Love it when inspiration hits. Hate it when it's not for the project I actually wanted to work on. No, I'm not supposed to start something completely new - I've got to finish this first. please. come on... writing inspo don't get sidetracked.

...Sometimes I look at what I've written and ask myself "WHAT have I written? and WHY?" Even though, I should theoretically know the answer to both.

So.
I had to
- I don't think Stan would actually put something this heavy on the kids. When during A tale of two Stan's when he's sleeping in his car he just goes, "Awe yeah, i was doin GREAT"
But I still had to

Since I've read the book of Bill all my thoughts just return to Gravity Falls. All my projects have taken on a certain vibe? It's hard to explain, it's just like suddenly hyhubwklqj lv mxvw dqrwkhu hqfubswhg zlwk d flskhu iru ixq… Rk qr. Additionally, my workflow is so out of whack. Hyperfixation, why are you olnh wklv. “you’re a writer, can you explain your process?” yes. first, i panic. then i procrastinate. then, in a fit of productivity at 3 a.m., i create chaos.

I know adverbs are controversial, but "said softly" means something different than "whispered" and this is the hill I will die on.

Actually not quite sure if I should rewatch Nosferatu (Murnau, 1922) or if I should actually try and stay with the times and watch something more modern, like... Nosferatu (Eggers, 2024).

You think if you've already written an essay about a topic once you're good. But no. I've been reworking and rewriting this "essay to article post" for months and it keeps growing. It'll be fine handing this over to my friend, who'll tell me to just cut that out again. But hey... it wouldn't be a Frankenstein analysis if no patchwork was involved.

Once again reminded this sideblog exists. So... uhm... yeah, hi. I read a few books last year and decided to write down some of my thoughts for each of them.
It's kind of a follow-up to a different article I wrote about my experience with Goodreads & a podcast episode about 'reading' in general. Neither are needed for this little list, but if you're interested in some weird story telling about how frustrated outside pressure can be when you've always been told you're such an "avid reader" - that'd be it! Happy New Year and all that, and have fun reading.

I have to remind myself sometimes that I actually like writing. This is that reminder. I like writing. Probably. Jury's currently out because writing a draft freaking sucks.

i really want people to stop writing scientists as awkward, stilted conversationalists who don't understand idioms or emotions and start writing them as depressed alcoholics who swear like sailors unless they're in a specifically academic situation

There was a reviewer or commenter who said "I always keep track of how many mistakes the protagonist makes and after three, I stop reading the story and never look back".
I think about that person pretty frequently. We read for our own enjoyment, and therefore there's no wrong way to read a book so long as you're enjoying yourself, but ... maybe I don't actually believe that. Maybe there are wrong ways to read a book, and this guy found one.

A thing I've noticed throughout my years at university and even now after getting the degree... Whenever I wrote a draft I struggled more with sharing it with friends and colleagues. Publishing a WIP fanfiction online? Sure, it's all fun. Sharing your work with friends, though? No, thanks! What if they'll notice FLAWS in my writing and wish to help me improve my drafts???? The horror. Writing a paper and trying to have a friend proof-read it? But what if your thesis is wack? What if it's completely idiotic? Nah, I don't want my friend tell me this and try to improve my draft - better just hand it in as it is to push it out of my mind. It's such a frustrating urge. Me, afraid of feedback and judgement coming from people close to me? More likely than you'd think.
