It was part of a pack of concept art images that was sent to me by a particular user. They actually weren’t supposed to go public, but the user, against the concept artist’s wishes, sent them to me and didn’t tell me not to send them to others. One of the pics comes complete with a little proof-of-concept texture for blue Hat Kid’s clothes. There’s also a silhouette of a different Mu design in one of the pictures we got, but we don’t have a colored version, unfortunately.
Do you know anything about the blue alt hat kid design?
Oh another fun fact, we actually have a screenshot of these sand pillars! Just the one, I think, but I believe I was told that the material for said pillars is still in the editor in the final game, too, so that’s a cool thing. I’d post it here but uh, I have no idea how this website works, I just pop in on rare occasion.
Have you heard of the later version of sand 'n sails which took place on sand pillars floating in the clouds?
Yes! Its mentioned in an interview on youtube by Beta64. I transcribed it and posted a link on the blog but the gist of it is Sand N’ Sails was pretty much always Alpine Skyline. It started with the large desert and they were trying to think of ways to keep players interested in traversing the barren dessert. They tried shoes that make you run really fast, they tried a sand mobile, they tried auto generated enemies and obstacles none of those were any good. So then they decided well what if you couldn't touch the sand? They made platforms you had to jump on to avoid falling in but then they decided the hookshot would be way more interesting than just platforming everywhere. So the platforms evolved into ropes stretching from town to town that you would hookshot to and slide along. And at that point what was the reason for having the sand? So they removed the sand and put the towns their own individual sand pillars. But then they had the problem that, if these towns are in the sky, why are they on sand? They changed the sand to mountains, and Alpine Skyline was born.
Moonjumper’s strings were originally black/white but the fandom decided they were red. And I tried to find the reason as to why.
Read below my little journey of going down this rabbit hole.
