silverborn spoilers ahead
does ornella crow ever long to hold her brilliant yet doomed 9 year old son in her arms. does she use the harsh, cold face as a masquerade. has she gotten so good at doing it that she has begun to fool herself into thinking she doesn't miss her little boy anymore. does she go into the hall of dead crows just to see her baby again, the last remnants she had been allowed to keep
#or did she learn to be colder as she got older and now she saves them the pain🎶 /ref#<- epic the musical ref i love

actually cackling at the first proper interaction between morrigan and squall in silverborn. she's SO sick of his ass she was literally like "oh sorry i wasn't practising the wundrous arts when i didn't know they existed. girl shut the fuck up actually" and he's just like "i'm the original wundersmith. this 13 year old is PISSING ME OFF!!"
the last two living wundersmiths straight up cannot stand each other and it's hilarious to me. actively facing extinction will NEVER stop either of them from hating <3

"I Bet On Losing Dogs" is so Jupiter about Morrigan and Jack. He can't save them from what the world is going to do to them, but he can crouch down next to them and tell them it's going to be alright eventually. Even if he doesn't believe it himself

I heard "To love me is to suffer me" in Ethel Cain's new song and IMMEDIATELY thought of the way Morrigan perceives herself (esp in book 1)

I think the funeral Jupiter refers to in his and Bertram's argument is Mr Smithereens' (as opposed to Rosie's) and here's why:
- The earliest Rosie's funeral could have been is five years ago (assuming it happened when Jupiter's search party was officially disbanded). As much as grudge holding would be very in line with what we've seen of Jupiter and Bertram so far, five years is a long time to hang onto Bertram not coming to that funeral.
- Bertram says "You sound just like..." after Jupiter says things about Bertram getting his life together. Maybe that could have been something Rosie went on about, but they would have been in their late twenties when Rosie disappeared. Not having your life together in your late twenties is a lot easier to wave aside than not having it together in your late thirties. But as Bertram's patron, Mr Smithereens' reputation was likely at least partially tied to Bertram's. If Bertram's life wasn't together, if he wasn't performing as a society member, it would reflect poorly on Mr Smithereens for bringing him into the Society.
- It would be a more personal betrayal in my eyes, than not coming to Rosie's funeral. At Rosie's funeral, Jupiter would have had the rest of Unit 895 to have his back. Even if Bertram wasn't there, there would be less reason for him to still be bitter about it. But if it was Mr Smithereens' funeral, Jupiter and Bertram shared a unique relationship with him that only they shared (even if he had other candidates, they wouldn't be the same age). Bertram not attending Mr Smithereens' funeral could mean that Jupiter was left to mourn alone, and Jupiter could also see it as a betrayal because Bertram took on Mr Smithereens' name, and then couldn't even be bothered to attend his funeral.
- It's not impossible that the loss is fairly recent. You could make the argument that if Jupiter lost his patron in the three years Morrigan has lived with him, we'd know because we would have seen him grieve, but would we really have? Part of Jupiter's job is to lie and conceal. It's very likely that he wouldn't have wanted to burden Morrigan and others with his feelings so he just hid the death. Disguised going to the funeral as some other reason for him to be called away.
So yeah. Feel free to tell me what you think or counter my theory with your own. I'd love to get into discussion

the inflection is exactly the same. I have been thinking about this for an hour. was this on purpose or is this just how people are naturally compelled to say these words in this order (via @biderverse on X/Twitter)
