okay its nikolai time lets begin:

I LOVE HIM SO MUCH okay so they captured book nikolai perfectly but then made him *even better* by having him never on the darklings side AND the fact that he openly supported alina and mal and made an effort to be mal's friend i love him guys

also his voice was just really nice please someone understand what i mean but hearing him speak was so satisfying

ALSO im really happy they connected him to the crows season 1 plotline i think it makes a lot more sense that way

FINAL ALSO nikolai sassing the apparat was my own personal season 2 equivalent of inej stabbing the darkling

SHADOW AND BONE SEASON 2 SPOILERS READ AT YOUR OWN RISK:

i know this was a season 1 revelation but mal is so good in the show??? and honestly even though i like the ending mal and alina had in the books i think the show gave them both a lot more nuanced endings, and the chance to do what they both really wanted to. all of this to say i already loved show mal AND NOW HE'S A PIRATE (privateer but you get it) so anyway this is it this is the moment the show convinces me that alina should choose mal over nikolai in a way the books never could

i have many many thoughts about all of the things they changed from the books and FOR THE MOST PART i think the changes worked really well but why did they have to kill david guys i was so sure he was going to be fine and then he was... not fine

i am returning from the void to say that even though the show changed *a lot* of plot points i actually think its completely fine because the wylan and tolya friendship??? the jesper and tolya friendship???? tolya shipping wesper???

i take back what i said about freddy being nothing like kaz. when the interviewers scared the cast, he just sat there completely unbothered and held amita’s hand, then laid back and said “so funny” as if the entire cast didn’t almost just pass tf out

i got attached to mal and that was a surprise

GENYA AND DAVID I LOVE THEM THEY WERE PERFECT DAVID WAS SO AWKWARD AND ENDEARING

they changed some stuff from the books but it all made sense and some of it was just more interesting to me

i really like that there was a subplot about west ravka wanting independence i think that just makes sense and seems realistic

NADIA!! AND MARIE!!

matthias and nina were honestly my favorite part and i was not expecting that

THE SETS!!!!

the crows interacting with mal alina and zoya at the end. that was great and also mal (likable archie mal) and inej working together and being the moral ones of the group was fun to see

i believe i have already made my opinions on this very clear but: MILO THE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT GOAT

the visual of kaz angrily holding a goat then jesper getting attached then milo helping mal

also i feel like it needs to be said that kaz was definitely not as cruel or ruthless as he is in the books but this is a prequel so thats not necessarily bad. he wasn't always perfect at what he does. not to mention it was nice to see him open up to inej at least a little.
