A character struggling to properly care for a wound due to their reluctance to do things that they know will hurt or be uncomfortable that are necessary for the cleaning of the wound or changing of dressings or exercises of the injured limb.

An injured character wakes up and is initially confused as to why a limb is so stiff or heavy or they can't open an eye or move an appendage, not realising what they're feeling is bandages or a splint or sling or cast, forgetting their injury in the haze of first awakening or lingering delirium or confusion of bloodloss.

walk with me. when a whumpee who was held captive with constant manacles/handcuffs, years later, after rescue and recovery of all the physical wounds, wears a too-tight watch or a clinky charm bracelet and is suddenly thrown back to then - and scrambles to take it off, just get it off, to the shock and confusion of the people around them. bonus points if the jewellery was a gift, bonus bonus points if they get damaged or broken in the panic and the ex-whumpee ends up, through their ptsd-fueled haze, apologising profusely and ignoring the fact that their loved one cares far more about them than the gift anyway

10 Non-Lethal Injuries to Add Pain to Your Writing
New Part: 10 Lethal Injury Ideas
If you need a simple way to make your characters feel pain, here are some ideas:
1. Sprained Ankle
A common injury that can severely limit mobility. This is useful because your characters will have to experience a mild struggle and adapt their plans to their new lack of mobiliy. Perfect to add tension to a chase scene.
2. Rib Contusion
A painful bruise on the ribs can make breathing difficult, helping you sneak in those ragged wheezes during a fight scene. Could also be used for something sport-related! It's impactful enough to leave a lingering pain but not enough to hinder their overall movement.
3. Concussions
This common brain injury can lead to confusion, dizziness, and mood swings, affecting a character’s judgment heavily. It can also cause mild amnesia.
I enjoy using concussions when you need another character to subtly take over the fight/scene, it's an easy way to switch POVs. You could also use it if you need a 'cute' recovery moment with A and B.
4. Fractured Finger
A broken finger can complicate tasks that require fine motor skills. This would be perfect for characters like artists, writers, etc. Or, a fighter who brushes it off as nothing till they try to throw a punch and are hit with pain.
5. Road Rash
Road rash is an abrasion caused by friction. Aka scraping skin. The raw, painful sting resulting from a fall can be a quick but effective way to add pain to your writing. Tip: it's great if you need a mild injury for a child.
6. Shoulder Dislocation
This injury can be excruciating and often leads to an inability to use one arm, forcing characters to confront their limitations while adding urgency to their situation. Good for torture scenes.
7. Deep Laceration
A deep laceration is a cut that requires stitches. As someone who got stitches as a kid, they really aren't that bad! A 2-3 inch wound (in length) provides just enough pain and blood to add that dramatic flair to your writing while not severely deterring your character.
This is also a great wound to look back on since it often scars. Note: the deeper and wider the cut the worse your character's condition. Don't give them a 5 inch deep gash and call that mild.
8. Burns
Whether from fire, chemicals, or hot surfaces, burns can cause intense suffering and lingering trauma. Like the previous injury, the lasting physical and emotional trauma of a burn is a great wound for characters to look back on.
If you want to explore writing burns, read here.
9. Pulled Muscle
This can create ongoing pain and restrict movement, offering a window to force your character to lean on another. Note: I personally use muscle related injuries when I want to focus more on the pain and sprains to focus on a lack of mobility.
10. Tendonitis
Inflammation of a tendon can cause chronic pain and limit a character's ability to perform tasks they usually take for granted. When exploring tendonitis make sure you research well as this can easily turn into a more severe injury.
This is a quick, brief list of ideas to provide writers inspiration. Since it is a shorter blog, I have not covered the injuries in detail. This is inspiration, not a thorough guide. Happy writing! :)

One of my favourite ways for the team to find out about The Horrors™ is to be sent a video of it by Whumper. Maybe the file was obvious about its contents, maybe the contents was disguised. Either way, the team watch the footage and they are horrified.
Is Whumpee with them when they watch the footage? Do they try to quietly slip away — realising what's about to be shown far before anyone else — but find themself frozen in place by panic as the others catch on?
Or does the team discover the footage without Whumpee, and have to decide whether to confront Whumpee or pretend they didn't see it? Does Whumpee walk in while it's playing, or walk past the open door and run away before the team can turn around and notice?
So much fun to be had.

so glad to find sm prompts of beatings, i think they're one of the few underrated whump tropes in the sense of the damage they do ughhh any prompts for during and aftermath of a beating? somewhere i always imagine how whumpee feels once they finally get the chance to look at themselves in the mirror and see their face
Yes!! I love this trope so much.
Beatings
Content: beating, broken bone, unfair fight, prisoner of war
Throwing a small whumpee across the room into the wall, aggressor watching them pick themselves up from the floor only to grab them and throw them into something else
Woozy victim trying to stand up, gets kicked back down in the stomach
Victim trying to get to their hands and knees, gets kicked in the butt, and their chest and cheek smacks back into the gravel as they hit
Teeth clacking together as victim literally bites the dust, tasting it gritty in their mouth
"I'll make you kill me!" "You won't take me alive!" Cue beating victim till they can't resist. Dragging them into camp by the hair and collar and depositing them in front of enemy ruler, beaten and barely walking.
Earning captor's respect by how much of a beating they can take before they give up on fighting back or running
"that was fifteen punches. Do you think you can take one more?"
Yells of pain and panic as group of guards bust in and start punching the crap out of prisoner for cursing at them
Aggressor watching whumpee writhing, rolling over to protect their stomach after the beating, trying to hush their cries--they know they are being watched
Doctor scanning the trembling victim afterward, not sure where the hell to start
Captor watching victim still writhing over a broken bone, sobbing, hours later. "Sheesh. Didn't mean to do that, oops. Shouldn't have made me mad I guess."

I was listening to all the Tony award nominated shows while scrolling on your blog. It took me five hours. I got all the way to stuff that you reblogged on May third.
