My mother is currently speaking at the United Nations meeting in NYC to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. How far we’ve come and how much there still is to do to ensure that children’s rights are respected everywhere.

Yesterday, Queen Silvia was in New York for the United Nations to participate in the General Assembly on the occasion of the CRC’s 25th anniversary.

On that day 25 years ago, on 20 November 1989, the General Assembly adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child . On the occasion of the jubilee a meeting was held at the UN headquarters in New York. During the day, they discussed what has been done for children since 1989, difficulties in the realization of children’s rights and future challenges. From Sweden participated besides the Queen, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven as well as children, the elderly and Gender Asa Regnér.The Jubilee Day at the UN headquarters was launched by UNICEF ambassadors and artists who took part in a global initiative to engage people for children’s rights. Among others, attended the Swedish artist Laleh who sang their version of ABBA’s song Chiquitita . For 35 years since ABBA donated parts of their royalties for the song Chiquitita to UNICEF to support children in the world. Of course, the Queen brought a visit to her daughter and granddaughter.
