Even after knowing Silas for so long, he still found ways to surprise her with his sheer stupidity. For once in their relationship, she wasn't focused on the money he was counting so much as the lack of Poppy with him. Willa was torn between throwing the biggest fit of her life and waiting him out. How long could he keep this up?
She stared at him as he turned away from her, and headed for the door. The toxicity between them was as much her fault as it was his, but... was he actually looking for a fight? What else could be the point of keeping Poppy away?
"Where the fuck do you think you're going?" She asked dryly, moving quickly to put herself between him and the exit. "Did you think I just... wouldn't notice that my daughter isn't here? Tell me you didn't leave her with your fucking grandparents."
The passive-aggressive bullshit had disappeared and was now replaced by full-blown anger. This was her worst nightmare. Not dying, not losing her job, but this. Him realizing he could easily take her away and make sure she never saw her again. He had the means, she didn't.
"We're going to get her. Now."

"This month's pay is there in cash, twenties like you wanted, and the rest of the supplies, as per our agreement."
Silas, however, was missing a vital part of their truce. He'd come alone, the clack of his own shoes in her home and no echoing thump to chase them on the rare occasion they intruded. Their daughter had not come with him despite the arrangements they had come up with.
The matter had always been delicate considering the boundaries set by Silas' former guardians who looked over him now only as an asset they needed to handle. Upon the news that whether they liked or not, Silas and Willa would be bound to each other indefinitely for eighteen years, they did what they could to sever it. Paper, pen, and thin text blurred by walls of text signed away Willa's engagement. What they failed to consider was Silas interfering, and some days he wished he hadn't.
His devotion to Willa was rooted in keeping his secrets, that in turn kept hers, that kept their daughter between them. It was a push and pull that had settled in a tug on both ends, and any shifting would break it right from the middle.
But it didn't come without their attempts to see if they could switch the upper hand, and Silas often challenged the little sway he did have. Upon the arrival of his end of the bargain, he'd kept Poppy away this time because their terms and conditions challenged the haven Willa's hush money provided. It wilted its edges, cracked it's foundation ever so slightly. Now that he'd gotten better at hiding his own affliction, he was just as good at keeping his daughter hidden away from it too.
Moving to the door, a heavy sigh carried out as his goodbye. There was a slight faith in believing that the heaven sealed in his package would be enough to distract her from what was missing, and he'd be able to leave without the question of Poppy returning home to her that evening.

It wasn't unusual for Willa to make very bad decisions whenever Poppy was off enjoying weekends of fun with her father. It was a mixture of being able to completely let go, without fear of repercussion, and of being completely miserable without her kid. Part of her wished she could partake in whatever fun, fancy activity the two of them had planned, but she was self-aware enough to know that it would only ruin her daughter's fun. She and Silas would get into an argument, which would end with her storming away and she couldn't do that to Poppy. There were some things she didn't need to see.
She was out on a walk, trying to clear her mind and not obsess over what they were doing without her when she almost got hit by a truck that attempted to blow through his stop sign. Almost absentmindedly, she flipped the driver off and continued on her way. Except, the driver, visibly, was also having a terrible day and decided to give her a little bit of a scare by suddenly accelerating in her general direction.
She barely had time to register what happened next. One minute she was running and the next her neighbor was pulling her to safety. "Where did you even come from?" She managed to say as she tried in vain to catch her breath. Her cardio was terrible. To be fair, she had been so distracted by everything else going on in her that it wasn't too surprising that she hadn't noticed him. She couldn't help but chuckle, a nervous habit of hers. "Yeah, that was my fault. I might've flipped him off, like, a minute ago. My bad."

ON THE STREETS open
Walking along the sidewalk, Wyatt glances around him as he shoves his hands into his pockets. At least tonight he's decent enough to get himself home without having to call Lola to pick his stupid ass up. He feels like he's done enough of that the last few months so it made him go a little easier on the liquor tonight. He turns his head to see someone standing in the middle of the road, walking away from a truck. He furrows his brows in confusion, deciding not to think much of it he turns to start walking until he hears an engine roar and a figure running towards him.
"Oh shit," he grumbles.
He turns to start running along side of the person. "What the hell is happening?" He yells over the noise. "Come on... over here." He reaches out and grabs the other's arms, pulling them as he makes a sharp left to get them into a small alleyway.

TW DRUG ADDICTION.
陇 Once upon a time, Willa's life was very different from what it is now. She grew up in a middle-class, respectable family, and had very ambitious dreams for herself. She was around five years old the first time she told her parents she wanted to be a doctor. From that point on, she did everything in her power to make that happen for herself.
陇 All through elementary school and high school, Willa was known as the goody-two-shoes who was in too many clubs and too many extracurriculars. People thought she was a bore, basically, but she had a goal in mind and never strayed from it.
陇 She got into university easily and even managed to snag a scholarship for herself. Quickly, though, it became obvious that whatever she had been doing so far wasn't going to cut it there. While she had always been the smartest in the room wherever she went so far, she was suddenly surrounded by other overachievers like herself and that's when things started spiraling out of control.
陇 It was her roommate at the time that first introduced her to Adderall, selling it as an innocent way to stay focused and stay awake (two things that were becoming harder and harder to do for Willa). One pill turned into two and two turned into five and the next thing she knew the drug had taken over her life. She wasn't taking it for her studies anymore, she was taking it for the high.
陇 Willa started neglecting everything else in her life and, around the same time, met Silas on campus. He quickly became just as addictive as the drugs were, the two of them getting caught up in a very toxic relationship.
陇 A year deep in her addiction, she was kicked out of school for failing too many classes and, eventually, she was cut off by her family who had tried everything they could think of to help her. She got a job at The Tipsy Whale to sustain her addiction and a shitty apartment, but her dream of becoming a doctor? It pretty much died right there and then.
陇 To make matters worse, she kept seeing Silas and, being the irresponsible mess that she was, ended up pregnant. The pregnancy was enough to make her quit drugs cold turkey. No matter the state of her life, she wanted her baby to be healthy and she thought that maybe this could be a new beginning.
陇 Things are never that simple. Silas wasn't around much thanks to his pretentious family and raising a newborn while working a shitty job wasn't easy. One thing led to another and she was back to using. This time, however, she's much more strategic about it. She never goes too far and never lets other people see her looking out of sorts. Her worst nightmare is losing her kid.
陇 To feed her expensive habit, Willa has started blackmailing Silas, who still comes around every once in a while despite the NDA she signed and his grandparent's disapproval. He either provides the pills for her or she spills his secrets. 陇 Every morning, Willa wakes up and tells herself that today is the last day and that she's going to quit, but she can't quite bring herself to follow through with that. She's a good mother and Poppy, her three-year-old, is well-cared for, but she's a shell of her former self and she hated herself for it.
