PEIP Mystery 28

You look both ways struggling to make a decision. As you do, you realize your indecision has let the strange sounds from the left to catch up to you as purple, feathery creatures suddenly lunge at your group. You feel sharp teeth sink into your neck as you stumble back and shoot the one attacking the General. The fight around you is a blur of violence and blood as you struggle against the creature biting you.

You notice the right hall glowing brighter as your squad bleeds, and you realize this is playing into the spell. You may be running out of time to stop it because of this attack. That said, you are currently under attack, and running ahead without trying to stop the creatures could kill you and the ones you work with.

You gasp as you come back to yourself and shake your head in an attempt to clear it. "Sorry! Sorry! I lost control for a second! I'm fine!" you say, looking up the General.

McNamara pulls out a cigarette and begins to smoke. "That voice in your head telling you to attack won't go away until we get Blinky out of here. You need to focus and control yourself so we can finish this. Think about those you love, and find strength of heart in them. You have a strong soul, Agent [redacted], focus on that, on those that make you strong."

"Why the fuck is Blinky and why does my brain keep saying that name?" You ask the General.

General McNamara looks at you, startled, before approaching you. "There is a voice in your mind saying the name Blinky? What is it telling you to do?" he asks, putting his hands on your shoulders.

"It's telling me to attack you, mostly. I've been able to resist it, though," you explain.

He sighs and steps back. "As far as our research shows, Blinky craves violence. He enjoys watching chaos and bloodshed above all else. That is likely why the voice is suggesting you attack me."

"I would prefer not to do that," you say. "I just don't understand what that has to do with the actress and professor that went missing."

"... A professor has a connection to this?" McNamara asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah, some biology professor," you explain. "Something about his dreams coming true."

The General sighed and looked exasperated. "I have a suspect in mind. He is likely the one behind summoning the Lord in Black here. We need to get in there and put an end to this show. Do you think you can go in there and pretend to be fully under the spell without actually slipping the magic's control? The fact that it is in your mind could be a way for us to get in there without raising suspicion."
