hmm. dex’s grief being expressed through his fear. this idea that grief and fear are inexplicably connected, how they both carry these similar feelings and sensations of anxiety. it’s not like dex is scared of, for example, julius or troy coming after him. he knows they won’t, but dex’s character during sr2 is synonymous w his paranoia. he becomes fearful of what anteros could do or say after he’s woken up. and i think in its own way this is a form of mourning. both dex and anteros are stuck between worlds, the fear of the future and the grief of the past, drowning in the suspense of what could happen, what will happen, what won’t happen.

At this moment from where I sit
None of it seems real
troy and anteros get really drunk at the casino bar, too drunk to drive back to either of their places but too tired to wait for a cab, and with their pooled together money they have enough to get a room for one night at one of the shittier motels along the marina (anteros keeps most of his money in his safes and troy isn’t exactly gonna carry his wallet around when he’s out with anteros; whatever they’ve got left in their pockets will have to do).
it’s late, they get the room, both still buzzed enough. anteros asks if he wants to have sex, and troy agrees. so they fuck, chat in bed for a few minutes before anteros blissfully dozes off to sleep mid-sentence. troy’s buzz is wearing off and being replaced by the urge for a smoke, so he puts his tank top and boxers back on and goes outside. he lights up his cigarette, and leans on the balcony as he looks around. yeah, it seems about right for what their combined 40-something dollars got them.
he continues to smoke when he sees a woman and man talking near the corner. he can’t hear them, but they’re the only other people out in this area at this time of night, so he watches them. it’s pretty clearly a drug deal, and troy continues to watch as he smokes—it’s not like he was planning on stopping them. the deal finishes, the man hurries off, but the woman stands there for minute. she sighs, arms folded and clearly annoyed about something. she looks up, and her and troy’s eyes meet. it’s in that moment that a recognition locks between them, or at least for troy: it’s luz avalos. she has an expression that reads as if she recognizes him from somewhere; whether as that old saint or as the police chief, he’s unsure. they just look at each other. she doesn’t seem afraid; the space between their gazes doesn’t feel hostile or fragile. it feels heavy. melancholy. they blink a few times, and eventually luz turns away. troy realizes he’s finished his cigarette. he should go to bed. he looks back up, but she’s already gone. he stares at the place she stood. the burning neon of the motel sign, the thick, humid air of the marina, and lingering stench of cigarette smoke make for an unfortunate combo to his senses—he feels dizzy. or maybe he’s just had too much to drink.

What's Anteros' "song"? You can define what that means.
i’m just gonna change the answer every time it’s brought up cuz tbh he’s a guy who’s got a lot of different sides to him. and i’m working on an official anteros playlist so i can just pick some songs from that. i think Can’t You See by Skylar Spence is such a good song for him during srtt.
my anteros playlist is specifically full these types of electronic/pop tunes bc i like to keep to a theme when i make specific character playlists, but i think there’s this certain era of sleazy electronic/pop/pop-punk from the late 2000s-2010s that i think captures him extremely well? this sense of pride and luxury, overconfident melodies overlayed w these lyrics of utter misery. just this great dichotomy that i think truly expresses the tone of srtt and, by extent, anteros during that time.

arghhh the contention between oleg and viola is so GOOD it’s one of those things i’m so glad i get to explore in my canon but it really deserved to get its own development in the actual games. like even just taking a look at it outside my own canon, how do you grapple w having to work and even trust the woman who had a hand in your suffering for decades? how do you put those feelings to rest—do you feel like you deserve some sort of vengeance? and on viola’s side, how do you prove to everyone around you that you can be trusted? will you always just be a vehicle for the plans of others, or can you actually prove you’re on their side? at what point is it just not worth trying anymore?

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I would love to get your perspective on how Anteros feels over the act of taking someone's life, and I guess violence in general.
an interesting question and honestly something worth asking for any boss. i don’t wanna say it necessarily came easy for him, especially given that the first gang members he’s tasked w fighting after troy shows him how to use a gun is some vice kings—the gang he arguably had the most personal connection to beforehand. i think he’s probably recognized several VKs he’s fought, and especially during sr1, the reaction is almost always the same: this nauseating mixture of guilt and loyalty. on one hand, he can’t Not recognize he killed someone. but on the other, this is for the saints. this is for julius. and in his own specific way he does eventually swallow this feeling down. this is likely why he actually prefers to be a sniper; aside from just genuinely being an incredible shot w it, it also provides this certain degree of separation. you don’t have to feel the blood splatter on your face or look into the person’s eyes if you’re 200 yards away.
sr2 marks his permanent change in demeanor. to him it all becomes a matter of protecting those he loves and that which is his—and especially during sr2, a need for revenge. he becomes a lot more unpredictable and intimidating than he ever was before, and it comes a lot easier for him. after a certain point he gets used to it, and i genuinely believe there are some days where it just hits him all at once. it’s unspecific, but someone as grief-ridden as anteros will always have these pangs of sorrow. whether it’s just…how he got to this point, how he struggles to recognize himself sometimes, thinking of those he’s lost, thinking of what he’s become, some mournful combination of it all, he’s really not sure. some mornings he just vomits in the shower and has to get on w his day.

About those Torque/Pierce (Torqueerce?) thoughts...? 🤔
it’s just interesting…thinking in general about torque’s interactions w the saints for the brief time he’s there during sriv. like i wonder if they recognize each other at all, assuming pierce went to any of the clubs torque worked at, or if they frequented similar bars/clubs after hours. torque is someone who never forgets a face so in that regard i think he recognized most of the stilwater saints already, but i’d be interested to see his interactions w pierce in particular. like he probably remembers him as a vice king, especially if he went to TnA at all (similar to how it’s entirely possible anteros had danced for/had some interaction w VK pierce prior to sr1/sr2). these things just keep coming back to the connections all throughout stilwater.
all that said i’m not sure if they’d really get along much, but torque does seem to be drawn to people who are much more outgoing than him, if anteros is any indication.

I'd be interested to hear some of your post-SRIV ideas, either for antagonists or just plot thoughts/ideas you've not yet shared :)
i wanna hold off on saying anything definitive on antagonists since i’m still not certain yet + i wanna do some more research and development on several things. but i have a long thing i’ve written talking about oleg’s role in the story and his general lore. so in earlier drafts of my backstory for him and his late wife, i did have it written that they had a son who was killed when the rest of the crime family died after oleg left for steelport to find loren. i ended up writing it out tho bc i just wasn’t sure about it, but i’ve been thinking about adding it back as a segue into his conflict post-sriv. i’ve definitely mentioned it before but there is this vague recurring theme of family w oleg specifically (the brutes seeing him as a father figure, the saints arguably becoming a new found family, and a lot of his interactions w the boss definitely come off as the boss seeing him as an older mentor/father figure, always coming to him to ask for advice). so w that in mind, he’s a character i can absolutely see as having been a literal father. it definitely adds even more to the tragedy of his character, which may have been a reason why i’d initially removed the detail about him losing his wife and son.
so how does this come back to post-sriv? the developing plot i have currently involves former members of his old crime family reappearing and him being unsure what to do, or if he can even trust them. originally it was ppl who switched sides before the syndicate fight unbeknownst to oleg, but now i wonder. what if it’s the former friends of his late son (as in the kids of other members of the crime family), just all grown up now. like would you really put it past a group as shady as the syndicate to take these kids in and shape them into assassins for their sake? i’d argue we barely know the ins and outs of the syndicate, the layers and overall organization of the group itself. with that said, if the ppl from his past who returned were ppl he knew when they were very young…..of course he’d feel more willing to trust them? to see them grown up and to think oh my god they survived, knowing everything he lost. but them having become wholly loyal to the syndicate and just trying to manipulate him. hmmm

on the page w the summaries of my rewrites, should i change the order around so things are chronological? like should i place the LoP story first, then srtt, then saints in hell, then sriv (then post-sriv)? or should i just leave it as is (srtt, sriv, post-sriv, then the in-between stories)

any NPC spawns or behaviors in sr2 that don’t make sense in-game just add it to the anteros ghost list. the faceless figures in old stilwater? the doormen at the abandoned price-sharp mansion? disappearing barbershop quartet? all ghosts
also typing this out made me remember the creepy house easter egg in the cemetery. you think that’s like. another stilwater urban legend. “if you go to the old house by the cemetery you can still hear the screams of its former residents” like does that not sound like one.
