I didn’t want to love God for what He could do for me. I wanted to love God for who He is. To worship Him because He is worthy and not because I expected something in return.

Society's Erasure of My Sisters is My Best Example of National Moral Failure
Biologically, I have one older brother, one younger brother, and two younger sisters. When people ask about my family, it is easier to lie and say I have two brothers and I am the only girl than to tell them I have two siblings who have passed away.
On the rare occasion I am honest, the vast majority of people ask how this came to pass. My sisters both died in-utero. Most people, upon hearing this, immediately discard their sympathy for confusion, skepticism, or downright aggression. Confusion comes when they don’t understand how it is that I come to count my sisters among my siblings. Skepticism comes when they discredit my family’s decade of grief and express to me that it doesn’t count because the girls were never born - and thus never ‘alive’ or ‘people’. Aggression, though rarer, presents as rage that I have lied to them as a pity play, or that I am grasping at straws to make a pro-life argument.
I just want to acknowledge my sisters. It feels evil every time I edit them out of my story. It feels like betrayal to the family who went through the same deep-cutting, endless pain I did. It reopend the wounds of grief each time. But I’m exhausted and afraid. So I bite my tongue and erase my sisters.
Because it’s politically correct. Because to acknowledge them is to oppress someone’s “right to choose”. Because every statement is politically charged now, including - and maybe especially- grief. Because basic human decency has been replaced by a need to always be right, always ‘win’.
Because I have no right to pain that the media didn’t give me permission to have.
This is how I know we are failing, and will only grow worse with time.
