I’ve been working on a new character design all day and I’m so proud of it! Goes by the nickname Red, and he’s a 75% fire 25% shadow crossbreed based off of  @arianwen44‘s dragon species. I haven’t figured out too much about him yet other than he likes beer, he’s pretty loud in a crowd, and he looooves himself some leather (seriously check out that leather JACKET 👀). I’m looking forward to finishing this one and drawing more of him in future!!

My experiment of the last two days: a new Warrior Cats OC I’m creating for a rp with @arianwen44 and @jacky-luluwrites. She’s a former kittypet named Cream! Working on her was so much fun, especially since it gave me the perfect excuse to play around with Sai a little more! I’m really liking the program so far! A new thing I tried with this one: a colored lineart. I think I like it!

Sneakpeek at a thing I’ve been working on today. It’s creature design concept art for a story I’ve been thinking about turning into a webcomic. For anyone who follows my other works, this is Rokk’s dragon from TDT.

Alright, so things I have learned so far in this dress making process:
Hemming: DO NOT be afraid to use an iron during the hem folding process. Makes life MUCH EASIER and makes the hems stay in place when removing pins while sewing
Attaching the zipper: always leave the bottom inch of the bodice/top inch of the skirt unattached to the zipper so that they can be attached to each other
Taking measurements and drafting out the front panel for the bodice: the distance between the widest horizontal part of the front panel will correspond to the distance between the nipples. DO NOT use that same distance for the bottom of the panel as it will make the dress too big/not fitted right
Questions that have arisen/things that remain to be seen:
When making the waist hole for the skirt, should the measurements I use match the bottom of the bodice? I think so. How to translate the bodice measurement into the skirt measurement considering it’s a half-circle skirt?
What measurements should I have used to make the pattern pieces for the bodice?
How to keep the sleeveless bodice upright ideally without using a lining?? (Yes I know boning should play a part in that, but how do I use it/is it possible to use without lining??)
For the tulle layers for the skirt: is 2x the waist measurement of the skirt enough for a sufficient amount of gathering or should I go 4x the waist measurement?
More general question: how is horsehair braid used (and how could I have incorporated it into this project)?
I may end up starting over and remaking the bodice. I don’t want to start on the skirt because the skirt fabric was considerably more expensive than the bodice fabric, so I don’t want to risk messing it up until I’m certain of how I want to proceed.

Oh to be a young seamstress taking on their first real project! To feel that rush of creativity, of daring, of blood as they pull their hand out of their pin box to find 3 embedded in their finger!! Aaah, today is a glorious day TwT

As a Jo-Ann’s employee, I just wanna add that you should download the Jo-Ann’s App to receive coupons (the app will require you to create an account in order to get the bar codes for the coupons, but you can opt out of receiving email promotions during the signup process—but really why would you when you can double your coupons by getting them through your email too??) and ask us about our text coupons, as this can get you a 20% Off your Total when you first sign up (Sale + Regular Priced items, with some exclusions like items already couponed, clearance, and certain brands). Make sure you’re ready to purchase your items the same day, as this is a one-time offer with a short expiration date!
Also, check with your local Jo-Ann’s about their policy for taking competitors’ coupons! It varies from store to store/manager to manager, but most will take coupons from AC Moore (the best!! Usually has a 55% Off One Regularly Priced Item), Hobby Lobby (almost always a 40% Off One Regularly Priced Item), and Michael’s (Though beware, as some stores will not take Michael’s coupons on fabric—still valuable for things like thread though!). Always verify beforehand and please, please have your coupons loaded and ready to show the cashier before you check out! It’ll save you and your cashier a whole lot of discomfort at the check out and make everyone’s lives a bit easier :)

Note to self
Stop thinking: “I’m not talented enough to execute this concept.” Start thinking: “I’m going to be a stronger artist when I’ve finished this piece.”

A drawing I’m working on for Mer-May! This is my merman OC, Kai, from my book, I Danced Til Dusk! Bit of fun trivia for you: the merfolk in my book have tail types based on actual fish species. A natural-born mer will have the tail of a saltwater fish (ex: lion fish mer, clown fish mer, etc.), but a human changeling like Kai will have the tail of a freshwater fish. Kai has a guppy tail :3

‘Bout time I posted something on this blog! Let’s start off with a screen shot of what I’m currently working on: a sketch of a wolf. I was aiming for a wolf mid-pounce, but I think I’ve ended up with a stalking wolf instead. Oh well, I’m surprisingly pleased with how it’s turning out. The paws are still bothering me though. Any advice?

This is what this blog is going to be all about. First attempts and mistakes, learning how to do new things and just having fun!
If you’re an artist, then this is for you.
This year, I want you to be unapologetic when you create.
Don’t apologize for your writing, drawing, music, designs, films, sculptures, cosplays, knitting, sewing, cooking, and anything else I might’ve missed.
Don’t apologize for the quality.
Stop being afraid of what you can accomplish. You might think you can do so much better, well guess what? You will. You’re always improving. But if you start to apologize for the best you can do at this moment, then you might restrain yourself, stop yourself from taking risks that will help you.
I know this is a hard thing to stop. I do it all the time. When I submit art to people that I’m not so confident about, I’ll apologize in advance.
This year, I challenge you, and myself, to stop doing it.
