Happy St. Jordi's day, Renji! For him, a black and red rose, and! A... ... Oh. ... Renji, how big is your bookshelf? Okay, she uh, may have gotten him a multi-volume set of warrior cultures throughout history-- HOW DID SHE CARRY THAT ALL AT ONCE?
@dripdripdropthebass
Renji considered himself a minimalist - he really did. He could make do with the bare necessities, not really one to indulge in mindless luxuries. But when presented with a massive collection of books from his dear girlfriend, he lamented the fact that he didn't have a big enough bookshelf at home to store all of them.
"Aw damn, now yer gonna make me build a bookshelf to make room fer all of these books. Take responsibility would ya?" Renji teased, giving Juvia a soul crushing hug. "Thank you. Yer the best."
A kiss to the forehead, one on each cheek, and finally one on the lips. "Happy Birthday."

"Of course I woudn't let ya walk home alone! I know this part of town is pretty safe, but I wouldn't allow that," Renji looked at with a scolding glance.
The rhythmic tapping of her boots was the only thing echoing throughout the cold night, save for a couple of cars whizzing by as it passed them. Renji found that he quite liked the silence today - a change from his usual likening for rowdiness and noise, but he really didn't mind this.
He could nearly taste the sweetness of the cake upon his tongue as it was mentioned once more and Renji simply sighed. "I can't choose a favorite," he admitted.
"They were all so good... although that fruit tart with the lemon curd filling, paired with that heavenly fresh cream, and the buttery flaky pastry..." Renji swallowed down the saliva that pooled underneath his tongue. "Oh. I'm salivating," he laughed.
He smirked at the question, placing his hand on top of hers. "Oh Inoue. Ya would never understand the lengths I went to acquire those goddamned tickets!" Renji had essentially used 5 devices, waiting until the sales of those tickets dropped, timing it down to the second, and he was successful in grabbing 2! It seemed a bit embarrassing to admit though.
"I got lucky, ya could say."
The night sky was clear, the moon shining bright as it wasn't obscured by any clouds. Renji shivered, shoving his hands deeper into his pocket and pulling his scarf up higher.
"Thanks fer comin' with me to this event, Inoue," Renji turned to his companion, giving her a little nudge. "I was kinda worried about attendin' by myself, since I thought I'd stick out a like a sore thumb... but I really had fun."
He'd gotten tickets to a desserts expo and he was self conscious about attending alone. So he'd invited Orihime, who he'd gotten to know over the past semester. "I didn't think it'd go this late though, sorry," Renji chuckles sheepishly. @wild-pineapple-butt
A nocturnal vault protruded into infinitude, an expanse of satin-like obsidian pierced by the luminescent glow of a lunar sphere. The lunar disc ascended, splendorous and non-accompanied, a solitary diamantine beacon nestled in the cosmos' vast bosom, its effulgent elegance uncontested by even the slightest veil of cloud. Inoue felt her heart expand with happiness, as ebullient as a zephyr-borne balloon climbing skyward, obtaining solace in the night's crystalline embrace. On such pristine evenings, constellations congregated in a shimmering symposium above her—a spectacle more radiant, ever more evident to her seeking caramel hues.
Her boots tapped out a rhythmic, enchanting cadence upon the tarmac, orchestrating a drumbeat within the gentle silence of the nocturnal world's repose. Delicate digits meticulously secured each button on her soft, rose-tinted coat—armor against the insidious chill of the night's tender breeze. "It’s quite all right." She proclaimed. Her voice twirled through the cool air—a symphony of ebullience—and vibrated with the spectrum of uncontaminated delight. Her infectious excitement propelled forward, as though her feet, imprisoned only momentarily by earthly bonds, yearned to soar alongside her words in their lofty dance. “I adored the red velvet cake; it was sublime.”
The unadulterated dynamism of her gaiety appeared to animate the adjacent darkness, lending her a buoyancy that urged her onto her toes like an ethereal sprite aglow with an energetic spirit. She pleasured in indulging whimsically in confectioneries—as if each had been a saccharine secret intimately confided in her by the cosmos itself. "You wouldn't let a sweet cupcake like myself meander home unescorted." Responded playfully. Her laughter unfurled, weaving through the air, and her tender lips arched into a portrayal of mirth that mimicked a crescent moon upon her countenance. With fluid elegance, she placed her hand upon his shoulder. "However, how did you obtain the tickets?" Inquired with genuine curiosity twinkling in her gaze. "I was quite certain they were unobtainable."

❛ it's okay to lean on others for support occasionally. ❜ //from your caring list prompts, from Byakuya :>
Caring Prompts ||| Accepting
@bleachbrainrotbro
How ironic it was for his captain to be telling him that, when Byakuya was the embodiment of someone shouldering all their burdens upon their own shoulders. It was a little funny to think that this was somehow Byakuya's way of comforting and reassuring him, yet this man didn't think to take his own advice into account.
"And you, Kuchiki-Taichou?" Renji looked up from his paperwork to stare blankly at his captain. "Do ya have someone that ya can lean on when things get rough? Get hard? Do ya allow yerself to have someone like that?"
By asking this question, Renji realizes that he might get lectured or chastised, even be at the mercy of Byakuya's wrath. But he'd come to learn how to speak frankly at times, surprisingly, not always ill received.

PROMPTS FOR FIRST MEETINGS & AWKWARD CHATS
* assorted dialogue for new acquaintances, adjust as necessary
have we met?
i recognize your face from somewhere.
i've seen you before.
i think i've seen you around.
do you do this often?
you look familiar.
what do you do for work?
did you friends abandon you, too?
are you new around here?
feel like dancing?
i think i'd remember a face like yours.
sorry, i don't mean to stare.
i've heard about you.
have you eaten here before?
you certainly get around.
think i saw you last week.
i've just never seen anyone as beautiful as you before.
i've been meaning to introduce myself.
it's really nice to meet you.
you look a little lost.
do you need some help?
wait a second. i know you.
do you come here often?
looks like we're the only ones left.
can i give you my number?
we haven't been properly introduced.
so... what kind of music do you listen to?
i'm sure you hear that a lot.
i don't mean to pry.
let me call you a taxi.
mind if i sit here?
when did you get here?
how long have you lived here?
do you remember me from last time?
do you like living here?
that was a dumb question to ask.
can i buy you a drink?
i hope i didn't scare you.
have you been here before?
i just think you're really pretty.
we met last week!
i didn't mean to interrupt you.
go on with your day!
i could give you a ride home.
feels like we were destined to meet.
would you dance with me?
i'll be just fine.
let's grab a table.
do you want to grab coffee sometime?
could i see you again?
i felt like i should come over here and introduce myself.
you're extraordinary.
i really enjoy talking to you.
we've been talking for hours.
you were sitting alone, so i thought i'd join you.
would you like to come inside?
feel like going for a walk?
is this seat taken?
could we talk inside?
i'd really like to get to know you.
i never know what you're going to say next.
i can't get enough of you.
this is unusual for me.
i'm not used to this.
did i say that outloud?
what do you recommend here?
i love your laugh. it's so unique.
i'll walk you home.
let me call you an uber.
pretty sure i saw you last week.
was that a pick-up line?
i'm sorry if that was too forward of me.

“Okay, I’ll play Mario Party with you, but only if I get to pick the map.” /@thorneprincess
A meme I cannot find anymore... :c
@thorneprincess
"Bet!" Renji grabbed the controllers, handing one over to Akiko. "No matter what map ya choose, I'm gonna show ya what all those hours of practicin' has done!"
Was Renji slightly embarassed over how many hours he'd spent playing this video game? Yes... But was he also too immersed in showing off his skills to truly care about that in this moment? Also yes.

Adelha gives Renji a cherry chocolate cupcake to then give him a kiss on the cheek. "Happy Valentine's Day, Renji."
Valentine's Day (sorry this is late!)
@adelha-mathilde
"Thank you, Adelha..." Renji flushes and smiles softly. He still wasn't super accustomed to human traditions, but it was nice to pull the brakes on work and celebrate the small things sometimes.
"I got ya somethin' too." He pulls out a rectangular box, a soft pink in color, delicately wrapped with a matching colored bow.
Inside is a custom made hair ribbon, soft and delicate lace sewn onto the sides. The ribbon is a baby blue, the lace white. In the middle of the bow, there's a small flower, red in color. Somehow, the colors are very much like Adelha and Renji themselves.
"Happy Valentine's Day."

Renji's brows furrow as he stares down at Juvia, confusion settling into his face. "Why, what'reyadoin'?" His attempt to speak is ... highly unsuccessful as his girlfriend holds his cheeks captive.
His eyes narrow at her before he reaches up and squishes Juvia's cheek with one hand. "Ha! Yer'affish!"

"Shush! I know that," Renji hissed. "Why are ya always naggin' at me?" he sighed, exasperated.
He wasn't truly mad at Lyn, but he was rather embarrassed at how many times she had seen him in this sorry state - a state that he wasn't really keen on showing anyone.
Of course, it wasn't in her nature to allow him to walk around with his wounds threatening to turn infected at any time, and honestly, nobody in the 11th seemed to care enough.... So naturally they'd come to have this type of odd relationship where Renji would come back injured and Lyn would end up taking care of him.
they fight like siblings. (cont'd) | @wild-pineapple-butt
"Hey I said what I said, now take it--"
Lyn grumbled once the bandage hit her head. She wanted to grab Renji and shake him a bit. Wound care was serious business.
"Geeze you know you're supposed to change them before they start sticking to the wound and pull the healing stuff off?"
In her hands were new bandages and some salve to help heal them. If she were even half decent at Kaido she'd actually try using it on him, but the last time she tried she actually hurt her adopted father. It... might not be for her.

"No, yer fine," he reassured Byakuya. It was appreciated how his captain had tried to ease his worries, but he didn't know how true those words were.
Renji doubted that he would come to ever like or even appreciate paperwork, even if he kept at it for years. He hated sitting still and hunched over his desk for hours on end, eyes poring over thousands of sheets of paper as the words lost their meaning over time.
"Hmm... 'm not sure that I'd ever come to like it, honestly..." Renji laughed with a sheepish chuckle. "Ya know... 'm not the brightest so a lot of stuff hmm..." he paused for a second, thinking on how to best word it without sounding crude... "a lot of things don't really make sense to me... so I struggle. Gotta read it twice or three times fer me to really understand and then I gotta fill it all out accordingly..." he sighed.
"It just takes a lot of brain power that... uhh well I don't really have..?" he laughs once more. He wasn't trying to self deprecate, but compared to other lieutenants, Renji did lack experience in many areas.
His upbringing in the Rukongai was a meager start, his acceptance to the Academy through his literal blood sweat and tears. He could say, without a doubt, he was at a disadvantage with his peers.
Byakuya let out a soft hum of approval, hearing that Renji did actually listen to him. It was quite the relief that what he was saying wasn’t going in one ear and out the other. He continued walking, hands at his sides. His posture was less stiff, and his face slightly relaxed.
Byakuya realized he was acting differently today, and took his time to analyze his own actions. Was it coming off as awkward…? Renji hadn’t said anything, so maybe not.
“I see. I’ll tell you this…” He stopped walking to look up at the taller man. “When I first started, I didn’t like the amount of paperwork either.” He decided to confide in his lieutenant.
“But I was used to it as clan head. However, that does not mean I liked it. My penmanship was only good because of hours of calligraphy I practiced. Now, having done it for many years now, it’s a little comforting, knowing I can stay in a quiet office and peacefully work.” He paused, before adding, “Well, as peacefully as I can before Kurosaki barges in with another issue.” He let out a small, audible sigh.
“Apologies, I’m straying from the topic at hand. My point was to tell you that it seems boring at first, but after a while, I’m sure you will grow to appreciate it, if not enjoy doing it.”
He slightly smiled at the lieutenant, before starting to walk again.

“We’ve had some good times, haven’t we?”
"Whaddya mean, Hayden?" Renji glances over at the other with a concerned glance. "Somethin' going on? Why's it sound like yer suddenly gonna say goodbye or something, huh?"
With his shoulder, he nudges the other in the side. His feet dangled off the rooftop they were currently sitting on, as the sun blazed high up in the sky.
"Don't ya get all sentimental on me now and turn 'round with something tragic."

"Ya weren't complainin' when I was spinnin' ya around, were ya!?" Renji yelled right back, pointing an accusatory finger at Jewel.
How was it that every single time they hung out, they were always arguing and bickering like some children on a playground.
He glared at her, his lips curled up in disgust as the sight of vomit was visible from his peripheral view. Gross. "Yer food is right there. On the floor. On my shoe. On my uniform. I don't see why I gotta owe ya more food."
@icybreaths continued from here
He looks up at Jewel with a grimace on his face, back down to the vomit and then looks up at her again. To be honest, the sight made him a tiny bit queasy...
"Ya better wipe that grin off yer face - now ya owe me a brand new uniform."
Maybe. Just maybe, it'd been a bad idea to spin her round and round right after they ate.... but Renji would uh... refuse to acknowledge that.

"Dress up... get candy? Eat a bunch of food??" Renji had questions. His furrowed brows were evident of his confused nature. "Uh wait, hold hold on." He held up his hand at her before she could confuse him any further.
"Dress up as what exactly? And get candy? From where? Like we go out and buy it? Or..." The only dressing up he ever did was when he wore formal kimono to attend a fancy party that Byakuya had invited him to. And he hated that. So if that's what he had to do for this so called Halloween, then perhaps he might not be the best person to participate in this holiday.
Halloweenie? (contd) || @wild-pineapple-butt
"…Dress up, get candy, eat a bunch of food… You know, fun stuff!" She always had a costume ready for the season and it took no time at all for her to think of something cool every year. It usually revolved around someone from a rock group, that way she could wow people by playing music. "You ever think of something cool to dress up as and do a contest? Go get candy… I'm really good with make up!"

Renji sighed. He really hadn't been in the mood to be disturbed. He hadn't said anything when she sat down since it didn't seem like she would disturb him, but now that she had started talking, Renji could feel the energy just drain from his body.
He didn't know how to express his discontent without sounding too harsh, so he just kinda grunted in response, hoping she wouldn't continue to make more conversation. Should he just get up and walk away? Would that be deemed too rude...?
After all, he was the one who had sat here first - but then again, he couldn't claim the area to be his own. She had every right to be here as well as he did. Another sigh.
He just leaned back and crossed his arms over his chest, trying to find the peace that had been momentarily disturbed.
@wild-pineapple-butt Ask
Himawari had been approaching Vice Captain Abarai to ask him a question, but hesitated seeing the expression on his face. She turned to walk away, before talking a deep breath and walking back over and talking a seat next to him.
She folded her hands into her lap and took in the scenery, blowing a stray hair out of her face to look at it. The trees moved slightly with a breeze, and the faint sounds of the rest of the every day business amongst Soul Society were behind them.
After about ten minutes of silence, she finally spoke up to say something, awkward and nervously fidgeting with a stress ball she kept in her uniform pocket.
“This is one of my favorite spots - if I couldn’t sleep, it’s a really nice place to watch the sunrise.” She spoke quietly, trying not to disturb.
