Pink Diamonds Shattering

Okay, I’m extremely new to coming up with my own theories but with everything that has happened in the past few episodes, I think I can gather enough information to make a viable theory.

First off, we were left in “The Trial” with fingers pointed to Yellow Diamond, she reacts terribly and starts poofing gems and attempts to shatter Rose-quart's gem. Fortunately Blue argues with Yellow and Steven gets away with Lars. One thing we heard Blue say was Pink was shattered with a sword. Bismuth created Rose’s sword to poof, but not shatter gems. So we know her sword didn’t shatter her. Nobody knows exactly how Pink was shattered despite the eyeball ruby saying she saw it happen with her own eye. Unfortunately for her, she has been wrong so many times that we can’t trust her word. (ie. Amethyst as Jasper)

One thing people have been focusing on is the fact someone had to be close to shatter pink. The Gem people look to for this explanation is Pearl. I don’t believe Pear was Pink’s pearl. my reasoning, look at Yellow and Blue’s pearls. They are the same color as their diamonds. I can’t imagine our Pearl, who appears white, would have been able to get close to Pink. Also in the Human zoo episode, Pearl couldn’t control basic Homeworld technology that Pearls would generally be able to use. So I don’t think it could have been Pearl to shatter Pink. 

However, something that strikes me is Pearl refuses to shapeshift. She tells Amethyst “You know what happened last time.” This makes me think though, Amethyst was shocked to hear that Rose Shattered Pink. So Amethyst wouldn’t have even known about Pearl shapeshifting to shatter Pink. So this idea of Pearl using that ability to shatter a diamond is flawed. 

Now I have been thinking about who could have shattered Pink and I’ve read a few theories that are interesting, but I would like to keep mine completely my own. After thinking about it for a long time it only makes sence to me that White Diamond could have helped with the Assasination of Pink.

Looking at this picture we can see Rose holding Pink Diamond, possibly she had used her Sword (Blues argument) to poof her. Theory how she got to her was by using lion’s teleportation. White tried to stop her and shattered Pink, which is why Rose’s tears are flowing when she see’s Pink’s Palatine. Rose never intended to have Pink Shattered. White Shattered Pink and disappeared because she didn’t want to face her sisters. But wait, how come nobody mentions White at all during the Trial? Or at all ever? White Diamond has never been said at all during any episode we have ever seen? This is where things become tricky to me. White Diamond flees after not being able to stop Pink from getting hurt and maybe she is too ashamed to tell her sisters about it so nobody knows. Because Rose is present in the situation maybe she has all the fingers pointed at her now. Unfortunately I haven’t had any time to think past this moment but I will post a part 2 sometime tomorrow. the ‘Blue Diamond Shattered Pink’ theory

I feel like a lot of people jumped to the quick conclusion that ‘Yellow Diamond shattered Pink!’ without really considering the fact that it would be (in my opinion) a pretty weak plot twist, at this point.

so I’m here to to offer my theory as to what actually happen. of course, we know the crewniverse likes pulling the rag from under our feet whenever we think we got things covered, so this is the best scenario I could think of as for the latest Wanted special.

So, by the end of The Trial, we’re all led to believe Pink’s shattering was an inside job, at least partly. i look at the plot from a storytelling stand point, therefore, it makes no sense to me that after everything Steven had to go through in the last season, since finding out about Rose’s dark secret, they would just… cancel it like that. it’s a cheap way out, and I don’t believe the crewniverse would do that, especially after the massive effect this twist had on Steven’s character arc.

What I do believe ‘The Trial’ was trying to do is make us question HOW Rose shattered Pink diamond, because it’s clear that the official story sounds super sketchy. I believe she used the power of another Diamond and turned it against Pink, leading to her shattering. This story would be stronger because: a) it doesnt take away Rose’s responsibility and DECISION to preform the act, therefore, not cheapening Steven’s arc in season 4. b) It would make sense for the Diamonds to cover up the real story, because knowing they were manipulated (somehow) to destroy one of their own would make them look weak in front of their subjects. c) It leads to a lot of guilt on the diamonds’ part, which is an incredibly interesting emotion to have in villains (most villains are portrayed as remorseless). also, this mural

So who’s the guilty diamond? I know everyone is already screaming Yellow! and White! at the screen, but actually… i believe it’s Blue Diamond. and she doesn’t know that.

Why, you ask? because I believe it would make the strongest story. She’s the least suspected Diamond, so the surprise element is there. She’s not aware of the actual story, and it drives her insane, and makes her look for answers as to what really happened. Yellow, on the other hand, doesn’t want Blue to find out, because she knows realizing the truth would crush Blue. She’s already barely functioning, and she’s not even aware she had had direct involvement in the murder. So Yellow plays along with Blue’s investigation, and tries to finish it as quickly as possible so Blue could move on without finding out the truth.

idk, this seems like a stronger motivation to me than ‘Yellow decided to plot against Pink because Pink liked hoo-mans, and then decided to pretend like she feels grief to manipulate Blue’. Theories that blame Yellow for murdering Pink (whether directly or indirectly) forget that that’s also a bad story-telling decision, since ‘What’s the Use Of Feeling, Blue’ was entirely dedicated to explaining to us Yellow’s way of dealing with grief. Saying she’s acting that out would again, cheapen the character.

Back to Blue. So there are two ways she could’ve been involved without knowing about it in the present day: 1) She was indirectly used. She might’ve been the person who called Pink out of her palanquin which led to her shattering, or Rose was using her image to lead Pink somewhere (we know Pink and Blue were close, so if anyone wanted to shatter Pink, they would use that knowledge to their advantage.) 2) She was directly used- maybe she tried attacking Rose, and Rose used her shield to re-direct the attack at Pink- after all,

in that case, Blue didn’t have any intention to shatter Pink but she was fully aware of the consequences, leading to the Diamonds’ later altering her memories, for her own sake, rather than to cover up their scummy scheme.

To me, this is the strongest outcome we can get with the information we have so far. No character is doing something ‘for the sake of being evil’, it still acknowledges the Diamonds as actual characters with feelings and motivations and not just plot devices, it makes Rose take responsibility for her actions and the murder mystery is still interesting without cheapening prior plot elements.

I decided to write down my theory after reading this theory, that discusses the possibility of Blue’s memories being altered. so check that out too (if you havent already).

Very little on Steven Universe is done by accident! Hear me out:

I believe it was very intentional that the frame in which we are told that Rose shattered Pink Diamond was drawn this way, with Eyeball looking directly at a character we know to be in disguise. How can we believe what Eyeball tells us she saw with her own eye, if we know for a fact how easy and often she is fooled by the Crystal Gems?

I know Amethyst was not involved in the war with Pink Diamond and didn’t emerge until thousands of years later, but I think it’s very important that we have been shown that a Crystal Gem is entirely capable of shape-shifting into an identical copy of Rose Quartz.

And finally, Pearl’s reaction to Steven being told that Rose shattered a gem. She seems to be immobilized, extremely upset with this information being out in the open. I know we do not really see much of Pearl shape-shifting, but maybe there is a very good reason for that??? Pearl would have done anything for Rose, things that go against the personality we now know her to have. She was a different person before Steven was in her life. She was certainly not against war or fighting or combat. Again, look at how the shot of Pearl is drawn, with Pink Diamond in the back.

Did Pearl shape-shift into Rose Quartz to take down Pink Diamond on her behalf? Do the other gems know that? Does Greg? (“Amethyst, you KNOW how I feel about shape-shifting!”) Did Rose feel responsible regardless and dedicate her external being into forming new life to make up for this?

I am thinking it could possibly have been a bluff to make Amethyst think that Steven (in Jasper's mind Rose) did something terrible, which would make Amethyst side with her. I coulf be totally wrong though.
