her gain a bigger voice and leadership. I don’t think Paige should or will be a component. Cuz they are going to separate teams they won’t be together and will be separated.
i understand that they are close but i wish fans would stop grouping paige and azzi like they share one brain and can’t do anything without each other. they are two individuals. how is azzi not independent now? why can’t she be a leader this season? i’ve seen so many fans project this idea of what they expect azzi to be and what they think she should do when i don’t think she’s expressed half of the things fans want from her
i’m sure she’ll go through all of the possibilities and talk with her family and make a decision best for her.

Azzi needs a proper healthy off season before going to the draft because I don’t think she is physically ready for the W after 1 season back and she could end up benched/waived. If she leaves I strongly believe it’s because she doesn’t want to be there without Paige and she’s not close with the team. She should know what’s best for her though. Hope she makes the right decision and has a healthy season.
whether azzi stays or declares i see risks and benefits to both. if nika didn’t get waived then azzi should be more than ok lol the W is an adjustment for everyone and all rookies have to work their way up. if she declares i think she’ll be fine.
it does seem like her closest friends have left (lou & ines) but i think she’s still close enough with the team to stay. if she decides to leave i don’t believe paige is a factor in her decision at all.

honestly, the main thing for me is Azzi getting to experience as much of college basketball as possible. like yes ofc, pros is always the goal and if she is ready for that next level, then i'm definitely not opposed to her declaring.
but she's only played 42 games - barely any of them while she was fully healthy. even after a full season this coming season, she'd still have under 100 games of college experience when most women's players enter the draft with over 100 games of college experience. and while i believe azzi doesn't need more than 100 games to prove her talent, i just think it's more beneficial for her (and for anyone, for that matter). on top of that, she'll get to truly assume the leadership role in 2025-26 after paige and aubrey leave and honestly, i think that would be extremely valuable for her.
the pros is always gonna be there for Azzi, but college basketball isn't, and just like Paige, Azzi deserves to experience as much of uconn basketball as she can, while she can.
i also disagree that Azzi's really had a fully healthy offseason; to be incredibly honest, I don't think she's had a fully healthy offseason since freshman year given her ankle/knee injuries freshman year, knee injures sophomore year, and now her ACL.
at the end of the day, Azzi knows what's best and i'm sure she'll make whatever decision feels right for her BUT i truly would be surprised if she didn't stay one more year.
i definitely understand the reasoning on why people want her to stay i’m not opposed to her staying. imo there are risks on both sides of staying or declaring. her goal is to get to the wnba, she’s almost guaranteed a first round pick, and if she has a great season then i see no issue with it regardless of how many games she’s played.
azzi can still prove herself to be a leader in this upcoming season. but i think it’s also good to recognize that some players don’t feel drawn to leadership roles on the team. there’s a lot of great players who just like to hoop and be good but don’t necessarily want or need to be a leader. i’m not saying that’s azzi but it could be so who knows.
azzi technically did have an healthy off season but i use the word “healthy” loosely because she may not have had enough time to heal but the same can be said about her first acl tear. she wasn’t in rehab or had any surgeries so she had time to focus on improving her game.

Im all for azzi going to Seattle. They could use azzi’s game. lol I saw a comment saying that if azzi will be another nika situation riding the bench. Umm I’m gonna go with no. Azzi is far too valuable to get kept on a bench majority of her rookie year. I’m very fond of the mystics and very wishful for the Valkyrie’s.
yeah so azzi and nika are not the same like at all what?? azzi would not be riding the bench. i could see seattle needing another guard. with current standings i don’t think she’ll be 8th pick i see her at 5 or 6 hopefully not 7 at indiana but i would like to see azzi in seattle. mystics and liberty are more likely. valkyrie is a dream

I just hope azzi’s decision on going into the draft isn’t partially based on Paige’s departure too. Even tho I do admit I feel wrong for even assuming that a bit. I would just love for her and even carol to gain more experience. WNBA is too brutal sometimes
see i don’t think paige leaving will have anything to do with her decision to leave

I think she’ll of course decide what’s best and either way I’ll support. Why people don’t want her to declare seems to be both so she can have more college experience and also since she’s coming off injury, they think the smarter move is to have an off season where she’s fully healthy and can kind of prepare for the W. The turnaround is fast after college and you don’t want to risk another injury, so doing what Paige did and having one fully healthy off season under her belt.
Jon is mysterious I think on one live he said she would stay but I honestly don’t even think she knows and will surprise us.
paige and azzi’s situations aren’t really the same. paige didn’t have one healthy off season. she had ankle surgery after her freshman year, acl tear after her sophomore year, after her junior year when she didn’t play she was still in the rehab phase. this was the first college off season she’s ever had.
if i’m not mistaken azzi had a couple “healthy” off seasons. and this is the first off season that she isn’t healthy. the main drawback i think she’s experience was playing too quickly after her injury.

Imagine she declares next year and gets sent to Canada 😭 idk how I’d feel about that it’s too far💔
for some reason i can’t imagine her on toronto. but toronto really isn’t that far it’s about 1.5 flight from connecticut and less than 2hrs from dc. if she was drafted to a west coast team that would be even further.
