Eurovision 2025 Tier List
My takes are going to be wrong. Very wrong.
Winner: Erika Vikman. Enough said. Do you need any more explanation?
Runners-up: JJ's voice, the Swedish sauna boys, and Louane all bubble just under the winner's spot. Belgium's always been a favorite, and I love Luxembourg's staging and concept. And then of course, there's Malta "serving." (The entire audience had better scream "Kant", and the EBU had better not censor them.)
Rounding out the top: Lots of great staging helps these acts, especially Ukraine, Norway, and Latvia. Spain and Albania really bring the musicality. Gotta throw the Milkshake Man in there, too.
Middle of the pack: Perfectly fine ballads from host Switzerland, Italy, and Greece. The UK may actually score some points this year with Remember Monday. Iceland and Germany bring the party bangers. (To be frank, the only reason I'm not ranking Iceland higher is because I know the jury and public will shaft them. But in my heart, they belong in A-tier.)
Happy to be there: I'd like to see Armenia, Poland, Lithuania, Cyprus, Czechia, and Denmark qualify, for sure. The songs aren't as strong as the ones above it, but they've got good qualities when it comes to staging (Armenia, Poland, Cyprus), vocals (Czechia, Denmark), or pure passion (Lithuania).
Thanks for playing: "Laika Party" is only okay; it's going to be hard for anything from Ireland to live up to Bambi Thug, and while it's poor form to compare, I can't help it. Meanwhile, we need to stop feeding into the Tommy Cash craze. Azerbaijan, Georgia, Slovenia, Montenegro, and Serbia's songs are just fine. And while Portugal and The Netherlands were my favorites for a bit, their songs have cooled on me in the days before the contest. And San Marino... Bring back Flo Rida. Or give Megara another shot.
As for the elephant in the room, I think Israel's song this year is even worse than "Hurricane". "New Day Will Rise"... For who? Give me a goddamn break.
Anyway, see you all tomorrow for the mess!

?????? rich people are losing it

it is tdov, send us your favorite trans/nb/queer artists and bands
hello. it's will from no soap radio. march 31 is trans day of visibility, which is a very important day for uplifting trans, non-binary, queer, and lgbtqia+ voices from all over the world. (i mean every day is a day to do this but today is an especially big day.)
i procrastinated getting my shit together for this year, but because it is always a good time to boost lgbtqia+ artists, here is the call for you to send your favorite lgbtqia+ artists to no soap radio. we would love to feature them/you. no soap radio is run by queer folks (aka one aging bi guy with a chip on his shoulder) and therefore featuring other queer folks is a mission near and dear to our hearts (aka my heart.)
this stupid world wants to stamp out voices that don't conform to a heteronormative structure or viewpoint. fuck em! they live in fear of our immense power and would rather destroy the whole world with their ketamine-addled whims than give us an inch, so we must give each other a mile. (i'm not sure if that made any sense but we're going with it folks. just lemme have this.)
again: please, send your favorite lgbtqia+ artists and bands to no soap radio. and let us continue to fight against militant heteronormativity and fascism everywhere. okay. thank you.

unlocked a new internet badge the other day folks (suggested on reddit that i might throw hands at congressman james comer for wanting to transfer all congressional power to donald trump and then being a petulant asshole by refusing to answer questions about his bill, and then reddit gave me a warning for mentioning violence or whatever. sorry i expect better from my government and don't want my country to completely backslide into a fascist hellhole run by stupid incompetent lazy monster people, REDDIT. sorry i don't have the patience of a saint like other people and might be driven mad by the capitulation to authoritarian rule, REDDIT. SORRY that i see red and go to a dark place as mindless cretins in control of our country's inner working are forcing acceptance of and creating consent for isolationism, capitalism, genocide, xenophobia, transphobia, and bigotry wholesale, REDDIT! GOD! DAMMIT!)
anyway i guess i will just post about that sort of thing on here then. let them come for me and my thoughtcrimes

I don't see people talking about this so today is the 110th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, in where the factory owners locked working women and girls inside to "eliminate the risk of theft" (in reality it was too keep them from taking breaks), which resulted in the gruesome deaths of 123 mostly immigrant women and girls and 23 men, many of whom jumped to their deaths from the ninth floor either in a panicked attempt to escape or in order to die quickly. There were reports that some of the workers were on fire already as they jumped.
The eighth floor of the building was able to telephone the tenth floor to warn them about the fire, but the factory on the ninth floor where these women and girls labored had no such communication and such warning.
The factory owners were criminally charged with manslaughter for actions that contributed to the mass deaths but acquitted. However, this tragedy led to mass sympathy to the labor movement, and unions spurred on safety regulations that passed in New York state and eventually the entire country, and activists were able to reduce child labor in the process.
This tragedy is a reminder that has been forgotten in the 110 years since: every safety regulation-- every scrap of paperwork contributing to the hundreds of pages of red tape people like to complain about--every word of it was written in the blood of a laborer.

#may have added this one to no soap radio's latest and certifiable bangers playlist #please people for the love of god give talented artists their flowers or at the very least their 1000 streams so they can get some cold hard coin! #also i know there are two songs titled "wake up" next to each other but that's how the flow worked best!
okay, i am posting the spotify link directly in an attempt to get to 1,000 streams so they pay me. this is my weird girl rap song, the... fifth one I ever made, I think? I recorded in my house on my laptop and edited it myself.
everyone kept streaming it through tumblr though, which, peace and love and thank you so much, but i gotta get to 1k or spotify doesn't give me any money and this song is literally about making money. i'm too scared to film myself and promote it on Instagram and tiktok so tumblr is all I have. godspeed. ignore this if you hate the song and think it's stupid i truly don't care for your opinion. this one is for the people with kind hearts and well meaning constructive criticism only. 💯

reblogging from the other blog because i had the incredible fortune to see matt farley live in concert and i am going to yell about it forever. ok! also go follow no soap radio blog for music. thank you.
cambridge blessed with the presence of the legendary matt farley

today is a sort of half "new music" post, as i would like to regale you all with a post about the legend that is matt farley and the banger of a show he and his band of friends performed at the world-famous cantab lounge in cambridge, massachusetts on march 21st, 2025.
but will, you ask, who in the world is matt farley? you have heard of him whether you know it or not. he is the man who has written over 25,000 songs, mostly about poop, cities and towns, household items, names, and celebrities. he has also written many "no jokes" songs under band names such as moe's haven, caniko tucci, the big heist, and more. he has also written and directed incredible films such as don't let the riverbeast get you!, local legends, heard she got married, heard she got murdered, slingshot cops, and my personal favorite, monsters, marriage, and murder in manchvegas. he has also written a creativity guide called the motern method which has helped this stalwart writer immensely in recent times.
and so you would think, gee why haven't i heard of matt farley if he's done so much? well, because the world simply doesn't appreciate good art.
in any case, i had the great fortune to farley's show at the cantab. farley spent the pre-show talking with every patron at the bar as he is a man of the people. his band - made up of bassist chris "pete" peterson, guitarist tom scalzo, and drummer doug "froggy" brennan - got to work preparing diligently for the show while farley worked the crowd. (i got the chance to chat with farley a bit, and he informed me that i was in a few shots of his film local legends: bloodbath, which is of course the long-awaited sequel to 2013's local legends.)
anyway, the show began with a bang, as farley and band led the crowd in classics such as "poop into a wormhole", "my goldfish dead", and the moes haven hit "dig in!", as well as a rousing tribute to cambridge which quoted good will hunting, much to the delight of the fans including myself. many of farley's songs have been released under various names on spotify and other streaming services, but this has never deterred his allegiant followers (who, as farley insisted later on in the show, are NOT in a cult.)

perhaps you have seen videos of other very famous bands performing in major stadiums. u2 at the la coliseum on the joshua tree tour when they were dubbed the biggest band in the world. the rolling stones' voodoo lounge. queen at wembley. few four-piece bands these days hold a candle to those titans of yore. and yet farley in his gold jacket had all the star power of bono, mick jagger, and freddie mercury combined, dazzling the crowd with his antics and stories and getting them involved in the show, while the band behind him performed effortlessly with all the expert musicianship of artists who have worked the stage for years.
other songs farley and the band performed touched on the fallibility of the human mind ("i forgot what i was gonna say"), the power of blotting away mistakes and forgiveness ("the bleach song (i use bleach!)"), the constant and merciless passage of time ("used to be a pizza hut"), the forces acting upon this world without our knowledge ("the mothman song (believe in the power of the mothman!)"), and of course, a song about a pickle sandwich (appropriately titled "pickle sandwich".)
the crowd which packed the basement of the cantab remained high energy throughout the two-hour extravaganza of music. but the excitement for this show has been high since farley announced it months before. it was part of a three-night tour across new england (dubbed as farley and band's longest tour ever) with shows in portsmouth new hampshire, cambridge, and the mass college of art in boston. and those showing up to these performances are bringing their a-game, as they love farley's work and are not afraid to show it. i certainly was rocking out to "plow guy hit my garage" (the song that introduced me to farley's work.)
the show ended with rousing renditions of "it's ok to break the law if you have good intentions" and the regular live favorite "i'm in no kind of rush to go home." and after the final song the audience certainly was not rushing out the door; they stuck around to take pictures with farley and the band, peruse the stacked merch table filled with farley's albums, books, and films, and also chat with each other and make new friends. it truly was a night full of fun and friendship, beautiful art, and a celebration of creativity and life itself.
and selfishly, for this writer, it was a fantastic way to kick off a birthday weekend.
anyway, as always, matt farley is releasing new music as we speak. throughout the entirety of 2025, he is putting out a new "no jokes" release each month. so far each release has been under one of farley's different artist names. january's was matt motern manly man's what we wanna remember. february's was brennan mcfarley's february files, a collaboration with doug "froggy" brennan. and march's was caniko tucci's a genre of different wonders. it behooves you to go peruse each release and then the rest of matt farley's works immediately.
so that's all for this post, as i'm still recovering from rocking out so hard, frankly. sometimes i wonder how rockstars such as farley do it. the endurance and creative spirit of the true entertainers of this world know no bounds. goodbye for now

maybe it's because my birthday is soon and maybe it's because of the world and maybe it's because of my mid-life crisis and maybe it's because i always think about my younger and more vulnerable years around this time of the season
but when i was a little kid i used to imagine that i had a laser sword which i would use to cut down my enemies and all horrible and cruel and bigoted people of the world. like if you sucked or were mean to my friends or were a shitty evil asshole i would think about whipping out the laser sword and chopping you down at the knees and walking away without a second glance as you squirmed screaming on the ground, kneeless, like a chump
and yeah maybe that didn't get me many friends and yeah maybe people still called me a loser and yeah maybe it was weird and a sign of undiagnosed anger issues or adhd or autism or all of the above. but it got me through the day and helped me cope a little bit with the injustices of the world that i couldn't do a damn thing about
and folks, let me tell you something. i am turning thirty-four years old this year which is an ancient age and too far along in life to be writing things like this especially on a website such as tumblr dot com. but even now, yes, i am sitting here at my desk looking out over the pond in my backyard, thinking about the great things in life that got me to where i am today. maybe it's not in a place of great creative or financial or physical satisfaction, but the journey still continues. the end is not yet in sight; in fact the middle isn't even within reach. things are still beginning and for the first time in a very long time i think i'm quite happy, or at least content with my current path
and yet, friends, that laser sword is still itching at my back and it feels incredibly tangible right now
