Caretaker giving Whumpee a gentle, reassuring smile as Whumpee wakes in a panic.
“Hey, look…look, it’s me. You’re okay, see? It’s all alright, just a bad dream. You’re alright, I got you. You should get some more sleep, okay?”

“I know you didn’t, Whumpee. This isn’t a punishment. Sometimes I just want to hear you scream.”

Whumpee clinging to the stranger who saved them. Overwhelmed with relief because someone was kind, someone wanted to help them. They’ve never been handled with this much care and they’re desperate for it.

walk with me. when a whumpee who was held captive with constant manacles/handcuffs, years later, after rescue and recovery of all the physical wounds, wears a too-tight watch or a clinky charm bracelet and is suddenly thrown back to then - and scrambles to take it off, just get it off, to the shock and confusion of the people around them. bonus points if the jewellery was a gift, bonus bonus points if they get damaged or broken in the panic and the ex-whumpee ends up, through their ptsd-fueled haze, apologising profusely and ignoring the fact that their loved one cares far more about them than the gift anyway

i see your 'whumpee is worried about caretaker being mad at them for something they did' and raise you 'caretaker not only forgave them for it ages ago, but forgot about it too.' - "Don't you hate me?" "Why on earth would I hate you?"

Little habits whumpee may not realise is a result of trauma
-Always knowing where every exit is. And always being near an exit.
-Always keeping their back to the wall, never wanting to be caught in an open space.
-Obsessively locking every door, every window, even their own bedroom. They won't relax otherwise.
-Brushing off compliments.
-Being overly defensive.
-Extreme independence. Never relying on anyone, they are fully capable of doing things alone and they are determined to
-Walking quickly. Never lingering, not even for a moment.
-Standing hunched, head down, making themselves as small and inconspicuous as possible. They wear loose, basic clothing, trying to both hide themselves and not stand out
-Lapses in memory. Especially not remembering childhood memories
-Never expressing excitement or want for anything. Never hoping for anything.
-In the same vein, never admit to enjoying anything. They fear they will be mocked, or it will be taken away. Anything can be used against them in some way.
-Being excellent in a crisis, even if they panic in minor situations.
-Perfectionism.
-Silent crying.

Whumpee being slowly conditioned. Thoughts slowly, carefully planted in their mind without them ever even noticing. At least, not until it's too late..

whumpee who occasionally gives up and just lays there for a few minutes.
maybe they’re safe and just taking a breather, maybe they need a minute before attempting to save themself, maybe they’ve actually given up.
either way, they just lay there and stare at the ceiling. they’re very tired.

Team whump prompts
Leader overestimated a new recruit’s strength for a mission, and now feels responsible for any harm that came to them.
Whumpee looked up to Leader for years, but now that they’re actually working under them, they’ve been introduced to a side to them that’s far from admirable.
Whumpee’s team arrives to save them, only to be made an offer by Whumper that they can’t refuse— one that involves leaving Whumpee behind.
Leader is framed as a traitor, and ends up sacrificing everything to prove their innocence and devotion to the team.
Whumper is second in command— they have far too much power (and far too much of the unsuspecting Leader’s trust) to ever be questioned.
Whumpee is forced to pretend to betray their team for a greater cause, but when they finally reveal the truth, their team doesn’t buy a word of it.

Caretaker accidentally hurting Whumpee while doing something mundane. Whumpee just freezes and allows it to continue, holding back tears but not uttering a peep.
Caretaker learns of their mistake afterwards and is devastated.
Whumpee might even comfort Caretaker because they were so distraught and apologetic that they hurt Whumpee like that. And that just makes Caretaker feel even more terrible.

Recovered Whumpee who find's an old hard drive with pictures from the worst time of their life.
They pictures seem normal to everyone else.
But when Whumpee goes through them they remember.
This was the day when they were beaten.
There was that one picture taken right before they woke up in hospital.
A picture of Whumper holding them, both with smiles on their faces.
A Video showing people that are no longer alive or of places that don't exist anymore.
And Whumpee sits there.
Crying. Feeling sorry for themself. Seeing their younger self begging for help with their eyes.
They recovered. They made it.
Life is now good. They don't have to fear anything anymore.
But they remember.
And even though pictures may lie, they will always carry the truth with them.

Whumpee thinking they have to love Caretaker because that is the only form of relationship Whumper ever allowed Whumpee to have with them.
Whumpee had been forced into a relationship with a very imbalanced power dynamic with Whumper but now thats all they knew. Its basically ingrained into them now. Its how they survived. They must love and show love to their superior in order to gain favor/ be considered ‘good’/ avoid punishments/ etc.
So now that Caretaker is the one that has filled the roll of Whumpee’s “superior” in their mind— though Caretaker vehemently denounces being ‘above’ them in any way and continues to reassure they are equals— Whumpee feels like they must love them.
Does Caretaker not realize thats why Whumpee is showing them love? Thinking, instead, that Whumpee truly loves them and allows themself to fall for Whumpee as well? Only to later come to realize that Whumpee doesn’t truly love them?
Or does Caretaker reject them, sending Whumpee into a panic that they weren’t being good enough? That they have failed in being what Caretaker wants and so they try harder and more desperately, hoping that they can be what Caretaker wants?
Does Caretaker not understand that Whumpee is showing affection for a reason and just assumes they are naturally ‘lovey’ and affectionate? Is Caretaker also a more affectionate soul and later feels guilty that they engaged with Whumpee, not realizing they didn’t actually enjoy that type of engagement?
I feel like this dynamic could have decent whump potential. Idk 🤷 …. Anyone have any other thoughts on this?

Whumpee’s new owner is…weird. They keep trying to take care of whumpee, offering food and comfort when others have given nothing. Whumpee doesn’t trust them and the only thing they can do is sit there as caretaker tries so hard to connect with them
