one thing funny about deltarune is that the town residents are only endearing npcs bexause we know them from undertale, where they had character development. without undertale, the residents of deltarune town are just weird mundane suburban folks who kinda suck in really mundane ways. like asgore is just a divorced dad who's kind of annoying, sans is just a convenient store clerk who fucks your mom, alphys is just an ineffective teacher and undyne is just a crazy cop, and all the various monster kids are just cliquey kids who exclude the weirdos like kris and susie, etc.
and like, kris, being someone who doesnt have the context from undertale, would see the town for the mundane sucky suburbs that it is, which is why the dark world makes sense as an escapist fantasy where they can go on cool adventures, make friends, and be heroes
