When Inej says she'll have Kaz without his armour SHE IS NOT SAYING SHE WILL ONLY HAVE HIM IF THEY CAN HAVE A PHYSICAL RELATIONSHIP

She is saying she can only have a relationship with him if he trusts her enough to let her in and be honest

Armour can mean a lot of different things, and while yes Kaz's gloves and clothes and legacy is his armour, there is also a shit ton more unseen armour around his heart and soul

He keeps everyone at arms length and doesn't let anyone see his feelings or thoughts ... his weaknesses

Inej knows that

And she also knows she deserves better than to be in a relationship with someone who isn't giving equally

Yes Kaz loves her from before the first chapter of the book, but he isn't yet willing to let her in. He's still in denial, trying to focus on his revenge and not be distracted or weakened by love

He isn't ready for a relationship

And once again, Inej knows this

But she knows he's capable of it. When she says she will have him without armour, she is saying she wants the parts of him he locks away from everyone else, she is saying she won't settle for just the strong parts of him

She's saying she wants Kaz Rietveld, she wants his fears and traumas and his weaknesses

She is saying "if we can't love all aspects of each other then we can't love at all"

She isn't asking him to fix himself for her, or to be or do things he isn't comfortable with or capable of

She isn't demanding a physical relationship

She isn't even ready for that

And she is 100% Not being toxic

Yes she is providing terms or an ultimatum in a sense, but in a healthy way. In the way of knowing her own worth, and knowing Kaz's potential. And not rushing into things before they're ready and having their relationship ultimately implode because of it.

She is only asking for trust

To be let in

To be Kaz and Inej, not just Dirtyhands and the Wraith

Friendly not so friendly reminder that Inej Ghafa is one of the main characters of SoC and not just “Kaz’s romantic interest”

Inej and Matthias and Kaz and Nina are both sibling duos but they exist on complete opposite ends of the siblings spectrum.

Inej and Matthias are the siblings that post cute photodumps for each other's birthdays and go on trips together and text every day. They loan each other money and Matthias drives her around and Inej always brings him back something when she gets food.

Nina and Kaz are the siblings that fight over the smallest things and do the "he's touching me" "I'M NOT TOUCHING YOU I'M TOUCHING THE AIR" bit. Kaz just walks into Nina's room, stares at her for 30 seconds and walks back out. They eat each other's food despite Kaz labeling everything he owns and nearly kill each other over it.

Inej brings Kaz home and Matthias asks why he thinks he's good enough for his sister.

Kaz brings Inej home and Nina says, in full view of everyone "you're too good for my brother".

Why did I JUST realize the parallel of Nina spending most of her time on both boat trips in the makeshift sick bay? The first time taking care of Inej and the second dealing with parem. Not to mention the parallels of being stuck below deck with Matthias there. I love Leigh’s writing so much

*climbs up on stupid little soapbox and screams* there is absolutely NOTHING “toxic” or “problematic” about inej telling kaz that he needs to remove his armor to be with her. he puts up so many walls and is so afraid of vulnerability that, if anything, what would really be toxic is her getting into a relationship with him and letting things continue that way. neither kaz NOR inej herself are ready to be together in an even remotely healthy way when that line is delivered in six of crows, and inej recognizes that. the idea that she should’ve just “accepted him as he was” absolutely fails to acknowledge how unhealthy relationships can get when the individuals in them aren’t emotionally in a good place for a relationship. the idea that she (or anyone) has to accept a partner who is in a toxic place as they are “if you really love them” and doesn’t have a right to draw a boundary is a deliberate misreading of that individual scene at best and an extremely damaging sentiment to transfer into an outlook on real life relationships at worst. thank you, goodnight. *climbs off stupid little soapbox*
