So did any other nonhumans spend your childhood staring out the window, feeling some great sense of longing and loss, like you were meant to be somewhere greater, more wild? Like you were meant to be running through the woods, flying across treetops, or swimming through lakes and feeling disappointed that your human vessel couldn't do that?

"Everyone has the desire to become a dragon. We just all balance the dragon thoughts out with human thoughts" was my version of 'everyone has gay thoughts sometimes' growing up

I tried that thing where you're casually open about your identity, without ever actually trying to explain otherkinity, and it fucking worked??
Went out for lunch with a guy I've only met twice, and he asked about my bison pendant. I just said that if I were an animal I'd be a bison, I relate to their resilience and stubbornness, it's kinda like a spiritual thing.
Later in the day, he commented about my not wearing a jacket in December and I jokingly asked if he'd ever seen a bison get cold (and then said something about my ADHD meds making me overheat).
And wouldn't you know it, a while later he himself made a joke about me being a bison, completely unprompted.
Incredible. I don't know what I was afraid of, I should've tried this way sooner!!

Dreaming of wings
About a month ago I had a dream I knew someone who had the glider wingsuit thing pictured above. It was a very short dream. I tried on the wings and they turned into something like realistic fursuit wings, but I chose to represent that instead as the mirror reflection showing what it felt like.
This also shows how my "tail" functions in flying dreams. It's essentially just the leg portion of a wingsuit since dream flight for me requires a tail for stability and needs physical limbs to represent nonhuman things like wings and tails for flight to function reliably

Friendly reminder to never EVER let losers on the internet convince you that alterhumanity is wrong or will never be accepted by general society.
I went to my city's local renaissance faire earlier this week and I had genuinely such an incredible experience. I went with my tail, theta delta necklace, and mask (which I may post here once Im fully done with it lol) gear and received so many compliments. Not only that but I saw and talked to quite a few other alterhumans, like at least 10 and that was after only being there for 1 of the 2 days for less than 2 hours. Also please keep in mind that this was by no means a large ren faire (at least compared to others in the region) and the area I live in is very mixed in terms of progressiveness. But at one point I was walking past some vendors and an older lady running one of the booths exclaimed how much she liked my mask and asked to take a picture of it, and explained how her granddaughter was just starting to learn how to make some of her own. And then told me that the booth next to hers was "selling some therian masks" (yes she actually used the word therian completely unprompted!) and sure enough the couple in there were selling some masks made by their 11 year old daughter (which were absolutely gorgeous btw). Afterwards, as I was out near the parking lot waiting for my ride so that I could leave, I was practicing quadrobics and some 5-6 year old kids walked past me with their parents and looked absolutely awestruck. Shortly after another woman approached me and told me that her young granddaughter was completely overjoyed when she saw me me running around and had wanted to come play with me, and had said "Ive never seen a creature play like that before!!"
Not only was the ren faire itself super fun and cool to be at (I can't wait for next year omg), but it was unexpectedly the most positive alterhuman related experiences Ive had maybe ever.
There is a future where we are normal, where others see us as who we truly are and where we don't have to conceal ourselves to avoid judgement. The road isn't always going to be smooth, especially as we grow in numbers, in fact I fully expect things to get a whole lot worse for us in the years and decades to come. But one day, maybe even in our lifetimes, you will walk through a pride parade and see someone enthusiastically waving a massive theta delta flag through the crowd. You will hear strangers casually use species neutral language like it's the most normal thing in the world. You will sit down with your family to watch the newest popular tv show that includes a character who has received species affirming medical care. You will walk past a cozy locally owned business that has an "all species welcomed!" sticker on their window next to their lgbtq+ and poc welcoming signs.
We are everywhere, and we're not going away. There will always be those who refuse to understand us, but there will be more who choose to love and accept us in our entirety, I have absolutely no doubt about that <3

Yeah I saw this post (and how immature this guy was being in replies) and just decided not to bother arguing with a child.
If I decided to get a custom mask made, it'd be expensive af! I've made my peace with that! Between the movable jaw and modeled scales and colors (idk where I'd even get a pigment with the exact shade of blue morpho iridescence I'd need) plus labor it'd be a LOT of money. And deservedly so. OP is being unreasonable bc even if I made it myself, materials would probably be a hundred bucks by themselves?? If I made it I'd save on labor bc you know, it's my own labor for myself, but if I were making it to sell I'd want at least minimum wage for it
Also really just. Yeah! Complaining to complain bc you can make yourself some claws out of modeling clay for like 10 bucks or whatever a little oven clay costs, and (for dragonkin at least) I know there's at least a few cheaper knit scalemaile options on etsy. I got myself some iridescent blue horns at the renn faire this summer for like 60 bucks and those things made my dragon so unbelievably happy I didn't take them off for the rest of the day

reposting this thing I found because op turned off reblogs AND comments
Typically someone will charge more for an art piece, aside from skill and materials, based on demand for the product. If there is high demand for therian masks, they'll raise their price. If there's high demand for their masks, they'll raise the price to about what is affordable to their audience. Meaning, if enough people are paying up to $200 for a mask commission, they'll make that standard since that's what people are willing to pay and it's consistent enough. That's basic economics
Therian masks are VERY oversaturated now (/Lh) so there are many cheap, beautiful, under $50 options out there if you don't want to spend a lot on one and can't make one yourself. It's complaining for no real reason, because there are more cheap mask makers than not.
It would be understandable to be upset if lq masks were being sold for that much, or if most of the market was that expensive, but it's not

Starting to get chilly again where I live, which means it's the time of year where every time I curl up on my side I feel like I should be wrapping my tail around myself and then getting salty that I can't
