Y'all nailed Prohias' early design for the spies, particularly White Spy here, that is. Either way, y'all nailed it perfectly. Neat.
Tumblr media
Well I didn’t get much done. And I don’t wanna start anything I can’t finish…. Plus I’ll have better references when the omnibus actually arrives-

Word.
I am being 100% serious btw, BP coined the term "carbon footprint" and the shift from corporations to individuals as the cause of climate change was backed by fossil fuel companies. This is not a conspiracy theory, it's a well recorded fact that you can easily confirm with a quick google search.
"Carbon footprints" are corporate propaganda. Taking shorter showers and planting flowers will not save our planet as long as these companies are allowed to mow down forests, turn grasslands into monoculture farms, turn wetlands into dust bowl housing developments, fill our oceans with oil and trash, and dump their toxic shit wherever they want.

Oh boy, that look on poor White's face, LOL.
Apparently, now THIS comic straight up came to mind right then and there for some reason:

Either way, LOL!
I do not claim ownership. The Spy vs. Spy comic franchise belongs to the defunct MAD Magazine and the late Antonio Prohias. The fan art above at the top of this reblog belongs to dueling jesters. The comic was illustrated by the late Bob Clarke and written by Antonio Prohias. I own nothing.

Here, we have one of many instances of Black Spy falling for traps or pranks involving food. I'll be honest, there's something that's telling me that Black may probably be a potential candidate for the Big Eater Trope. I mean, the dude's got quite a healthy appetite.

Cripes, I swear this is one of my favorite Spy vs. Spy skits from the second season of MADtv, regardless of how disturbing it was. At least it's not as disturbing as the ants skit from the same season as this one, nor the White Spy macaroni skit from the previous season.

I swear, Black Spy is a prankster...
Since today for me was basically a do-nothing-day, I may as well just present y'all two of my favorite Spy vs. Spy comics from Bob Clarke's era out of sheer boredom because, I dunno, I'm crazy.
Here:
Tumblr media
This is another one of those comics that gives me a feeling Black is quite a bit of a smart-alecky prankster. I LOL'ed at him basically creating the decoy, not to mention that he straight up strips down to his underwear here to pull the prank on (preassumably) White successfully, just like he previously did in one of the paperback comics from the early-70s (particularly in Operation: Safe Conduct, which was later made into an animated skit for MADtv towards the end of the first season about 23 or 24 years later).
Here's the second one from the same era that really splits my sides, which if I had to guess was probably released the same year as the first one, but this one was originally written by Prohias instead of Edwing, many years before Clarke eventually illustrated the actual comic as you see here:
Tumblr media
Of course, Black pulls a prank on White once again, but this time not only exploits White's vanity (kind of) and embarrasses him the second his (White's) underpants are exposed (LOL; gotta love the blush poor White has as he attempts to pull his trousers back up in the second to last panel), but also straight up delivers a painful bash over White's head while his (White's) trousers were still down.
Anyhow, there are images of the original sketches of the second comic that was illustrated by Prohias on the internet, but I have no idea how old the original sketches are. Though I'm thinking about saving that for a different day.
For both comics, I gotta say "nice underpants, you two, LOL!"
I do not claim ownership of any content. Spy vs. Spy belongs to the late Antonio Prohias. Both comics were illustrated by Bob Clarke. The first one was written by the late Duck Edwing. The second comic was written by Antonio Prohias.

Here, here. LOL at Oscar scoffing. Maybe a couple of years ago, I basically imagined if Oscar decides to make a grouch esque cartoon show called "The Batterbrains."
Tumblr media
Instead of being romantic, Oscar would probably depict the titular characters, Mr. and Mrs. Batterbrain, as being insanely stupid and freaky who spend their days beating each other over the heads out of sheer stupidity and getting into all kinds of ludicrous squabbles. "THIS is what I think of those two dried up, old batterbrains," says Oscar as he draws them. Imagine the Count and Countess' reactions to such a ridiculous cartoon as well as the titular characters' antics.
Yes, they bear a strong resemblence to the Deadman family from Toonsylvania. This was intentional. I also based them off of the Fatheads from Rocko's Modern Life.
I do not claim ownership of any content. Oscar the Grouch, Count von Count, and Countess Natasha von Numeral belong to Jim Henson's Muppets and Sesame Workshop (formerly known as Children's Television Workshop). The Fatheads from Rocko's Modern Life belong to Nickelodeon. The Deadmans from Toonsylvania belong to Bill Kopp.

I will admit that the raspy, chain-smoker voice White was given was rather interesting. Not to mention that the incomprehensible babble that was used in the only skit anybody actually "speaks" was straight up the icing on the cake. Sometimes, I wonder if he actually sounds like that. I mean, both Black and White previously had the same raspy vocal effects in the Billiards skits. So it wouldn't really surprise me if both him and Black actually had raspy chain-smoker voices. Then again, White's voice was different in the Ants skit.
Anyhow, as for this skit in general, it's too bad they didn't add in the opening "scene" from the original paperback comic where Black straight up taunts White from behind the gate of the Black Embassy by shouting obscenities at him while he (White) was minding his own business. That opening "scene" is what led to this incident.

Word. Personally, it's simultaneously hilarious and adorable at the same time. This is one of those comics that imply that Black Spy is probably great with children, apparently.
This Spy vs. Spy comic is ADORABLE!!!

I will admit that I find the first panel in this comic rather questionable.
Hey Black, question: why the frick are you operating a tank in the middle of a public park? Seriously dude, White is RIGHT THERE. So of course he likely heard your freak'n tank. So no wonder you failed miserably, duh.
Yes, I am aware that White had more than likely set up his trap ahead of time. Just the idea of Black operating a tank in the middle of a public park, and with White right there no less, was so questionable that it was something I had to get off my chest.
I do not claim ownership of any copyrighted content. Spy vs. Spy belongs to the defunct MAD Magazine and Antonio Prohias. This comic was done was Bob Clarke and probably written by Don "Duck" Edwing (I could be wrong though as this was one of Clarke's earliest Spy vs. Spy comics from his era).

I will admit that as much as I really enjoy Prohias' era of the comics as well as Manak's, I seem to probably be one of the few people who seem to like Bob Clarke's era of the comics. His illustrations of the spies basically come in third place, personally. I wish he was a little more detailed with the illustrations, but they're still pretty decent.
Anyhow, LOL at the top image of Black and White fighting over whatever that is supposed to be.

I will say that Spy vs. Spy has been the hallmark of MAD (the magazine of course, and its TV adaptions: MADtv, and MAD from CN) for over six decades and Prohias stated that his creation of the spies was basically a satisfying form of revenge on Fidel Castro after Prohias fled from Cuba to New York after the former was threatening to execute the latter for not becoming a "Castro Covertable."
What I have to say about the two main spies, Black and White, is that they are insane that it's hilarious. Their antics split my sides, even if some of the gags in many select comics as well as the one panel opening gags are rather disturbing, but still hilarious. If anybody is asking me which one is my favorite, I will be honest: I love BOTH Black Spy and White Spy equally. I mean, they're so elaborate (yet somewhat empty-headed at the same time), handsome, smart-alecky (especially Black Spy in my opinion), yet rather savage and psychotic (mainly towards each other). At the end of the day, they are both such a riot. Thanks to their long, pointy noses (thanks to Prohias' habit of exaggerating the length of a person's nose), I used to think they were humanoid rats when I was a kid. Yes, I am absolutely aware the spies are humans, but they still look kinda like humanoid rats (minus the ears, regardless) to me to this very day.
What I have to say about a certain Woman in Gray is that I'm not too fond of her at all, honestly, but I will admit that it is so cute when Black Spy and White Spy, thanks to their weakness for women, turn into absolute sweethearts whenever she shows up and seduces them (until they fall into her traps EVERY SINGLE TIME, that is). While countless fans would wish Gray Spy would lose for once due to how much they hate her, I personally don't think that would be such a good idea. Now don't get me wrong, as much as I really don't like her at all due to her always winning, thus basically making her the invincible antagonist, I would still stay true to her intended concept of always gaining the upper hand over Black and White, and her immunity to slapstick, just as Prohias had intended, considering that he wanted to be respectful to women. However, even he found her appearances too predictable, so he slowly phased her out. I'll be honest, I'm glad he did. Future illustrators and writers, especially Kuper (who made her into a recurring character), brought her back after Prohias retired. I have a theory: Gray Spy is more intelligent than the male spies, most likely to the point to where she is ALWAYS AT LEAST one step ahead of them. Even if Black Spy and White Spy teamed up for once to stop Gray Spy once and for all, they will still most likely fail because like I said, Gray Spy is theoretically more intelligent than them, and therefore is at least one step ahead of them. I personally would like to use Gray Spy's concept of always gaining the upper hand over Black and White, and always winning as a message that women abusing, harassing, and/or generally (physically and emotionally) harming men NEEDS to be taken just as seriously as the other way around.
As for illustrators after Prohias retired in 1987, my personal favorite out of all three or four of Prohias' successors is Dave Manak. I mean, I personally think that his illustrations of the spies are at least the closest to that of Prohias' later illustrations of the spies prior to the latter's retirement. I just love how Manak frequently drew the spies with their hairs sticking out of their hats as well as the lips he gave them. Coming in third place overall (after Antonio Prohias and Dave Manak) for all four or five of the illustrators is Bob Clarke (this is really just my opinion). His illustrations of the spies was rather interesting and he tried (kind of). I will admit, I wish his illustrations of the spies were a little more detailed, but his illustrations for the spies were decent nonetheless. What I have to say about George Woodbridge is that his illustrations of the spies were rather intriguing, but it's too bad he only did two comics. Last, but not least, there's Peter Kuper. I'm sure he's a nice person, but I'll be honest, his comics for the spies were insanely disturbing and, for some reason, give off quite a lot of "Ren and Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon" vibes. Nothing against him, I mean his illustrations of the spies were detailed and unique, but something about his era kinda rubs me the wrong way and I don't know why. Overall, as highly disturbing as Kuper's comics of the spies were, they're OK for the most part.
That's all I've got to say about Spy vs. Spy, for now at least. Thank you for taking the time to read my opinions about Spy vs. Spy. Peace.

Boy, Black should have known better when he heard White's fan-ring RIGHT THERE.
You people can hate on me all you want, but I think there is absolutely no way these two are homosexual towards each other in anyway, ok? Prohias himself referred to them as "friendly rivals" during the early days of the comics before they evolved into their more sadistic and deranged demeanors towards each other as time went on (eventually, thanks to Kuper, their brutality and psychotic demeanors towards each other really skyrocketed, therefore became more disturbing).
