- [SAFE AND SECURE] -
[So, this is yesterday. A lone Will sits in his apartment, because why not? He doesn’t have to go to the godforsaken library today, so why not appreciate the fact that he could wallow on his own, huh? Because wallowing he was. Because MAYBE HE HAS SEEN A THOMAS. So, yes, wallowing, my friend. Because he’s dumb like that. He will, in fact, wallow. And let me type wallow one more time for good measure. Wallow.
Anyway, One Miss Emily Stuart has bust onto the scene. (She probably had a key made for herself, tbh), and she flops down in front of a surprised William. (But he really shouldn’t be surprised.)]
Happy birthday, dickhead.
Tumblr media
Ugh. Don’t.
Tumblr media
You’re so weird. What’s your issue with birthdays anyway? What’d they ever do to you?
Tumblr media
You act like I’ve had such great birthdays in my time.
Tumblr media
So you never had a great big birthday party. Oh, no.
My parents don’t give a shit about my birthday. Neither does anybody else. Why should I?
Because it brought you into the beautiful world, William. And clearly I care about your birthday, since I’m here.
Oh, there’s something to be excited about.
Don’t be fucking rude, you ass.
Tumblr media
There’s nothing exciting about this beautiful world. So I should celebrate my entrance into it anyway? No thank you.
Tumblr media
Not even the ~stars are exciting enough for you?
One redeeming quality is not enough.
What’s got you in more of a grumpy mood than usual? Is it just the birthday that ~no-one~ cares about? Or is it something else?
We’re having heart-to-hearts now, are we?
You’ve been a whiny douche ever since you got out of jail. And again, I mean more so than you normally were.
Emily, mind your business, please.
Tumblr media
When have I ever done that?
Tumblr media
It’s always a good time to start.
Is this about that girl?
Emily. Shut up.
It is, isn’t it? Holy shit, dude. You’re being a brat.
Tumblr media
It’s not your place to talk to me about her, okay? You don’t even know anything about it.
Tumblr media
I know you broke her heart because you thought she was ~too good~ for you. I know you tried to kill a guy because he hurt her. I know you’re being a little wimp over the fact that you think she hates you for it.
Tumblr media
It’s more than that, kid. My community service is where she works, and I have to see her all the time, and I have to watch some guy come visit her on her lunch breaks, and watch them talk on our bench, of all things--
Tumblr media
Hold on... Our~ bench? Our bench doesn’t exist, Will. And if she talks to another guy, you shouldn’t be pissed about it, because you’re the one who told her that you two would never happen.
Maybe I didn’t realize how crazy it would make me feel to see her do what I told her to do. Maybe I wasn’t banking on being stuck in that library. And maybe I wasn’t expecting to still give a shit after this long.
So why don’t you just fucking tell her you were lying to her, then????
Tumblr media
Because she doesn’t deserve to hear that from me after everything I’ve put her through. And besides-- it’s doubtful she still feels the same way after all of it.
Tumblr media
You’re so stupid. You clearly care about this girl a lot-- maybe you even love her, and you’re punishing yourself by making sure you don’t get a single ounce of happiness, just because you think you don’t deserve it. God, I hate this family.
What do you want me to do, Emily? What do you want out of me here?
Maybe you need to give the girl a say in this, Will. You’ve never given her a chance. Apologize, and be fucking sincere for the first time in your miserable life, and show her that you care about her. Maybe then you won’t have to worry about being driven insane by seeing her move on.
You want me to throw myself at her, is that it?
I did not say to whore yourself out, no. You know how to be charming, William... when you want to be. Maybe if you do that, but you’re sincere about it-- like, Jesus, just act as normal as a Stuart can work. And let yourself be happy for once.
Tumblr media
Ah, you want me to charm her.
Tumblr media
I want you to act normal. I’m sick of the moping.
Fine. I’ll charm~ her.
Act. Normal.
I’ll act normal! Jesus.
Good. Now that that’s out of the way, I’ve got your birthday present~.
Joy.
[She pulls something out of a her purse (unwrapped), and hands it to him. It is a small card thing, of some sort. Once Will actually reads it, it is, in fact, a Monopoly card. You know the one. The get out of jail free card. Oh yes.] Just in case, ya know~.
Tumblr media
Oh, how thoughtful of you.
Tumblr media
I’m nothing, if not considerate, cuz.
Aren’t you the greatest?
I so am.

- [SAFE AND SECURE] -
You’re joking. Dad, tell me you’re fucking joking.
Tumblr media
I’m not. I already told you you’re getting off easy with this shit. So maybe be a little grateful?
Tumblr media
Can’t my community service be done somewhere else?
I’m not your great-grandmother. I don’t care to make demands like she does. You’ll deal with what’s given to you.
I’m not doing my community service at the library.
Fuck’s sake. You like books and reading and shit. I figured you’d enjoy that over picking trash up off the side of highway.
Tumblr media
How many days a week is this?
Tumblr media
Three?
I’m not fucking doing it.
Unfortunately, kid, you don’t have a choice. Unless you want more trouble.
[Will mumbles to himself that it’ll be trouble at the library.]
How much trouble can you get into at a library? Unless you plan on beating the shit out of the old librarian ladies.
Tumblr media
That’s not the point, no.
Tumblr media
Well, deal with it. Like I said, you don’t have a choice, and you’re not in position with the ~authorities to negotiate. Whatever your problem is, you’ll have to get over it.
[Will runs a hand down his face, because why, out of all the places, did they pick the place where FLORA FENTON worked for him to do his service in? Honestly, he would’ve rather picked up trash on the side of the road than have to spend hours there knowing the things he knew. (IE; how she probably really doesn’t want to look at his face. But ya know.)] Whatever. Fine. I have no choice. I’ll ~deal~ with it.
Thatta boy.

- [SAFE AND SECURE] -
[Two weeks-- two weeks which felt like an eternity, and somehow none of it fazed him the way it probably should have. Being on the inside hadn’t really mattered to him, and even when he thought he was going to be spending a long time in there, it never bothered Will. It wasn’t nearly as scary as the media would make it out to be. Not to him, anyway. Maybe it was because he didn’t feel like he had any reason to be upset or afraid by the fact he was in there. He still felt vindicated in his reasons, despite the tears and anger of the person he did it for. He never thought she’d be happy about it. She was too good of a person to find joy in the fact that anyone had gotten hurt-- even someone that hurt her.
And sure-- she was probably right to decide to not forgive him. If there was anybody worth giving up on, it was somebody from his bloodline. He had too much Lee-Roth in him. His Great-Grandmother’s pride in what he’d done proved that point. If he was anything like Mai, or Mayson, or anybody too completely fucked up from that side-- yeah, he definitely deserved to be alone forever. And maybe, just maybe, he deserved to be locked up.
But, as he was being told now by one of the guards, his time was up, and his family was outside waiting for him to take him home. (His own home, he hoped. He only had hope in the matter that this so-called ‘probation’ didn’t include having to live with his family.)
He was lead out, and before he could make it out fully into the room where they were to discuss probation terms, his mother was waiting on the outside.]
I don’t want to alarm you, but someone else decided to join me.
Tumblr media
The old man decided to actually show up, did he?
Tumblr media
Not exactly...
Tumblr media
Then who?
Your... great... grandmother.
What?
She’s in there right now, discussing your probation.
You’re kidding me.
I’m not. And she’ll be wondering what’s taking us so long.
[Anais cocks her head to the door, and the two of them go inside. Will is met with the sight of an ancient Mai leaned over a table, talking to a couple of men in suits who look like they’ve had the fear of God (Mai?) put in them.]
What I’m trying to tell you, is this is hardly an offense worthy of what you’ve placed on the boy. Teenagers fight all of the time. Are we supposed to put every teenager that punches another person in jail?
Mrs. Lee-Roth--
Madam.
-- Madam Lee-Roth, the victim almost died.
He did not die. There isn’t even any permanent damage. You are taking this too far.
[At this point, Madam Lee-Roth had noticed Will and Anais had entered the room, so she looked at her great-grandson and patted the seat next to her. Will, of course, really did not wANT to take the seat next to Mai, but Anais nudged him with her elbow, and so he went.]
As an elected official of this state, I am appalled that you would treat my great-grandson in such a manner. As with the entirety of the Lee-Roth family, he is an upstanding individual. One lapse in judgement is not enough for the treatment he has received. I could have jobs removed for this.
Madam, he is already getting out of prison. Probation is going to happen, despite what an elected official wants. You cannot change the law.
[Mai does this scary thing with her eyes. Will notices, Anais notices, the men in suits notice. They seem to be saying ‘Yes, yes I can change the law. Watch me.’ Everybody gets the picture.]
Conditions. House arrest would be absurd, he doesn’t need any mandated court dates, probation officers do nothing, and he’s allowed to leave the state if he wants to. Are we clear?
Fair enough, Madam. However, should something like this happen again, he will, in fact, be breaking these terms, and he will be back here, and even you cannot get him out.
Of course. He won’t be doing anything like this again. Isn’t that right, William?
[Will just nods his head, because JESUS CHRIST, THIS WOMAN.]
And community service. He’s not getting out of that.
Oh, for fuck’s--!
That is fine. [Mai had put a hand up to silence him.] Are we finished here?
[The men in suits looked piSSED off at this situation, but also weary, because yeah, scary government Mai. So, they nodded, and they handed out some papers to be signed, and only a few minutes later, William was free to go. So, Will, Anais and Mai all make their way towards the door. Will sees the dang sunshine as a free man for the first time in two weeks, and boy it feels great.
They get in the car (He gets to go to his apartment!), and Mai looks back at him from her place in the front seat.]
Next time you’re trying to beat someone to death, try not to do it in front of a bar. Alleys usually do well enough.
[There was no sign in her face or voice that she was joking, and without another thing said, she turned back around. Yeah, Will was actually a little shook by that, because his family was NUTS, MAN.
But, he had to be thankful. Maybe? She got him out, though he didn’t necessarily care to be gotten out? He was out. Sure, he didn’t know what kind of community service he was going to have to end up doing, but he was going to have to end up doing it, and that wouldn’t be a great time, but hey, at least he’d be able to get to live his life again, right? Joy. Rapture.]

What the hell are you doing here?
Tumblr media
Show your old man some respect, would ya?
Tumblr media
I wouldn’t.
I could leave your ass to rot in this jail for the rest of time, if you’d prefer that.
It’s cozy.
Stop getting comfortable then, because your mom would be pissed if I actually did that.
Tumblr media
Yeah, I’m sure she’d be crushed.
Tumblr media
I thought we’d mentioned respect.
We sure did. Anyway. Moving on. I assume you didn’t come just because you missed me, so what do you have to tell me?
Mai and Mayson have made a few calls--...
Threats, you mean.
Tumblr media
They said calls, I’m sayin’ calls, okay?
Tumblr media
Sure~.
As I was trying to say, they’ve apparently reached the right people. They said within a few days at most they should be able to get you out of here, on the condition of probation.
Probation? Seriously?
You almost murdered a guy. I’d say that’s getting off easy. Wouldn’t you?
Tumblr media
Oh, aren’t I the luckiest guy alive?
It’s better than nothing. Don’t be a little asshole.
Sorry. It’s in my blood.
Kid, I’m not joking. I will tell your great-grandma to screw it all.
But what about Mom~~?
She can visit you here.
Fucking hell, fine. I’m grateful, thanks for all the help, yadda, yadda...
Tumblr media
Better.
Tumblr media
What exactly will this probation entail?
No fighting, for one. Or else your ass is back in jail.
Mmph, yeah, easy enough.
Probably some form of community service. Sorry about it.
Tumblr media
Fuck’s sake.
Tumblr media
Yeah, well, that’s what you get.
Right~. Are we done here?
Guess so.
Awesome. I guess I’ll be seeing you when I’m a free man.
Probably. Though, your mom will probably be the one to come pick you up.
Joy unspeakable.
Bye, kid.
Yeah, alright.

but just imagine an 89 yr old Mai hearing her great-grandson almost murdered a guy.
Mai: This... THIS is how I know this boy has my blood.  Emerson: He doesn’t have any, Grandma. Mai: He’s my great-grandson. Emerson: Mom was adopted, Grandma. Mai: HE HAS MY BLOOD. Emerson: ... Yeah, whatever.

- [SAFE AND SECURE] -
[He had hardly been back in his cell when he was told he had YET ANOTHER visitor. He was never this popular outside of jail, and no, he didn’t really feel like talking to anyone else today.
Again, his mother was expected, and again, he was surprised when it wasn’t his mother sitting on the other side of the glass, but his cousin Emily. With a sigh of exasperation, he sat down and picked up the phone.]
What do you want?
Aunt Anais sent me. She couldn’t get away from work.
Sounds about right.
Don’t shoot the messenger, dick.
Hmph.
But, before I tell you what she wanted me to say, I have my own question.
Tumblr media
I have no choice but to listen.
Tumblr media
I got here a while ago. They told me you were already seeing someone. Now, I knew none of our family came through here to talk to you, so, of course, I was confused. Who could be coming to see you? After a little bit of waiting, a girl was rushing out-- brunette, really sweet face, pretty-- but crying hysterically. Then they told me you were done after she was gone. Who might that have been, Will?
Tumblr media
None of your business.
It was that girl, wasn’t it? The one ‘too good’ for you.
Emily, shut up.
Is that what all of this was about? Her? Did that guy you halfway-murdered do something to her?
You got all of that from a crying girl leaving a prison?
I’m smarter than you give me credit for.
Tumblr media
Yes to all above questions, if you must know.
Tumblr media
Why’d she look so upset when she left?
I gather she’s a little disappointed in me~.
What? She didn’t want to swoon at your noble act of attempted murder~? What kind of world are we living in?
Tumblr media
Oh, fuck off.
Lemme guess. You expressed no remorse, and she’s pissed off at you because she’s a tiny, precious flower that dislikes violence?
I repeat: fuck off.
Can’t. I’m here on business.
Then talk business, and stop making deductions, Sherlock.
Aunt Mayson was offended that Uncle Em even asked, of course.
Shocker.
But then he threatened to tell various media outlets about things that Thana has done, and, after cursing him out and telling him what a disgrace to the Lee-Roth family he was, she said she’d begrudingly help.
Joy.
She said she wouldn’t promise speed, so don’t expect to be out in the next few days, or anything.
Why would I ever~?
Get this, though. Great-Grandma Mai is getting involved.
You’re joking. That insane, ancient woman?
Uncle Em said she looked strangely proud.
Tumblr media
Fucking weirdo.
Tumblr media
Anyway, that’s the current news. Mayson and Mai are working on it, so don’t get comfortable, I guess.
Christ. Sure.
Want some advice?
Nope.
Too bad. You’re getting it. Maybe once you get outta here, say you’re fuckin’ sorry for trying to dole out the justice, Bruce Wayne.
Tumblr media
Except I’m not sorry.
Tumblr media
Try to be. [And with that, Miss Emily puts the phone down without a goodbye, and strolls tf out.]

Conversation
Do You Hear the Muffins Crumbling?
Flora: So she thought to let him speak first, as there wasn’t much for her to say at this point–other than speak her mind, which would not be a good thING. Her lips pressed to a thin line, she could only think of his words, which were now reflected back to her, she was too good for him. Otherwise he wouldn’t have done the things he had done. So with a frown she, she allowed her eyes to catch his gaze, and understand.
Will: [When he was told he had a visitor, he immediately assumed it was his mother again, bringing some kind of unwanted information about things that his Aunt Mayson might have said. However, when he was brought out, he was shocked and kind of upset when he saw Flora on the other side of the glass. He gave her this look like "whY?" as he sat down. He picked up the phone as she did the same, and when she said nothing, he let out a sigh.] What are you doing here?
Flora: [She didn't answer immediately, and then the thought occured that she may have been pressed for time, so there is a tiny shrug, and if she hadn't already looked sad, she is looking a little extra sad, as she's taken aback with that form of greeting.] I had to see for myself. When I read the paper, I thought... [Shaking her head at herself rn.] I thought no way but... [She stops.] What are you doing here, Will? [And for once in her lifetime there is an angry tone in Muffin's tiny vOICE.]
Will: [He shrugs a big ole nonchalant shrug.] If you read the paper, you already know what I'm doing here, Flora. [Angry Muffin tone fazes him not.]
Flora: [So she nods, yes, she knew, and now apparently wasting her time as she already knew. there's a moRE angry tone, and now she's sighing] I wanted to see you, Will. I didn't want it to be true, but you're just proving me wrong. [There's a pause.] Why did you do it?
Will: [HE'S ANGRY TOO, JOIN THE CLUB, FLORA.] Because that worthless piece of--... [He takes a deep breath in and out again.] Because of what /he/ did.
Flora: [There's a frown, and don't remind me of what happened Will Stuart. Don't remind me of what happened to /me/ and don't remind me that I'm going to be the reason why you're in there, so she sits up and has to ask.] And do you feel justified? [She is shaking her head at him, with an even hurt face.] Do you think that this has made anything better? [And there it is a look in the damn eye, straight up peircing soul shit from Flora Fenton.] For me. [Emphasis times fifteen million.]
Will: [He does nothing but turn his gaze away from her. Because, while he definitely felt justified when he thought the guy was going to be dEAD, he doesn't anymore, but he's not going to air that particular thought, because he sees that she's already angry. BUT, he can't find it in him to be upset that she's angry with him. BECAUSE, YEAH, WAIT, NO. IT IS JUSTIFIED. Because the guy did something WAY worse than what Will did. So he doesn't answer Flora's questions, because fight me.]
Flora: [There you have it. Flora is now completely upset, because look at Will. He can't even look at her, and if he truly believes that he is justified, there was no way she could ever agree to that. So that's when the tears begin, because no, surely the biker guy had done something terrible, that would forever scare the poor girl. The damage, as it seemed would not be fading away, but what Will did, activiely seek out, and hurt someone on purpose. Well she didn't see a difference, now, she couldn't.] When will you stop being so... [And let's throw in a break down, because she wanted to say disappointingly right, but she couldn't bring herself to, especially through all the tears.]
Will: [He still couldn't bring himself to look at her; especially when he could hear her crying over the phone. He didn't want her to cry, and he didn't want her to feel the way she was feeling, but he /couldn't/ feel bad about his own decisions. He didn't regret it at all, even sitting in a jail, he couldn't do it. So, finally, /FINALLY/, he turns back to look at her deaD IN HER CRYING EYES.] Whatever the end of that question was going to be, let's just say that the safe answer is 'I won't'. And maybe /now/ you'll believe me about what I've said.
Flora: [She did. She believed him, and it hurt her even more, him affirming it all, but crying, blubbering upset, and hurt beyond repair Flora had no filter.] Who are you? [So there's a PAINful expression, which surely Will doesn't even notice because he's being Will.]
Will: [He shrugged, and his eyes turned away again, because he's not a ROBOT, JERICA. HE UNDERSTANDS DIFFERENT EXPRESSIONS AND THEIR MEANINGS. So, yeah, the pain in her face doesn't make him feel good, but he can't do anything about that now, because what would he even attempt to do? What was done was done, and he couldn't change it, and nothing he could say would make Flora feel better.] The same guy I've always been, Flora.
Flora: [So parrish you're right about that, there was nothing he could say to make her feel any better, and she's realized this, and she's tired of crying in front of Will, as she'd now decided, that he was not worthy of her tears. Not if he was going to be this cruel, and surely not if he were right all along. And the glimmers of hope have passed, and she's no longer wishing Will would do anything but upset her.] I will... [there was a huff, and a momentary clearing of her tears.] never [again a clearing to where it's all just sniffles.] forgive you for this. [And so slowly but surely she takes that phone and hangs it up before staring at him if only for a moment. Yes, there are some moRE crying and then she gets up to leave and i'm done with you.]
