Honestly, people should wonder who Bob is. He’s odd, Thunderbolts New Avengers were group-hugging him, he lives with them… who is he? People have theories, people have ideas, people have memes. They think he’s the boyfriend of each of them. John is appalled because he’s married, damn it! (“Aren’t you in the middle of a divorce?” “But we are talking and we are working on it” “she moved in with another guy, John.” “We are working on it.” “Also Lena should be the one most offended since it’s a literal erasure of her sexuality.” “What about my sexuality? I’m straight!” *everybody laughs*)

Except then Sam Wilson and other Actual Serious Heroes Propervengers With No New At The Front and No Z At The End come in to check the madhouse and look at Bob and ask who he is and everybody visibly panics. Because no one can know, no one should know. Sam becomes more and more suspicious so John - who was literally just sent a John/Bob conspiracy theory board by Ava - blurts out “he’s my boyfriend!”. Record scratches. The pause lasts three full eternities. (“Your…” “boyfriend. Don’t tell my wife! Ex wife. I’m divorced.”) And Sam buys it because if there’s one person who’d have a secret boyfriend that no one can know about that would be John; ex military, all American Rockwell family reject, freshly divorced, just coming to terms with his sexuality. Not ready to publicly come out. Team desperate to help him out and cover for him. Yeah. Ok. They get it. They all buy it. (“Ok John but you really shouldn’t keep a civilian around here” “I live here! With Bob. So, you know.” “K”)

And then unfortunately the Other Avengers (The Proper Avengers? The On Brand Avengers?? The Capvengers???) decide to stay in the AvengerZ tower for at least a couple of long long long days and Bob and John have to pretend to be boyfriends. Share a room. Share a bed. Surprise! Thunderbolts New Avengers 2 is actually a comedy of errors Rom-com!

Adding onto the common HC I’ve been seeing of John being the group cook — he is DEFINITELY the “get the fuck out of my kitchen while I’m cooking” type of person, like you walk in to get a glass of water and he is like “fuck off no I WILL get you water do not DISTURB my cooking. Here. Now LEAVE.”

I like to think he’s mainly like that cuz he likes to solely focus on what he’s doing, and alot of the others end up commenting or asking too many questions — this kinda feeds into my undiagnosed OCD/Autism HC for John — and it’s just annoying and overwhelming. But not Bob. Bob is allowed to stay.

John has declared Bob can stay because he is — as John puts it — “a respectful spectator”. Which started as Bob sitting in the common area near the kitchen doing whatever while John cooked, then slowly migrating over to the opposite side of the kitchen island. Then that evolved into Bob randomly saying little tidbits of how his day was and then it ended with Bob just coming in to yap about whatever while John cooks while replying ever so often but mostly just letting him talk.

John now finds a strange sense of comfort in his rambling and everyone else is like “why can he stay and we can’t” and John is like “cuz he’s Bob and you’re not.” And Ava teases him RELENTLESSLY for it like — “oooh someone’s playing favourites” and John just tells her to fuck off cuz in all honesty, he IS playing favourites.

headcanon: after the events of Thunderbolts* Walker apologizes to Bob for how he treated him in the vault, and they unexpectedly start to get along and spend time together. At some point, the others start to notice that Walker is wayyy more nicer to Bob than the rest of them... like, they can all admit that since they moved to the tower he's been making an effort to be less of an asshole in general, but he's so soft with Bob, it's almost ridiculous. Anyways, it ends up getting to the point where every time someone needs to ask Walker a favor, especially when he's in a cranky mood, they send Bob to do it because they know he can't deny him anything.
