It’s E4K season again, also known as Endure 4 Kindness!
Penn Christian Academy was so amazing during our last year's E4K - hosting us, giving us a place to walk, knit, and crash - that this year, we decided to give them a helping hand! Over 24 hours, starting the evening of Friday, March 31st, we will complete as many tasks on their maintenance list as we can. We'll be working both inside and outside - cleaning windows, pulling weeds, scrubbing, waxing, maybe even some painting!
We're super excited about this, and any and all donations made will serve to make us work faster, possibly with a happy, little working song that may or may not be livestreamed during the wee hours of the night. Help spur us on and donate and/or share our fundraising page!

The first weekend of March, thanks to a grant from Random Acts, the WoLPGH collected supplies for, assembled, and distributed care packs for the homeless. It was a wonderful, moving event, and those we helped were truly grateful.

On Valentine’s Day, we participated in Random Acts’ Roses for Seniors! Multiple groups of us went to local nursing homes and handed out roses to kind, grateful residents. It was a wonderful, touching time!

Winter with the WoLPGH has been just as busy as Summer was! Between game nights every month and our Best Christmas Party Ever, we’ve barely had time to hibernate!

WolPGH celebrated “Supernatural Fans’ Christmas” (also known as Halloween) on October 29th! We came dressed for the occasion and ready to party -- with some salt and iron within easy reach, of course. Just in case. We did have a bit of a scare when one of our attendees, unbeknownst to us, dressed up unrecognizably and stood menacingly outside of the house. I’d like to say we weren’t freaked out, but we were. Just a little bit. Luckily, no one attempted to pull a Dean on our creeper, and the incident ended in laughs and cheers! Definitely a fun night!

October 22nd, we held our first Game Night! As you can see, we had quite a feast and TONS of fun! We ended up playing both the regular version of Cards Against Humanity, as well as the “Supernatural” version. Unfortunately, we never got to play “Supernatural” Trivial Pursuit, but that just means we’ll get to have another Game Night!

Just last month, in September, the WoLPGH had our very first Coloring and Wine Night! To say it was a fun time would be an understatement - anything involving alcohol, the boys, and colored pencils is a winning night, are we right?! 😉

Thursday, October 13th, "Supernatural" premiered its 12th season. Never ones to pass up an excuse to get together, we of course had a watch party! The Parkway Theater once again warmly welcomed us back, and squees, sobs, "Why?" and "No!" reverberated throughout the room. Luckily, we had the support of our fellow Fangirls, as well as copious amounts of liquor! 😉

Frankie is one of the coolest kids we know. But he's been dealt an unfair hand. Living with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes isn't easy for him or his mom, Pam, but despite their struggles, they still find time to be there for others in their time of need. It's time to turn the tables on them. The Women of Letters Pittsburgh wants to come together to raise money to get Frankie a diabetic alert dog. Shop now for the next two weeks to get your #FrankiesFanGirls T-shirts. All proceeds raised from Women of Letters T-Shirt sales for the next year will go to helping Frankie and his family get a Diabetes Alert Dog to help manage Frankie's Type 1 Diabetes. Thanks to a generous grant from Random Acts, the WoLPGH was able to buy, assemble, and deliver 50 homeless care packages for a local shelter. The majority of the packages were put together at our winter meet-up in February, and then finalized and finally delivered the day after the Pittsburgh convention, July 11. This was our largest and longest spanning project to date, and though we faced some logistics issues at the end, the packages were delivered to those who needed them most. It was an amazing experience, and we hope to work with Random Acts again in the future!
(Note to selves - do NOT schedule anything the day after a convention, when everyone is sleeping off their con crud!)

July 7-10, 2016 was party time for the WoLPGH!!! Pittsburgh held its very first Creation Salute to Supernatural convention at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, in the heart of downtown. There were panels, karaoke, an amazing Saturday show, and then on Sunday morning, the WoL had just enough time to get together for a bite to eat and a quick photo! It was a busy, busy weekend, but it was beyond fun and we all can’t wait til next year!

On June 25, 2016, a few of the WoLPGH got together crafting supplies and face paints to run a booth at a fundraiser carnival benefiting a local girl, Maliyah, who was battling cancer. There were games, fun, laugher, and tons of paint! Too many kids to count had their faces painted and arms (temporarily!) tattooed. Despite her pain, Maliyah was a trouper and visited every single booth.
Update: Sadly, Maliyah passed away the following month, on July 24. She was an amazing, beautiful, spirited, and strong little girl, and she’s missed by the thousands of people she touched and inspired during her short time on earth. Rest in peace, sweet girl.

On June 11, 2016, a group of WoLPGH ladies participated in the local Dirty Girl Mud Run, which benefits the cancer charity Bright Pink. It was a challenging course - the hills in western Pennsylvania are no joke! - but we persevered and conquered both hills AND obstacles, thanks to teamwork, mud, encouragement, and a whole lot of laughter!
On a related note, since February, the WoLPGH has been shrinking! No, we’re not losing members - just weight! We’re making healthier choices and keeping ourselves accountable. If you’re a part of the WolPGH and would like support on your health journey, Facebook message one of the admins and ask to be added!

May 28, the WoLPGH had a Memorial Day weekend family picnic at Settlers Cabin Park. We ate, laughed, planned, and squeed! It was a steaming hot day, but Super Soakers saved the day!

On May 25, 2016, WoLPGH hosted our biggest watch party yet! The Parkway Theater in McKees Rocks warmly welcomed us, as you can see by the awesome marquee, and we had a blast (OK, we may have cried a little because feels) watching Supernatural’s season 11 finale!
A huge thank you to Parkway Theater and Pam for setting us up!
