We donned our flowered shirts and powdered faces and went out with water guns to play Songkran or the traditional Thai New Year.
My host siblings and I sat on the back of the pickup truck with two barrels of water and drove into the city, attacking whomever we saw, getting super soaked and powdered in the process.
The main road was inundated with cars, motorcycles, people, and water flying everywhere. Strangers and neighbors alike played and laughed together. Party music blasted from pretty much every direction; everybody was dancing. People passing by in the streets distributed talc powder paste as a blessing for the new year: wiping it on cheeks, foreheads, and the occasional ear. My face got completely covered, but was quickly washed clean by the constant sprays of water from every direction! Songkran is a time for cleaning, renewal, and celebration as well as a extremely fun way to cool off in the hot summer.

my sister just walked into my room half asleep to ask what the word "pitch" means. she said she couldn't sleep because she kept thinking about it.
I told her and she said thanks and went back to her room.

At 5:50 I braided my hair, packed my camera, and biked down the road behind my house. I raced toward the sun as fast as I could, hoping to catch it at the just right time. When I came to the end of the road I dismounted and barely caught it.
