water cure (torture): water cure is a form of torture in which the victim is forced to drink large quantities of water in a short time, resulting in gastric distension, water intoxication, and possibly death.

whumpee lay restrained on the table, their heart pounding in their chest, their mouth forcibly kept open by a device that tasted of rusted metal. whumper's trained hands were steady as they positioned a funnel over whumpee's mouth.

"this is necessary, slave. you need to learn," whumper said with a cold, clinical detachment. "when you ask for things you haven't earned, there are consequences."

whumpee had asked whumper for water earlier in the day. they didn't receive an answer - only a chuckle and a smirk that promised future consequences. now, whumpee's eyes widened in horror as whumper began to pour water down the funnel. they tried to swallow, to keep up with the relentless flow, but it was too much, too fast. their stomach began to distend painfully, their body's natural reflexes fighting against the unnatural influx of water.

they could hear whumper's voice, distant and distorted, as if coming from the end of a long tunnel. "you see, slave, this is how you learn obedience. you need to understand your place."

the pain was unbearable, the psychological torment even worse. whumpee felt like they were drowning, not just in the water but in the complete loss of their will, their autonomy.

whumpee's body shook with the effort to cope with the physical pain and humiliation. their eyes, red and wet with tears, conveyed a mixture of fear and remorse.

"i'm sorry, master," whumpee gasped out, their voice distorted by the device in their mouth. "i didn't mean to… I'm sorry."

whumper circled the table, looking down at whumpee with a twisted satisfaction. "you should be sorry. you brought this on yourself. you need to learn, slave. you need to understand who's in control here."

the cruelty in whumper's tone was unmistakable, their words designed to crush any remaining sense of self-worth in whumpee. each apology from whumpee seemed to fuel whumper's desire to break them further.

"you're nothing without me," whumper continued, their voice dripping with disdain. "remember this, slave. remember your place."

whumpee could do nothing but nod, their body and mind overwhelmed by the intensity of the ordeal. their apology was automatic, a conditioned response to the terror and pain inflicted upon them. in this moment, whumpee was lost in a haze of agony and despair, utterly at the mercy of the person who had claimed them as their own.

Whump: The Musical Prompts!!

Thinking about the things a whumpee forgets they can do/don’t have to do anymore once they’re freed from captivity.

They forget to change their clothes because they never or rarely got new/clean clothes

Walking outside without shoes because they forgot they own some now

Forgetting to eat because in captivity they would just eat whenever food was presented to them

Starting to eat with their hands before remembering they now have the option to use utensils

Instinctively lying down on the floor when they get tired cause they never had a bed

Forgetting they have medical supplies, instead just leaving injuries to heal as they are

Talking to themself instead of going to caretaker

Struggling not to make a sounds whenever they get injured because that’s how whumper preferred it

Forgetting to call or visit people because they simply couldn’t for so long

Wondering about things endlessly without realizing they could just research them online or at the library

Just sitting still and thinking in their spare time because they were so used to just waiting with nothing to pass the time in captivity

Never bothering to turn on lights because there were none where whumper kept them

Instinctively keeping a schooled posture at all times the way whumper liked them to

I want to see a scene with whumpee putting on an outfit whumper got for them. Staring at themself in the mirror, feeling exposed and uncomfortable and so unlike themself.

Bonus points if whumper wraps their arms around whumpee’s waist and whispers in their ear, “You’re perfect like this.”

Whumper decides what to torture Whumpee with via a deck of cards. The number cards are more tame, like a beating or verbal abuse, while the queens and kings are hell. But the Joker is the worst. The Joker is torture in public. The humiliation.

Let's say that Whumpee can't go back to their job as a casino card dealer.

I actually think it is a Testament to how good The Umbrella Academy is that everyone who watches it thinks that Their Intro Season is the best. The show drags you in and you love it.

Writing rule:

Every character who speaks gets their own paragraph. If two characters are talking, each time they switch you must create a new paragraph.

Do not add more than one characters’s dialogue into a single paragraph or it will be too confusing for the reader.

"I like to write about it in fiction" does not mean "I desire it to happen in real life", and never has.

What you want to write about doesn't necessarily mean anything about you, besides that you want to write about it.

do you know where "no beta we die like x" comes from and how it is used?

The term "beta" in this context is short for "beta reader" - a person who reads a fic while it's still in the editing stage and helps the writer get it ready to post. Some betas check grammar. Some check canon compliance. Some are sensitivity readers. There are lots of things that betas can do.

So functionally, saying "no beta" means that the writer didn't get this checked by a second person before they posted it. It's a warning that there might be errors or typos etc. It's mostly used when an author has written something quickly and is posting without doing a lot of (or any) edits first.

As for where it comes from? It all started with a bumper sticker.

This image was an internet meme at one point, and it got meme'd on in the form of "no ___ we ___ like men"

Here on tumblr, one of the versions that got really popular was from now-deleted user @grec1a who created this version:

From there, it migrated to AO3 as the "no beta we die like men" tag, and very often the word men is replaced by the name of a character who dies in canon.
