Brother Dearest
The Miya Twins...
Inseparable throughout their entire life. Never one without the other. Even throughout their arguments they were there for each other.
Until high school
Even before they graduated Atsumu could feel his brother slowly drifting away. Maybe Atsumu was finally becoming to much for him. Maybe Osamu was finally getting tired of him. Just like everyone else. He had always been told Osamu was the better twin and he was slowly starting to believe it.
Osamu on the other hand was struggling just as much. How could he tell Atsumu he was slowly losing his love for volleyball knowing how much his twin wanted them to play together forever? Osamu couldn’t even find his own identity outside of being ‘The Other Miya Twin”.
Neither of them knew what was driving them apart and all it took to tear everything apart was one shitty day.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“So Osamu, what are we going to do now?” Atsumu had asked after their graduation ceremony.
“I don’t know why you’re saying we Atsumu but I’m going to college so I can finally open up that restaurant.”
“Oh. I thought we were going to play together.”
“What on earth made you think that?” Osamu replied, a look of disgust on his face “I would never want to spend that much time around you. Are you being serious?”
“I mean yeah...”
Atsumu could feel his eyes filling with tears and his vision getting blurry. What happened to everything they had been through? What changed? Why is he acting like this? Atsumu didn’t know what was happening but he could feel the anger begin to bubble over.
“Idiot” Osamu started laughing.
“What the actual fuck is wrong with you Osamu? Why are you acting like this?”
“I just think you’re delusional for expecting me to want to be around you”
“We’re supposed to be the Miya Twins! Together forever remember?!”
“That was a stupid high school dream Atsumu! I would never play alongside you for that long!!”
“Oh... I see”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It had been 3 years since they last talked. Atsumu was doing amazing, he had friends, teammates that were like family and his career was at an all time high.
One day, he ran into Osamu near the locker rooms after one of his games.
“Hey Atsumu. Can we talk?” Osamu asked, feeling the guilt fill him. No matter what had happened since, he couldn’t get rid of the guilt over what happened.
“Sure Osamu, whats up?” Atsumu had a huge smile on his face, feeling amazing after that big win, but he could feel a pit in his stomach. He knew this wasn’t going to end well.
“Listen... I’m really sorry about what I said. I wasn’t thinking straight and -”
He started rambling on about how bad he felt and how proud he was of his brother. Atsumu on the other hand was fed up. Who was he to come in here apologizing and going on and on about how bad he feels. What about him? Did Osamu ever stop to think about how Atsumu feels? Doesn’t seem like it. All this talk Osamu’s doing is just him trying to paint himself as the victim and Atsumu is tired of it.
Rolling his eyes he said “Sorry but can we hurry this up? My teammates are waiting for me.”
As if on cue Bokuto called his name.
“So what? Your teammates are more important than your own brother? We haven’t talked in years Atsumu. Give me a chance to explain myself!”
“There is nothing to talk about! I don’t want your apology and its obvious you’re only doing this because of your own guilt!!”
“You’re teammates don’t care about you Atsumu. They aren’t your family!!”
Atsumu was fed up. What had happened to them? “They’re nice to me!! Unlike you ever were!”
“Well they are lovely people”
“Yeah they are”
“They don’t know you!”
“And you do?!”
“I am done dealing with you and your shit Osamu, so just fuck off.” Atsumu voice cracked as he felt himself tearing up. “Please”
Osamu scoffed and walked away.
They never talked again. How could this have happened? They were so close. They were there for each other whenever they needed it. How could they have fallen so far?

Good Luck Miracle Boy
Tendou remembers a time when it felt like the world was closing in around him. A time where all he heard was whispers and he felt was glares. A time where he felt like we would be alone forever. Then he met him...
Ushijima
He remembers the day, not long after they met, that Ushijima had comforted him for the first time.
It was after a particularly tough encounter with other kids in the school. Ushijima had caught him crying in the bathroom and went to comfort him.
“Hey” he had said “Are you okay?”
When Tendou didn’t respond he thought for a moment before saying “Hmm... maybe a change will help.”
He went back to school with a different hairstyle the next day.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tendou is older now. He graduated high school 3 years ago and is watching the Schweiden Alders game on the tv in his apartment. As he looks at Ushijima he feels a tug in his heart.
Though it had been ages since they had last seen each other he couldn’t help but miss him everyday. He remembers all the time he spent with Ushijima and curses himself for not realizing how he felt earlier. For not confessing when he had the chance.
Oh well, its too late now, he thinks as he continues watching the game.
Thats when he notices it. Ushijima smiling and waving at a women in the stands. Ushijima never smiles. Never at anyone other than Tendou.
“Now you can see #11 Ushijima Wakatoshi waving to his girlfriend in the stands...” one of the announcers says.
Girlfriend...
Tendou turns off the tv and walks away.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Around a week later he comes back from work, sits down on the couch, and turns on the tv again. Another game is playing.
Tendou notices it all, how Ushijima sends her a small smile whenever he scores, how she cheers his name, and how he looks at her.
Like she is the only thing he could every want. Like she is the most beautiful thing he has ever seen. Tendou knows that look. Its the same one he would send to Ushijima whenever he knew he could get away with it.
Tendou gets up and walks away. He finds himself in the bathroom.
While staring at himself in the mirror he finally understands why Ushijima could never feel the same way. How could anyone love a monster like him? Ushijima’s girlfriend was beautiful. She was anything anyone could ever want. With her brown hair and green eyes its a surprise anyone who ever saw her didn’t fall instantly in love. Tendou knew he wasn’t like that. He was hideous. He terrified everyone with his appearance. Someone as amazing as Ushijima could never love that.
Hmm... he thinks. Maybe a change will help.
He grabs a razor and shaves it all off.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ever since that day it has become a tradition to sit down after work and watch Ushijima’s games. He knows that he can never get Ushijima back but he’ll take what he can get.
He hopes he’s happy. He hopes he’ll get everything he could ever want. He hopes she doesn’t break his heart.
“Good luck miracle boy...
Good luck”
