hey guys, huron here! i appreciate all the love I’ve received on this page and wanted to share my new blog with yall @jaarnvidja . that’s where I’ll be posting my norse musings from now on!

I think the biggest misconception I’ve seen in the nonhuman community about those who identify as wolves, is that they are complete social butterflies no matter the situation.

That simply isn’t true. Yes, wolves are very social, with their packs. Which are usually their mate or family members that they have grown up with often since puppyhood.

Wolves are naturally neophobic. We are very cautious animals. Anything new, very often including other unknown wolves, are viewed very timidly. You can’t just throw together a bunch of wolves and expect them to instantly get along perfectly with one another.

I see so many nonhumans go “I’m probably not a wolf” because they aren’t extremely social, or even the opposite going “I must be a wolf” because they are a canine and very social.

We are very socially selective animals who are confident and comfortable with familiarity.

I thought this was super fun!

1. My longest standing special interest is definitely wolves/werewolves.

2. I would say both? I definitely need a certain amount of sensory stimuli, mainly audio/visual, but I can’t handle a lot of physical stimuli.

3. I wish people would understand that fundamentally my brain and nervous system processes things differently than most people so my needs are different.

4. I unmask whenever I’m around my friends/family. I don’t really mask that much compared to other autistic people, really only when I’m talking to customers at work.

5. It changes by the week, but oftentimes it’s rigatoni in a garlic cream sauce pasta WITHOUT cheese.

6. I can’t afford a formal diagnosis, but I learned that I likely have autism (due to my symptoms) when I was 18. (I have discussed it with medical professionals as well as other people who have formal diagnoses. My friends lovingly refer to it as “peer reviewed autism”).

7. My comfort item is a plush dog I’ve had since the day I was born.

8. Honestly? I’d like people to understand that I struggle with social cues and social taboos and be kind about it.

9. When I’m doing art, especially when I’m working with taxidermy.

10. Yes, I do!

11. My coworkers are really accommodating and kind. They’re all very kind and understanding and kindly correct me if I do something wrong.

12. She’s not canon autistic, but Dr. Temperance Brennan from the show Bones.

13. My capacity for empathy! It can be overwhelming sometimes but I think it’s one of my greatest strengths.

14. Flapping hands, cracking knuckles, and drumming.

15. I would love to!

Norse Animal Spirits: Brown Bear

Bear is one of the most unique spirits I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I find oftentimes animal energies fit somewhere along the lines of masculine or feminine - Bear utterly defies this. Bear is both mother and father, creator and destroyer, sower and reaper. Bears have long captured the mind of humans. In cultures all around the world people identify with them and embody them both in their spiritual and everyday lives. This is because, to me, Bear is an animal that represents life and the Earth itself. Bears are known to be strong, protective parents but they are also known to be incredibly violent towards others. They are both strong hunters and brutal predators but they can also be seen gently eating berries from a bush.

Bear is duality. Call upon Bear when you need to understand the world at large and when you need wisdom beyond just one perspective.

Norse Animal Spirits: Boar

Boar is generally not the first animal to pop into someone’s mind when thinking of Northern animal spirits, but he is a powerful and ancient teacher.

Boar is strong, powerful - a personification of the rune Uruz. Boar is associated with both Freyja and Freyr (as Gullinbursti and Hildisvini) and is thus a spirit associated with fertility. Not only is Boar representative of divine masculinity in the form of phallic fertility, but also in the form of an earth-dweller. Boars live close to the ground, close to the Earth, and as Vanir-adjacent spirits they are in-tune with the natural rhythms of the world. Boar is also a companion spirit, as both Hildisvini and Gullinbursti are mounts and traveling companions to the Twins.

Boar is wild, passionate, and intense, yet also carries a sort of quiet knowing about them. Boar is duality. Call upon Boar when you need passionate and strong support. When you need guidance of a raging river, Boar will answer.

Norse Animal Spirits: Raven

Raven is a mysterious, enigmatic spirit. Raven is a knowledge bringer - they are heavily connected to the otherworld and the spirits of death and the afterlife. When Raven brings wisdom it is never easy but it is always needed. Raven knows the runes and whispers them into your ear. They have seen all Nine Worlds and know all that is in it, but they do not share easily. To learn the wisdom of Raven, one must sit with them, learn from them. You must learn to see from their point of view.

My New Year’s Resolution this year is to connect more with my spirituality. One of the ways I’ve decided to do that is with this blog. This is the first installation in a series of posts where I share some of my knowledge from my experiences as a Norse animist and seidkona. I hope you enjoy.

Yo! It's me again. I may or may not have become a therian. And..uh... how can I eat "raw meat" to satisfy that predator side? Tnx.

congratulations on discovering this about yourself! it’s certainly not an easy realization. being a predator therian/kin is frustrating at times - you may at times have a prey drive and the desire to hunt but generally are unable to because of the society we live in.

if you are unable, or uncomfortable, with partaking in actual hunting, i recommend getting meat from a small butcher shop or a local meat vendor. i have one near me that sells elk meat and i get that to satisfy my wolf urges. it’s expensive and thus a rare treat, but it’s worthwhile.

if that is also not an option for you, consider getting leaner cuts of meat or animal organs and cook them rare.
