Why the strong dislike of Roger Lune? (aka the Stuffy Fellow)

A teacher's job is to guide your students to their greatest potential, to open their minds to the possibilities and make them believe in themselves.. and by the end of your time with them, pray that they left your care with something more than a test grade. More than just some random facts and a smile on their face (which is always a bonus, but never required).. I want them to leave my class with more of themselves. 

Now Roger Lune...what Lyra has told me.. he seems (and how do I put this?) controlling, forceful... heartless. He says he wants Lyra's success, but what about after that life? What happens after? He's taught her technical skill, but what has he truly taught her about herself? I'm not sure... we are both very different teachers, but teaching is about more than just results for me. My students are people first, people that need care and encouragement, somebody to believe in them and allow them to make mistakes and grow. That's my job. 

I'm sorry.. that was long wasn't it? Does that even make sense, I wonder? Apologies. I tend to babble.
