Trainee profile: Chae Eunbi 제은비

Background: Eunji was born in Jeju, South Korea, close to where fellow trainee Seungkwan was born. She had a pretty normal life as a child and moved to Seoul to attend SOPA for high school. During her high school years, she auditioned for a survival show, but didn't make it past the top 60 she was rated so low. However she did get signed and was part of a pre-debut girl group that did not see any success. Eunbi finished her studies at SOPA and was planning to aim for a shot at acting.

With her dreams still far away, she wasn't going to give up so she auditioned for more companies. She eventually was cast in an up and coming reality youtube series where Korean women get to date foreigners. The series was so successful that she was invited to audition for Wake One entertainment. She got in and her training period was only a few months before debuting again in a girl group. Also not too long after that she was revealed to be playing the part of Nali t'Hwersuil in DS9, a side character but she got to show her charms in the role.

Background: Mikhail grew up in Vladivostok, Russia with a single mother who worked as a university professor. His town had a large Korean population and a few years after he was born, his mother started dating a Korean man who taught at a local school and later became Mikhail's stepdad. Mikhail visited his school after he was done with his classes and helped out with after school classes. He loved helping out and he learned a lot of Korean in that time too.

When it came time for high school, his parents decided to move to Korea and Mikhail attended Hanlim Multi-arts school with dreams of becoming an actor. He did a year exchange programme in the states at Alliance High School in Washington and that's when he met Dimitri and the rest of Sugar Skyline.

It was also through Mikhail's connections that Sugar Skyline came to Korea to perform at the Hanlim Arts Festival and that's where they were scouted by Wonderlust. The other two members did not wish to pursue music after high school but allowed Dimitri and Mikhail to keep the name and sign with Wonderlust.

Mikhail still dreamed of becoming an actor and appeared in a number of Korean dramas as side characters, but it was difficult having a western face in Kdrama. He was a Russian boy who spoke very good Korean so he was perfect for the Korean version of DS9 came and he played Alizati Dzharok.

Background: Juri was born in Shizuoka Japan where she spent her early childhood. She moved to Tokyo when she was in middle school. She dated soon-to-be American football star Sakuraba Haruto and the two have been close ever since. During her high school days, Juri was popular for her looks and at a football game got scouted by a Wonderlust manager. She was signed almost instantly for her beautiful looks and soft singing voice.

Juri debuted as an actress at the age of 17, playing a minor role in a slice of life love comedy. Juri and her boyfriend Haruto broke up before their high school graduation as Haruto was going off to university to play football and Juri was going to pursue acting.

Juri appeared on multiple variety shows and TV dramas in Japan and Korea during this time. Wonderlust eventually moved her to the Korean headquarters where she got significantly more jobs. She became an established actress and model, dabbling in some singing as well. She gained a lot of popularity playing female leads in fantasy dramas.

Her biggest guest role by far was her appearance on Deep Space Nine as Renakir’s (played by Minghao Tan) fiancee. She played a Romulan by the name of Valleka t’Rylov.

TRAINEE PROFILE: MUYANG 무양

Strengths: Stunts, acting Brief personality: He is a young talent with a lot of determination. 

Background: Muyang was born in Singapore to two wealthy Chinese immigrants. His mother worked in real estate and his father was an ambassador. He went to exclusive private schools from a young age and when he was finishing up elementary school his father was to be transferred to the Singaporean Embassy in France. Seeing this as an opportunity for his son to grow, he brought Muyang with him.

Muyang attended a grand ecole, top level school in France and wanted to go into acting. His school participated in an theatre festival in Japan where Muyang was noticed by a Wonderlust scout and asked to audition. Knowing 0 Japanese, Muyang rejected the offer and finished up his education in France. After his graduation he returned to Singapore to complete his mandatory military service.

After his military service he decided to audition for The Wild Idol, a survivor-esque idol competition. He was the only Singaporean contestant accepted onto the show and ranked 15th overall. He said he auditioned because he heard Overlord member Karina was one of the judges and admired him. On the show, he listed one of his talents was speaking Klingon.

Despite his failure to make the cut to debut, Muyang was signed to Wonderlust as a trainee and was a backup dancer. After a year of training he made his acting debut in Star Trek DS9 as Renakir Torre’vnau, a Romulan-Reman operations officer. Muyang gained popularity as Renakir with his official fanclub called “Sunshines”. He also debuted in the temporary idol unit Polaris.

Idol Profile: Dimitri 디미트리

Name: Dimitri Riddle Position: Produce contestant (winner), JO1 member, producer Birthdate: 20XX.05.16 Hometown: UK

Family: Mother (Laura Riddle), Cousin (Winter Shen) Face claim: Maddox Misc fact: Nicknamed “The Prince”, Dimitri was hugely popular and won second place in Produce 101 right behind Kazumi. Him and Kazumi become close during the show as they were on the same initial unit with Haruma as the “Foreign Exchange Student Team”.

Strengths: Songwriting and music Brief personality: He doesn’t have a lot of self motivation aside from “this is what is expected of me”. He also has bouts of anger, but no one has really seen him like that. He is sometimes called the “Dark Prince” and is typically seen with snake motifs. 

Background: Dimitri was born in the spotlight and thus has always had eyes on him. He was born in the UK, but due to family circumstances moved constantly between the UK and Hong Kong. He attended private college in the UK where he auditioned with some friends for JYP. He made it and was signed. Before he finished school, he was sent off to Japan to compete in P101 (he graduated early).

Dimitri was one of many foreign contestants on the show and was paired with Matsumoto Kazumi and Han Taeyang (Haruma). Dimitri captured fans with his beautiful solo stages where he showcased his performance abilities. Dimitri already had a solid fanbase since his mother constantly showed him off on her SNS. Dimitri’s concepts were mostly dark and lots of snake motifs, he composed his songs in a mix of Mandarin and English.

He won P101 along with Kazumi and entered JO1 before the group disbaned only a few months later. Dimitri returned to JYP and joined a sub unit with Alexei Muxtar, Rain Song, and some others. The group only lasted a few months before Alexei sued and Rain returned to Wonderlust. Dimitri disappeared and became a full time songwriter until he made his solo debut with Wonderlust. Dimitri mainly works as a songwriter, but also still has a large fanbase and solo career. At Wonderlust he is close with his fellow producers and his cousin, Winter Shen. Winter joked that he didn’t even know Dimitri was an idol until he met him during lunch at Wonderlust. 

Dimitri addresses his fans as Dreamies, although his official fanclub is Orphiucus, the serpent bearer constallation.

Retro Idol Profile: Ren 렌

Background: Born alongside her twin sister, Laura Riddle, Ren lived mostly in her sister’s shadow. She got into the entertainment industry with Laura, but did not see nearly the same success. She was quirky and silly, but it wasn’t what companies wanted to see. She was able to do some modeling at a young age and got into stage acting. Just like her sister, she often flew between Hong Kong and the UK.

Whilst Laura was scouted by a Korean company, Ren continued with school and did acting when there was work. She studied theatre in university in Hong Kong, but after graduation she moved to Singapore with her boyfriend at the time. Her relationship with Laura was always strained because whilst she wanted to support and stay beside her sister, Laura didn’t seem to want to have anything to do with her. When Ren and her husband Rui announced their wedding, Laura did not even attend.

Ren had Winter and soon became a full time stay at home mum. When Winter was very little, Ren and her husband were in a car accident and Rui was killed. Once Ren’s condition was stable, she flew with Winter to Singapore to hold the funeral. Knowing she could not support Winter on her own, Ren decided to try looking for work. They lived with Rui’s parents, but it was clear that Ren wouldn’t be able to support Winter alone. Fortunately, it was also at this time that she got a contact from a theatre company in the UK where she used to perform. She flew back to the UK and decided to work a normal day job and act in hopes of earning enough to send to Winter back in Singapore.

Retro Idol Profile: Laura 라우라

Background: Laura was born in the UK to a British father and Chinese mother. She often went back and forth between Hong Kong and the UK as a child. Her parents were both well known actors and she was born in the spotlight. She was a child model and went into acting. She was scouted by a Korean company and joined a girl group when she was only 15.

Laura was one of 9 other girls in her group and was active for about 5 years in the group. She had a successful acting and modeling career in the group and was nicknamed the “Dark Queen” for her edgier concepts. Right after the group celebrated their 5th year, Laura was wrapped up in a dating scandal, which led many fans to demand her removal from the group. She slipped out of the public eye for a few years after that. 

No one heard from Laura until the group Orion of JYP announced they would be switching over to a new company, “Wonderlust”. Laura was listed as executive producer and fans were shocked to see she actually made a company. 

In 2006 Laura announced her pregnancy with her son, Dimitri Riddle and stepped down as executive of Wonderlust. She gave Orion’s leader, Tora, the new CEO position.

Whilst not active as an idol anymore, Laura is active behind the scenes with songwriting and producing a lot of Wonderlust content.

Idol Profile: Yumika 유미카

Name: Yumika Kamisato (神里有美香) Position: Soloist Birthdate: 2009  Hometown: Bangkok, Thailand

Brief personality: Yumika is a powerful performer with a lot of charm on stage. However off stage she is very shy and is not that great with variety. She is a kind and caring girl who just wants to try new things and travel.

Yumika was born in Bangkok Thailand to a large family with many siblings and step parents. Although she was assigned male at birth, it was clear when she was young that she much preferred presenting as a girl. She identifies as non-binary, she/her pronouns.

Yumika did not attend any formal education until she was 13 years old when she had the chance to participate in an exchange programme. She moved to Japan and lived with the Kamisato family who subsequently adopted her soon after. She struggled a lot in school, but ran into some luck when she was scouted on the street to model for a fashion magazine. She quickly gained popularity and became popular. She was scouted right before she entered high school and participated in a modeling contest. She decided to switch to home-schooling/tutoring so she could pursue her career in entertainment.

She was signed under Genshin Entertainment and flew to China to start her career there. She debuted as a solo artist and had a fairly successful career. Her fanclub name is called “Dreamies”. After her contract finished when she was 25, she did not renew with Genshin, but switched over to Wonderlust as she dreamed of performing in Korea and expanding into acting (something which Genshin was not willing to let her do). 

During the height of her solo career, Yumika was cast as the part of Aella 5 in a Star Trek spin-off series Deep Space Nine. She quickly became the centre of attention with her role as Aella.

Idol Profile: Karina 카리나

Name: Karina Yu [Uyghur:يۇكارىنا, mandarin: 余卡林纳 (Yu Karina) ]  Position: Main vocal, Overlord Birthdate: 2008.01.17 Hometown: Xinjiang, China

Family: Mother and father, Valeriya (twin sister) Face claim: Chen Junjie (CHUANG 2021 contestant) Misc fact: Karina is Muslim and although he never explicitly states it, his actions and beliefs are enough. One particular trait is that he does not touch anyone he is not related to outside of work obligations. One way fans could deduce him and Diluc were married or at least in serious relationship was Dispatch’s photos showed Diluc touching Karina’s shoulder to offer him some water which is something not even Alexei would do. In all public appearances Karina is never seen touching anyone aside from Valeriya and Diluc. Alexei and Karina do touch for their performances, but only on stage to portray their characters. 

Strengths: Strong personal belief system, very honest and straight forward, always knows what he wants, great performer and storyteller, hard working Weaknesses: Very condescending, hypocritical, can come off as harsh, avoids problems whenever he can, has high expectations of others and when they don’t meet them he will immediately distance himself from them

Brief personality: Karina is very conservative and strict with his beliefs. Ironically, he is best friends with Alexei who is the most unreliable person at Wonderlust (besides Winter, maybe). Karina and Alexei have great chemistry together and Karina says he stays with Alexei because he loves the stories they tell. Karina is in love (and married to) Diluc, yet has said multiple homophobic things. He mentions to reporters that he is glad him and Alexei don’t live together because he does not “agree with Alexei’s lifestyle” however??? Karina is literally living with his husband. 

Karina was born in Xinjiang to Uyghur parents and has a twin sister. From a young age, Karina was gifted in academics and his parents were wealthy enough to send him to state of the art schools. His sister earned a scholarship to study in Russia when she was very young so the two of them spent most of their childhood apart. Karina was trained in music and dance alongside his academics as he was wealthy enough to be able to take so many private lessons.

When Karina was ready to enter high school, he decided to study abroad at Shuuetsu Academy in Japan after receiving a scouting offer. Right before his graduation, Karina’s sister contacted him and told him she did not plan to return to Xinjiang and that she wanted to pursue music like he was. Karina agreed to help her out and they auditioned for Genshin Entertainment together. Unfortunately Karina did not make it and Valeriya was admitted as a trainee. Karina was prepared to take the Gaokao (Chinese national exam) the following year, but at cram school he was scouted by a manager of a survival programme. Karina quickly took the offer and was flown to Beijing to participate.

Karina quickly pairs up with fellow Uyghur Alexei Muxtar and the two become an iconic pair. Even though they get eliminated early on, JYP China signs them and they form the duo called Overlord. 

Overlord has a “angel and demon” concept where Alexei is the demon and Karina is the angel. The two specialise in over the top effects and even employ wrestling in their shows. In Korea, the two have a difficult time trying to get onto music programmes as most mainstream programmes dislike their “violent” and dangerous choreography.

Even though Overlord never sees much success as a group, Karina gets a lot of popularity as an actor. He plays the roll of “Kyros” in a Star Trek spin-off series and immediately rises to become one of the top rookie actors. Karina and fellow co-actor Reese show off their close friendship that many mistake for a relationship but Karina reassures fans he is very much single.

After Overlord’s lawsuit, Karina sticks with Alexei and the two make vlogs and funny videos together or with their friends (Valeriya and DCKZ of Genshin Ent.) Dispatch suddenly leaks photos of Karina and DCKZ member Diluc together, but the two deny anything suspicious is happening between them. Not too long after that, fans deduce that Karina and Diluc are definitely in a relationship if not married as Karina’s sister posts some photos and comments hinting at her brother’s wedding/relationship. 

Karina suddenly terminates his contract with Wonderlust and signs to Genshin Entertainment not too long after those rumors spread. Him and Alexei also post a vlog about Karina moving out to live with Diluc.

IDOL PROFILE: Alexei 알렉스이

Strengths: Very outgoing and friendly, good with languages, strong English skills, handsome visual, good at costume and art direction Weaknesses: Can be lazy at times, not very reliable (often late), does not take thing seriously unless there is consequences, easily swayed and does not have very strong personal values

Brief personality: Since he attended international school, Alexei speaks native-level English and grew up with a Christian background. Despite being of Uyghur descent, he is not great at Uyghur and often struggles with vocabulary, He is super outgoing and friendly, but sometimes his personality can come accross as weak as he tends to just go along with everyone else. His biggest weakness is his reliability. One reason why Overlord does not release music regularly is because Alexei is horrible with deadlines and even if he is given a task with a deadline, he rarely makes it. Even worse, Alexei usually does not seem to show any remorse for tadiness as he just considers it “part of his personality”. Alexei is also a bit of a chuuni despite his age, he insists on wearing his horns everywhere and that he is “dragon fae”. 

Alexei was abandoned at birth and taken in by a loving family. He parents already had a biological daughter who became his sister. For some reason, Alexei was tormented by nightmares for more of his childhood and had a lot of difficulty sleeping, Despite doing multiple sleep studies, his parents were unable to find out what was troubling him.

When he was only 6 years old, his parents enrolled him and his sister in music school, Alexei was not particularly talented, but his sister was. The two were offered scholarships to both Night Raven College and Royal Sword Academy for high school.

After graduation, Alexei entered a Chinese survival show but did not make it to the final rounds, Instead, him and another contestant ended up getting signed under JYP as a duo called “Overlord”. They were active for a year before the two of them sued JYP and signed under Wonderlust.

The concept of their duo was angel and demon and the two of them take that concept to heart. Alexei typically wears his horns and pointed fangs for promotional material and his partner Minghao wears angel wings, The two are popular for being very serious about their group concept, even appearing in costume for non-idol activities.

Alexei dates fellow Wonderlust producer Seungkwan, but the two keep their relationship a secret until Alexei turns 25. The two met through labelmate Rain who set them up on a blind date.

IDOL PROFILE: RAIN 레인

Rain was raised by his very lazy uncle in Taiwan. His parents were deemed unfit to raise him (reason unknown, Rain never mentions it) and the state gave custody to his uncle. Growing up was really difficult for Rain as he wasn’t very gifted in academics. He spent his days watching whatever his uncle had on TV and would do odd-jobs for neighbors to earn some cash.

As a kid, his favourite thing to do was imitations of celebrities, actors, or anyone else he could find. He was always a class clown and had a real knack for his impersonations. Rain’s poor academic performance caught up to him when it was time to go to senior high school and he realised he had little to no chance to go anywhere decent. With literally nothing to lose, Rain applied to an international school in Japan and was accepted. He moved to Japan on his own and finished his education there. Rain started his own youtube channel and gained quite a large following online with his videos done mostly in Japanese.

In Japan he met his soon-to-be husband Jade, although for most of their time in school together they were just friends with benefits. They began dating only a few months before their graduation and they decided to go back to Taiwan together.

Back in Taiwan, Rain had long decided he was going to enlist in the military and Jade was going to work at their friend’s restaurant. After Rain had finished boot camp, they got a call from Wonderlust Entertainment with an offer to sign as a trainee. Rain agreed and him and Jade moved to Korea. Rain began trainee life and Jade began to work on making his own restaurant (Rain often worked part time whenever he wasn’t in lessons).

Only about a month into his training, a certain someone leaked Rain and Jade’s sex tape and it caused quite a stir online. Rain and Jade’s relationship was already strained due to stress with Rain’s trainee life and Jade trying to open a restaurant, now this scandal made things so much worse.

Despite the scandal, Rain made his debut a year later and Jade’s restaurant was starting to make money. After his first round of promotions, Rain proposes to Jade and they return to Taiwan to get married. 

Rain’s best friends are Kazumi and Cyrus (Diamond Studios founder). Rain lives with his husband Jade in a nice villa in Gangnam.

Unfortunately her engagement with Cyrus does not work out and she decides to focus on her career as a singer. She is signed by Wonderlust Entertainment (Japan) whilst working with Cyrus. She makes her solo debut with a collaboration song with Haruma, although after that she decides to transfer to Wonderlust Korea and continue her career there.

TRAINEE PROFILE: CIEL 시일

Ciel was born into a middle-class family and his father made money by scamming people through his fake church/kinda like a cult. He was forced to learn the ways to hustling and scamming at a young age to help his father’s business, but when he was 9, his mother took him and escaped. Ciel and his mother lived on the streets when they were not bouncing between shelters around the area. Despite all this drama, Ciel continued to attend school and was eventually invited to Night Raven College.

After his father heard news of his acceptance to such a prestigious school, he insisted that he gift Ciel money for his studies. Ciel refuses, however his mother accepts the money instead. During his first year of school, he hears of his father’s arrest, but does not go back home. Instead, a friend of a friend (Tora) offers him a place to stay during his school breaks. 

Ciel spends his breaks at Wonderlust and engages in normal trainee activities, however he is technically not a trainee at Wonderlust.

Strengths: Performance, acting, variety shows/personality, adjusting to new cultures and interacting with people from all over the world

Brief personality summary: Haruma was raised by his very conservative mother and his personality reflects that. He tends to be closed minded, esp when it comes to minority groups (despite being a gay Korean man who was raised in Japan and studied in Zahra, but don’t tell him that). He tends to come off as condescending and it can be difficult to tell when he is teasing or is actually angry. He is easy to get along if he likes you, but otherwise he can be a bit of a dick.

Haruma was born in Fukuoka and from there lived a normal life. His father was a linguist and was working with a language institute in Zahra. His parents separated not too long after he started to attend school so he didn’t really see his father during his childhood. Haruma was raised by his conservative mother in their small Korean community in Japan.

When it was time to go to high school, Haruma decided he wanted to visit his father and so he applied to a Zahran performing arts school. He was accepted and lived with his father in Zahra. There he learned Zahran and studied theatre. Haruma wanted to remain in Zahra and decided to enlist in the military so he would be able to attend Zahran university. He was in the military for 18th months before enrolling in university.

Right after his first year of Zahran university, he flew back to Japan to compete in P101, however he was only on the show 1 month before his elimination. Since he had already withdrawn from university, he knew he would either need to attend university in Japan or somehow convince his father to let him return to Zahra. He decided to live on the streets and busk for a living instead. Needless to say it was not that successful, however Haruma was scouted by Mankai after just two months of not very successful street acts.

Haruma works as a stage actor under Mankai Company’s Summer Troupe as well as a model under Wonderlust Entertainment.

During his time at Mankai, Haruma meets Guy, a former royal servant and member of Winter Troupe. Fellow Mankai member and former Zahran prince, Citron, convinces Guy to court Haruma. The two agree and Haruma and Guy have a short 2 month courtship until they are married in Zahra. Haruma is happily married to Guy and the two live a nice life at Mankai.

Strengths: Caring and outgoing, singing, very open minded, strong with languages Weaknesses: Can come off as pushy, avoids topics she doesn’t want to talk about, doesn’t keep secrets well, weak dancer, without knowing it she could stab you in the back

Brief personality: Sunwoo is a strong vocalist, but lacks in dancing ability. She has alwys had a lot of friends and often goes out to drink and party when she can. Unfortunately for her, she has a lot of male friends which often lead to dating rumors but she always refuses to talk about them. She tends to be a bit snippy with the media and her fellow members at times. She is very self-motivated, but she is also not above stepping on a few toes to get what she wants. She is best friends with Kazumi, but has said homophobic things in the past which leave fans to believe she doesn’t truly respect Kazumi and only sees him as her “gay best friend” accessory.

Sunwoo was born in Busan two years before her younger brother Mingyu. She was separated from her brother when her parents divorced and grew up in Korea. She attended SOPA for high school and trained hard under JYP so she could one day meet her brother again. She always regretted not being able to be a good older sister for Mingyu and hoped that by becoming an idol the two could meet.

She got her wish during a SOPA/Yumenosaki joint concert when she was able to fly to Japan to perform. To her surprise, her brother was now a student of Yumenosaki and was performing. She promised Mingyu that once they graduated, they would do a lot of performances together as she planned to get JYP to let her train with Wonderlust.

Unfortunately right before her debut with Radiance, Wonderlust and JYP split and she was told she would not debut with Radiance. She decided to take a stand and signed with Wonderlust so she could be with Mingyu. Even though the two ended up in different groups, they still spend a lot of time together making music and singing together.

Sunwoo is also best friends with Mingyu’s temp-bandmate Matsumoto Kazumi.
