leafyofkanto:
Leaf went to go sit next to Green on the bench. One thing she did admire about him is how he, even though he didn’t always act like it, did care about those important to him. She put her hand his shoulder.
Tumblr media
“If a regular gift isn’t worthy enough, why don’t you get her something you just can’t buy.”
Green groans pathetically, ruffling his own hair in distress.
Tumblr media
"You say that like it's easy! This is Daisy we're talking about." he deflates, sliding down a little bit into the bench. There was a reason he asked Leaf on this excursion and not someone else--few people were allowed to see him like this. "Maybe I could get her a coupon for a massage...or a year of massages once a month? A little pricey but..." he's totally missing Leaf's point.

leafyofkanto:
Green had dragged Leaf all over the place trying to find the perfect gift for his sister, Daisy. She understood he loved his sister but it was getting kind ridiculous. She didn’t really mind that much since she got to spend time with him on one of the few days she returned to Kanto. “Alright, where do you want to go this time?” she said following him out of the shop.
@withtrustandlove
Green might've enjoyed himself more if the context had been different. He feels mildly bad for giving Leaf so little direction, but not quite enough to actually apologize for it. It's not like she had to stick around if she got fed up with him, anyway. He runs a hand through his hair, sighing a bit too deeply.
"Dunno. She's not even that hard to shop for, who the fuck knows what my hang up is..." he eventually sits on a nearby bench, with enough room for two.
Tumblr media
"How do you even properly thank someone like that? Regular gifts seem pretty lame."

Alright, that’s more or less all  the starters I’m going to finish today. I still owe Clair, Gold, and Silver (awaiting a message from Rosa-mun on a potential starter). Feel free to tag me in one if you’d like to thread, I’m game for just about anything. Ciao!

He's a little apprehensive that day, for some reason. It's not the first time he's done this, but something's definitely off. Green bites the inside of his cheek and frowns at essentially all of the flowers in that particular shop.
Tumblr media
"Nope, not here. We'll find a gift for Daisy somewhere else." he makes a hurrying gesture to Leaf, obviously agitated by something.

from then to now ( timeline drabble)
Becoming a gym leader had never been Green's goal in life. He wanted to travel, to train strong Pokemon, and to affect the region on a world-wide scale. When he assumed his position in Viridian City, it was only at the request of the residents of a city left torn apart by intrigue. He wasn't the type to do strangers favors on a whim, but they believed in him--and that was something he needed at the time.   Their faith pushed him to clean up Viridian City and, with the help of its citizens, bring it back to its former glory. The Pokemon Academy was improved, more buildings began to pop up; the small town became a hub of Pokemon education and welfare pursuit. Along with his duties as gym leader, he took on nightly patrols with the city's police force, taught a small class to aspiring trainers, and maintained good will with the surrounding population. But not everything was paradise. Green still felt like he was settling. Much to the chagrin of the Indigo League, he didn't adhere to the difficulty standards meant to be maintained at that level. He was still focused on training Pokemon at a level that could easily best the League, and this made anyone trying for the Earthbadge go home. No matter how often he was scolded and threatened in League meetings, Green silently refused to back down. He wouldn't be able to accomplish his real goal, otherwise: to defeat the current champion and take his rightful place at the head of the League. Much to his dismay, something was still missing. Aside from defeating the champion, he had no goals. Helping people was fine, but he didn't see the true merit in it. It was just one city amongst several; there would be no way to put a stop to things for good at this level. And so Green stewed, training in various parts of the region while mulling over what should be done. Matters didn't improve when the champion disappeared. His lack of fulfillment festered. Then, it happened. A completely random event, not foretold by the scientists meant to monitor it. The smoke from that eruption, even at its earliest stages, could be seen all the way from Pewter. Green and others rushed to help with evacuation efforts. They were mostly successful, but Cinnabar was a large island and casualties could not be totally prevented.  One face would not be seen there, and after things began to calm down Green would remember their absence. Where ever they were, he genuinely hoped they suffered knowing how useless they'd been in the face of real trouble. That eruption was the catalyst that changed his life--more so than the championship, more so than becoming gym leader. It reshaped how Green viewed the world, shook him at his very core. He became distant, more thoughtful and less driven. He trained, but with even less certainty than before. After all, what was the point if it could all be lost in the blink of an eye? Battling was the only thing that remained a constant source of stability, but no one could meet him evenly. Green vegetated in thought, spending much of his time alone on Cinnabar Island. Then one day, his sister gave away his number. Someone with promise showed their face; they battled, and for the first time since the championship, he lost. He had no idea where this kid would go, but whatever they intended to do would be in good hands. It was only then that Green rediscovered his love of battling and--by extension--love of Pokemon. The world was big, growing bigger every day, and he intended to be a part of it. He finally conceded to the League's demands that he follow regulation, but on condition that he could travel at least half of the year. Green began to study again, with his new pursuit focused on maintaining the health of the Kanto ecosystem when non-native Pokemon were introduced to it. He kept tabs on world champions,  challenging them on an international scale after thoroughly obsessing over their Pokemon and battle styles. He would participate in World Tournaments, study abroad, and eventually caught wind of a region looking to create its very first Pokemon League. Offering to help, he lived and worked there as a Battle Tree boss until the League's grand opening. He would eventually return to Kanto, spending his time equally in both regions. He is currently training a protege, with intention to pass the gym down to them at a time he deems worthy.

It's too early for regular challengers--Green hasn't even entered his gym yet. But she's cute, and looks mildly lost, so he'll give her the time of day.
Tumblr media
"Not sure you've got the right place. You look a bit too dressed up for a gym battle, lady." Too docile, too. She had the same kind of air as his sister. Green rolls a shoulder ‘til it pops, then points down the street past the fencing around his gym.
"There's a Pokemon center two blocks from here, with an Abra that'll teleport you anywhere in Kanto you need'ta go. Make sure you thank it."

"Y'know, you really oughta drink more water. You're looking pretty stressed out." whether Green says it out of genuine concern or dismissively is not entirely clear. He glances up from the grind of paperwork he'd been attending since early that morning, a landslide left to him while away in Alola.

How did he get himself into situations like this? All Green wanted was to live a quiet, very influential life with lots of travel and good media coverage. He wasn't after being some good Samaritan, certainly not a saint. So why this? Why couldn't someone else have been picked? He wasn't a stranger to psychic types. Alakazam was notoriously difficult to train once evolved, and without the right mental stimulation an Exeggutor would get sick. Though Green was no real psychic himself, he'd been told that perhaps in a former life he had been--and that was why they responded to him. He'd no interest in hypotheticals when he was a child, only in managing to train one of the most powerful types of Pokemon. And he'd managed, so that was enough for him. Green couldn't respond to his Pokemon's telepathic conversation without being verbal, but he had no trouble receiving those transmissions.
"I don't know what its saying--you tell me, Alakazam." their topic of conversation was the Elgyem that currently held steadfast to Green's hand. His own Pokemon could only shrug, staring hard at the strange creature while the group moseyed along a block in Saffron City. Elgyem itself seemed content so long as it could keep a hold on Green, though it did seem to glance around apprehensively at times.  Finally Alakazam stops, pointing to a small hole-in-the-wall cafe that didn't surprise Green in the least.
"She's here, huh? No dawdling then, I wanna get this over with." and so, with no ceremony or proper greeting, Green calls his Alakazam back it its ball and soon shoves his hand on a specific gym leader's table--

"I catch you at a bad time?" it's obvious that's not his main concern.

He knew this had to be some kinda prank. Green had no interest in Ghost Pokemon, and yet--here he was, at her beck and call. Lavender Town had no other use than that; she certainly hadn't invited him here to discuss the Radio Tower. Making a disgruntled noise, Green finds the first occult weirdo in his field of view and approaches them with a purpose in his step.
