Top 10 Home Projects to Work on This Weekend
How would you like to spend the weekend? Perhaps, this would be the perfect time to do simple DIY projects at home. There are many advantages by doing some basic tasks. You get to save money instead of getting professional help. Besides, you can work leisurely even if it takes longer than expected. So, better get started. Try these 10 challenging home projects for a change.
 Insulate Water Pipes
Insulating water pipes especially before the winter season can be an excellent idea. Pipes especially those installed in unheated areas easily get frozen and burst and flood the house. Moreover, insulating these pipes can also save you money. Aside from having to buy new pipelines, insulation of hot water pipes reduces heat loss and costs of heating water. On the other hand, insulating cold pipes prevent them from dripping because of moisture condensation. All you need is foam insulating material (neoprene) and a plumber’s wrench.
 Regrouting Bathroom Tiles
You may also want to regrout the bathroom tiles. It is a fairly straightforward task that you can finish in a few hours. The only step that may take longer will be the curing process. Of course, you need grout mix, utilityknife, hammer, chisel for ceramics, and small scraping tool with folding blade. You can apply grout on all parts of the tile but not the expansion joints. Likewise, take away the existing grout before replacing with the new mix. This ensures a clean and even appearance while preventing mold contamination.
 DIY Painting
Why not paint the rooms to give them a fresh look? Do-it-Yourself house painting significantly lowers your costs. Painting can also be agreeable especially if you hand-paint the roof. You really don’t need to rush so you can see different parts of the house up-close. Besides, you can see certain areas that may require fixing. You will need to plan your approach ahead of time. Come up with a list of materials as well. These include the paint, brush, roller, tray, sandpaper, tape, putty knife, and rags.
Take Care of the Furnace
Check out the furnace. You need to find out if the pilot light remains functional and burning. For some units, you have to light the furnace manually if the pilot light is extinguished. Follow the guidelines for relighting that you can find on the access doors. Call a professional heating contractor in case you fail to relight the pilot light. Also, lubricate the blower motor and check for possible holes or gaps.
Rodent and Mice Control
Most homeowners find rodent control a problem. The process can be risky because rodents are infectious and contaminate persons especially children. Aside from pest control, you can prune bushes and grass that serve as hiding places for rodents particularly rats and mice. Seal your trash bags tightly so these serve as food source for them. You might as well clean the house and remove all rubbish inside.
 Clean the Entryways
Take this time to organize and clear the entryway. Doing so gets rid of all the clutter and enhances your home’s ‘curb appeal.’ Beautify the outdoor through landscaping, adding flowering plants, welcome mats, and outdoor lights. You can event paint the door with a new color. Just choose a weekend that is not too humid or hot.
