i blame @yeraskier for talking about jaskier’s necklaces, although this is much more soft than what they were thinking of…

The moonlight streaming in the window glints off the metal in Geralt’s fingers, lighting the skin under his fingers where it falls. Geralt lifts the metal chain and wraps it around the tip of his finger, it being long enough that the movement barely tightens the chain around Jaskier’s neck.

okay but consider: the other witchers have heard burn butcher burn before jaskier came to kaer morhen and when he sang “at the end of my days, when i’m through, no words that i’ve written will ring quite as true as burn” and “i will burn all the memories of you”, they decided to do the same with jaskier. everything he did for the witchers, everything they owe them in regards to their reputation has been burnt, and all that’s left is the destructive force that is burn butcher burn.

that’s why lambert shrugs him off after the battle, when jaskier says “look at us. one big family, eh?”. that is why he is disregarded all the time. they don’t trust him.

jaskier hurt their brother with this, brought back the traumatic moniker he still has trouble living with. he did the one thing he never should have done. and now it’s not just geralt who has to live with the consequences of broken hearts and broken trust.
