Always have been into whump since I can remember, but when I was about 11 or 12 after The Road to El Dorado came out I was watching with my much younger cousins (maybe 7 or 8?) and I guess one of them saw how engrossed I was in the scene where Tulio and Miguel are found on the ship as stowaways, put into stocks and then made to kneel in front of Cortez. My cousin piped up and tried to (very sweetly) reassure me "don't be scared, it'll be okay!"
And I couldn't explain that it wasn't fear. It was fascination; I was riveted by what could happen next, how much worse for them could it get. And it was my first realization that my reaction to whumpy material wasn't the "default norm."
To this day I still love a good scene involving restraints, and survival/escape stories are among my favorites.
early whump feelings can get nostalgic

Alright.
Not that disappointing.
But who voted anti: do block this blog, the @whumpkink and @analogbasilisk (my main). I do not feel safe with the presence of antis in the general vicinity. I write dark content and you should block me instead of having to resist your urges.
Maybe this will start a firestorm but I'm curious how proship or anti this community actually is. Would you be willing to post a poll that says something like, "If you are in the whump community, which do you most agree with?"
"I'm proship, and think antis don't belong here." "I'm proship, but I'm okay with antis being here." "I'm neither proship nor anti/it's complicated/nuance." "I'm anti, but I'm okay with proshippers being here." "I'm anti, and think proshippers don't belong here."
Before, the poll:
However, in general, proshippers believe that fans should not be harassed or threatened for their shipping preferences, exploring dark themes in fanworks does not reveal anything about a fan's morality or ethical beliefs, and that shipping fictional characters does not cause harm. (Fanlore)
(Go do some research if you weren't aware that proship is basically pro-fiction.)
Now let's see how disappointing this community really is this will go

mod confession #02
I don't like male or gender-neutral whump. but I have an exception to male whump: HTP, aka Hydra Trash Party.
in case you don't know what that is, don't look for it if rape/gang rape is a squick/trigger for you.

this could be more specific, i don't want to. I'm just curious about the a-spectrum part.

looking back in time, i’ve always liked whump. like,, there hasn’t been an awakening or anything. i don’t even think it’s sexy or consider it as a kink or anything, i just think it’s really fun.
when i was a kid, if there was a character i liked, i’d 100% draw or write stories about them in whump situations (still can’t count the amount of times i’ve written darwin watterson or lynn loud being dying because they’ve been hit by a car lol).
now that i’m older and have access to the internet, i dont really like making my whumpees die anymore. but everything else is actually fine lol. i don’t really watch shows for the whump, more like i watch shows/animes/play games, and my favorite characters usually become my whump victims!!
(unrelated, but the danganronpa franchise has been a hyperfixation of mine for 4 years now, ESPECIALLY the third mainline game, drv3. my all time fave is kaede akamatsu. which automatically makes her my current whump victim. just felt the need to say it.)
I need a poll to know if whump as an arousing thing is more or less common than whump as a fun thing.
I see you did start early. I understand not killing them off, and not watching for the whump (but that might be because lady whump in media is rare).
(I heard of that a bunch of times.)

Growing up my dad used to watch this Turkish Drama that was about Turkish Mafia and it was definitely not something a kid should have beenw watching.... But welp, I watched alongside him.
I think that was my whump awakening probably. It's funny to think about in hindsight because I remember my younger brother having a whinny the pooh teddy bear and me "torturing" it and laughing at him. I remember taking a string and tying it around it's neck and then hanging it in the closet and telling him his bear committed suicide....
I was like seven years old back then? I had seen a character in that Turkish Drama commit suicide and yeah 😭.
- 🦌
I've caught a glimpse of Turkish-and-the-like dramas, some seem to be pretty good whump awakening material.

my whump awakening came when I was still tiny. There was an episode of Martin Martin where the main characters were kidnapped or something and I kept trying to draw that scene for the whole day, hiding the drawings when my parents asked what it was
y'all were really young with you're whump awakenings, that's interesting

Hello, I noticed from a lot of varying confessions- whump enjoyment comes at such a young age (ages 5+ from what I've seen), its incredibly fascinating. This is way before puberty, so do you ever wonder what may contribute to triggering it? I'm betting on something in our brain chemistry since a lot of whump enjoyers are also A-spec. ITS RATHER CURIOUS ISNT IT!? 😁
Hi there. It's pretty interesting, and it's a pretty small sample of thw community and it's already this impressively varied.
My theory is that whump is such a human thing that people get their awakening pretty young. I probably should try to do some research on that.
I'll make a poll about the A-spec n my 'main' whump blog. Just to know a sample of the distribution between the three types.

Honestly… ONE OF the only reasons I like whump is because it turns me on.
Yup; whump can be kinky and can be pretty arousing.

I like rape/noncon only if there is some form of comfort/deepdive into trauma afterwards. It being romanticized is also a huge squick for me.
I understand that, romanticized is pretty icky to me (hope people do understand romanticized rape is not the same as CNC-type kinks).

I like mpreg.
Any time a gender role is "reversed". I want to see men vulnerable, on their knees etc.
But mpreg takes the cake
I can see the appeal. I might have written mpreg twice, comes with the omegaverse setting

My whump awakening was partly my mom's story where the main character said she would imagine being tied up by a bad guy. There were some others... little sparks..
But the main one that slammed my into liking whump was a star trek book where a Romulan I believe was tied up and being interrogated. Green blood flew. He was like punched off of the chair. The whumper was a woman.
Interrogations especially is a trope i still love. Spies, international drama, a secret that is locked in someone's head the enemy is trying to pry out by any means necessary... delicious stuff. I also like women whumpers of men. And aliens of course.
I just can't think of the name of that book atm...
Maybe someone around knows. Yeah. Whump awakenings can keep coming.

My whump awakening started with animals. I kind of ignore it bc it's weird but. I used to look in a homesteading book and it had how to skin a squirrel and I used to look at the pictures.... where the skin was showing and the fur peeled off. And I used to look at the part where the pig was hanging up by its ankles draining blood.
I love animals so I sort of horrifies me to think that. I was about 10. Then i "graduated" to people and didn't get any whump feelings for animals anymore.
But I still like the trope of hanging by wrists or ankles...
That was certainly an upgrade

I sometimes wish people would add a warning or just some kind of note in advance if their writing is in a reader’s pov. I don’t get bothered by much but opening a read more to find a prompt start off with *you* squicks me out beyond belief. But I also understand that this isn’t something that bothers most people so i don’t really expect it to occur to others that it could make people uncomfortable. I might just be alone in that even.
Well, that's certainly a unique squick. A valid one nonetheless. I would put warnings for that if asked.

rape/noncon is like. my biggest squick ever like if its written in a realistic, traumatic way its a hard-no for me BUT. THE WEIRD THING IS. ncn/consensual non-con and/or dubcon of that variety is like. i am really into that one of my fave types of smut. weird am i right. kinda ironic
rape/noncon being a squick and cnc being smut you enjoy makes sense to me.
#rape mention cw#tw noncon#whump community#whump blog#whumpblr#anon ask#whump confession#i can't read self-harm to save my life but i have a whole ass series that the main topic is cutting#i don't like poetry with obvious Christian undertones and I'm in my “writing Cristian undertones as an atheist through and through” era
