it’s been three(ish) years but i finally found the motivation to write something….

may i introduce to you a gojo character study about grief! otherwise known as 4 times gojo didn’t understand grief + 1 time he did

One thing I noticed yesterday watching the movie: Gojo usually toys with the villains and antagonists. He's witty and annoying and doesn't fail to embarrass them in some way or another. He finds a way to insult them somehow or display how weak they are in comparison to him. However, with Geto he was incredibly straight-faced. No witty comment or insult whatsoever. His expressions were very calculated, like he didn't want any emotion to betray him.

It reminded me of that paragraph in the light novel "Gojo felt like he didn't know what face to make. His words, his every expression, even his bad habits - they made Gojo feel like each one was full of nostalgia, to the point of fond annoyance. A conversation between the two of them alone, ten years separated."

Being around Geto was painful to Gojo. Being around Geto reminded him of a version of himself that wasn't tainted by the loneliness he carries with now. I bet he wanted to react so bad to things Geto said, laugh, get angry at him, but anything would remind him of those days when he wasn't alone.

At the beginning of the movie, Gojo tells Yuuta something along the lines of how terrible being alone is. I wish I remembered the exact line. And I truly believe the movie hinted at Gojo's loneliness pretty well. There were shots, moments where Gojo reacted to Geto, but they weren't reactions per se because his blindfold covered his eyes. So we can only guess his reactions, never know them for sure. And no one will, unless you pay attention... and that's just lonely. I think Yuuta was the only one to catch on that at the end.

I saw many people leave the theatre surprised because they hadn't seen that part of Gojo before. They'd never seen him affected by something.

Noticing this, it just adds to the box of how much it makes sense why seeing Geto again in Shibuya fucked him up so badly. And something interesting about that is that Gojo isn't wearing his blindfold in Shibuya. "Geto" catches him completely vulnerable.

If Kenjaku had been watching the events of Vol 0, then he was really fucking smart for realizing Gojo Satoru's trigger.

parallels. parallels. parallels. gojo & geto; megumi & yuuji

well long post ahead cause I probably won’t be able to sleep unless I get this out of my brain… just lots of crying lol

As it is… Yuuji and Megumi’s relationship is quite obviously both a mirror and a contrast of Gojo and Geto’s relationship… that all things considered… didn’t work out.

I know their circumstances differed and it wouldn’t be right to compare the gravity and weight of the cases each of them faced but this is really just about how I observed Megumi & Yuuji’s dynamic to be “a one that reaches enough” compared to Gojo & Geto’s “if only’s”.

Megumi & Yuuji’s dynamic seems to take all that “one step” Gojo & Geto missed to take. It seems to successfully reach out in a way that Gojo and Geto didn’t.

Really… I’m just trying to make myself more upset by thinking how much more tragic can satosugu get lol but yeah… parallels

Ah but it’s something when you think about how Geto watched Amanai get shot in the head in front of him and Yuuji had to watch Junpei get disfigured by Mahito also in front of him. Both of which was just right after a convo that would motivate Amanai and Junpei to continue on with their lives. Amanai refusing to merge with Master Tengen and Yuuji offering Junpei to attend Jujutsu High…

I’ve been thinking about the parallels between itafushi and satosugu a lot lately and I’m sure someone else has already made an in-depth analysis abt them but I just wanted to drop my two cents here lol.

I thought for the longest time that Megumi just has to kill Yuji (as Sukuna) at the end of the series. Recently I’ve been thinking that an ending where Megumi somehow finds a way to save Yuji from Sukuna is possible.

I’m not sure exactly how he’d do it, but the main reason why I think it’s possible for him to save Yuji is because it’d be fitting for Megumi to succeed Gojo by not only reaching his level of power, but also by doing something that he could not; saving his soulmate best friend. Also, considering how it’s Gojo’s goal to change the status quo of the jujutsu world, it’d be depressing if nothing changed and they just execute Yuji like originally planned at the beginning of the series. Finally, I’m thinking it might be too predictable for Yuji to be killed by Megumi (although I guess the same could be said if he lives bc shounen lol).

This might just be wishful thinking but yeah basically, I’ve been teetering between “Megumi will kill Yuji because Gojo failed to do so with Geto” and “Megumi will save Yuji because Gojo failed to do so with Geto.”

Do y'all ever think about the fact that maybe Gojo never wanted to be 'The Strongest' all by himself, I'm sure he didn't mind it, maybe he even enjoyed it or reveled in it, I mean it does stroke the ego but did he want it ? All by himself? At the beginning, it was Gojo and Getou who were 'The Strongest' - together, and after the Shibuya break-up, Gojo started raising students who would be his comrades, who would be 'The Strongest' with him, who he'd be able to rely on if anything happened. Do y'all think about how alienating it is to not have equals and to have to bear a mantle as huge as being 'The Strongest'.

(Here, have some satosugu and the inherent tragedy of the two of them - as a bonus!!)

Let’s talk about this scene in TDA, shall we?

(I already put it in the tags but I’m saying it again: it will become a tlbotw post after the screenshots so be warned)

When Emma and Julian tell our Malec about Thule!Malec this happens:

Magnus’ outburst seems a bit out of place here. Magnus rarely looses is cool, especially around others, and here he’s grabbing him and shaking him and he looks furious, in front of people he barely knows. That’s a lot unlike him, he never does it even in extremely dangerous situations when he should be definitely more scared. There is nothing happening that threatens Alec’s life right now and nothing that suggests Alec would do something like that in their world.

I mean, there are no kids in the other world obviously, so that makes things different. And as Jace says in Forever Fallen, Alec killed himself undoubtedly for Magnus but because he wanted to take the secrets of the revolution with him, as well. That’s why Sebastian is angry when he finds out he’s dead.

None of that applies to their universe, it’s not that concerning.

So why Magnus is so angry? He should know his Alec wouldn’t do something like that, right?

Wrong!

Because when they discuss about this, the Lost Book of the White already happened, and that mean that this already happened.

Magnus knows that this is something his Alec would 100% do, because his Alec already did it.

Alec didn’t know he was going to survive that, he is surprised when he finds out he survived. And when this happens, they already have Max.

That’s why Magnus is so horrified of what they tell him. It isn’t another Alec in an extreme situation making a circumstancial choice. It’s Alec being Alec, in each and every universe, including their own.

And it makes him understand that this is ingrained in Alec’s nature, and that makes it so much scary, and he has to make him swear Alec understood he can’t just keep doing this, he needs to be reassured on the fact that this is not going to happen again, ever.

And it makes him reminesce about what could most likely be one of the worst moment of his life.

That’s why he freaks out like this, even if he usually brushes off scary thoughts and stressful and even life and death situations with sarcasm and funny comments.
