people have been restrained, forcefed pills, and given electroconvulsive therapy or subjected to the electric chair for severe mental illness against their will. these are not fun props anyone gets to throw around to express that they feel depressed or in a “manic phase” or like they were “raised in an asylum.”

But can we please talk about those people that used to be fans and now unstanned her (rightfully so) but are being so disgusting? I saw terrible things that people said about her for example ”I hope she gets raped” or calling her bad stuff like ‘taywhore’ or ‘tayble’ and wishing that she “dies because of her eating disorder”. I’m also not a a fan of hers anymore but you can still be at least a bit human and wishing death on someone is just terrible and you can express your disappointment somehow different cause being like this doesn’t make you any better than her.

This article definitely gets some of Taylor’s past incorrect and the author seems to display a bias against her, but this last part is pretty spot on:

honestly i used to love taylor swift when i was younger and that’s why i dislike her so much now that i know what i know. it feels like such a betrayal. she marketed herself as this sweet and innocent country girl next door (the betty cooper of country music, if you will) and then you realize, she’s from Pennsylvania. then she stops faking the accent. then you find out about the shit she did when you were young and loved her like the homophobia in “picture to burn”, the antisemitic bullshit with the sw*stika photo and how that was handled, and she lied about how joe jonas “broke up with her” on the phone on multiple talk shows. she puts out a whole album about jake gyllenhaal and the “power imbalance” because she was 20-21, while she’s dating minors. I always thought the “shake it off” mv was cringey and dumb and I thought the aesthetic of the “wildest dreams” mv was pretty but that’s it, and then I read more about them and realized how awfully racist they are. and she makes money and gains celebrity from all of it. the feuds, the breakups, the precise marketing. $50 for a plain tshirt with her name on it. the starbucks partnerships, diet coke, receiving an honorary doctorate in 2022. and she admitted in her own fucking documentary that her whole image was a lie and she kept it up to sell records, but you’re supposed to support her now that she isn’t bc she stopped so she could stick it to trump. as if that makes up for all her past transgressions and silence. it wasn’t even an apology. she never apologizes because she never does wrong. i connected to someone who wasn’t even real, while she profited from being “authentic”.
