Wicked Wednesday
presents: Sonos - Wicked Game
Last week I introduced you to a jazz version of "Wicked Game", this time I found some who just get rid off all instruments. Hear what's happening to "Wicked Game", when the only instrument to play is the voice. Well if you got a voice like the ones these Sonos girls and guys have you can do. Otherwise better don't post it...

Wicked Wednesday
presents: Sandro Dominelli Trio - Wicked Game
You might know "Wicked Game" in serveral versions, most likely close to the original, often as an acoustic recording, of course the rocking hit version H.I.M. did and last week a brained washed elevator and hotel lobby lounge version stared at this spot, but have you ever imagined to sound "Wicked Game" like a real Jazz Tune? Picture this, Chris Isaak in a smoky and small downtown Jazz Club, sitting in his mirror suit on a bar chair playing 12-String or whatever. No idea what that should sound like?
Well, here it is! These guys have done a good job, enjoy "Chris Isaak" on the educated adult side of the music spectrum

presents: Bossasonic - Wicked Game
To transform a classic hit like Wicked Game into a slow moving hotel lobby soft jazz version becomes more and more pupular, not only with Wicked Game. A lot of people love this kind of stuff, but not me, I prefer the original version

Wicked Game seems to be a casting show favorite. In 2010 later contest winner Rebecca Ferguson also picked this Chris Isaak classic for her performance.

Wicked Wednesday
presents: P!nk - Wicked Game
Superstar P!nk has recently included Chris Isaak's Wicked Game into her latest live show. The song is also included in her DVD release "The Truth About Love - Tour (Live from Melbourne)". I'm a bit disappointed by her version, as everybody knows, she has a great voice, she's highly professional, she has developed her own style, but her version of Wicked Game is a lame 1 to 1 copy, no personal "P!nk" note in it, no fire, no pashion, just a show filling tune.

Wicked Wednesday
step three: make it popular!
When David Lynch used the "Wicked Game" instrumental in his 1990 road movie "Wild at Heart" the song got some first attention. The record company Warner Bros. obviously wasn't satisfied with strange character Lynch has provided with his video version using film scenes putting the song in a kind of dark atmosphere, too dark to reach a bigger audience. So Herb Ritts got the job to do a video that does better fit the mass market. He's done a pretty good job choosen a sexy almost naked girl, beaches, sun, romantic and all the cliches we have in our mind.
Success has proven him right. His video has transformed a good song with some attention to a massive hit all over the world.

The Wicked Wednesday Christmas Special:
The Chris Isaak Christmas Song Collection
# 18 “Santa Bring My Baby Back”
This time there's no doubt, that Elvis’ Christmas album is the reference to this hidden Isaak treasure. "Santa..." is first released in 1957 by Elvis Presley on his #3 hit album "Elvis' Christmas Album". In 2004 Chris Isaak released an album almost with the same title but only "Christmas" and his sound made it clear once more, he knows Elvis. Isaak picked four songs Elvis had on that album, but two where almost withdrawn, "Santa.." only made it to be included as a bonus track in the Australian and the US Target Edition - maybe because of its lack of tempo, Elvis has done it with some more "enthusiasm". Anyhow, the song is good for a somehow relaxed interpretation and Isaak has done a good job if you're not limited to  Elvis' version

The Wicked Wednesday Christmas Special:
The Chris Isaak Christmas Song Collection
# 18 “Santa Bring My Baby Back”
Elvis Presley
Elvis’ Christmas album hit #3 hit in the US pop album charts in 1957 and "Santa Bring My Baby Back" was one of the two new songs especially written by Aaron Schroeder and Claude Demetrius for Elvis and that album. Both wrote some other of Elvis' hit songs, "Now Or Never" is a Schroeder one, while Billboards # 1 single "Hard Headed Women" by Demetrius becam the very fist Rock 'n' Roll Single ever certified RIAA Gold.
So "Santa Brick My Baby Back" was a good pick when Chris Isaak decided to record his version in 2004. Most likely he was not entirely satisfied with the result as the song later wasn't included in the standard release, but only as a bonus track to certain special editions for Australia and the US Target chain

The Wicked Wednesday Christmas Special:
The Chris Isaak Christmas Song Collection
# 17 “I'll Be Home For Christmas”
One more time a christmas classic by Bing Crosby, he had a top ten hit in 1943 with the the song he got from the writers team Walter Kent and Kim Gannon, later on Buck Ram was added to the credits after a law suit 'bout the copyrights. Ram wrote a poem with the same title before and successfully claimed copyrights to the song

The Wicked Wednesday Christmas Special:
The Chris Isaak Christmas Song Collection
# 17 “I'll Be Home For Christmas”
Elvis Presley
Elvis' Christmas album has got big reputation and has become a classic for the holiday season. The Album peaked at number 3 of the US pop album charts. Chris Isaak hasn't hide his favor for Elvis and so Elvis' Christmas album may have been the example for him to do the same. In 2004 he released a couple of the songs Elvis sung on his album "Christmas", "I'll Be Home..." instead has only been chosen as a bonus track for the "Australian Edition"
