woc characters get put on a pedestal in their fandoms in a way that is so boring and itself kinda dehumanising. i dont just wanna hear about how they’re flawless queens, i want them to feel specific and real. and i understand why it happens, especially with younger fans, but fandom of these characters that’s oriented more around defending them from haters rather than engaging with them (beyond empty, repetitive adulation) is so… limiting and profoundly boring. you could explore these characters on their own merit instead you neglect any potential interiority, humanity, complexity in favour of letting rando haters be a hair trigger and building your faves up as impenetrable fortresses against them. and then its just girlboss with a coat of brown paint

never seen a character more sexless and glue-paste in consistency than Syril Karn. That man is who Kellogg's wanted everyone to be. The watered down skim milk. The slightly damp odorless air. If he was a spice he'd be flour. If he was a musical note it'd be anything flat. Can't even assign him a texture because he's so textureless. Grey if it wanted to be more understated. He has an air of carbon monoxide about him. If he was shirtless he probably wouldn't even have nipples.

Dedra Meero + Outfits in ANDOR Season 2

“What a thrill this season to think about what Dedra wears when she’s not dressed in her ISB uniform. That was a gift from Tony Gilroy. Denise and I really talked a lot about this. We get to see Dedra in her apartment. It’s so important to see that other side of her. She gets home. She’s probably super relieved to take off the armor of the ISB highly-tailored uniform. But, in a way, she just sort of changes into another version of that. The colors are the same. She slips into clothes that are more comfortable, but also in a structured and formal way. She keeps that rigidity even in her private life. She believes so much in her morality and ethics that I think she can’t ever let that slip. Her mentality is very black and white. I think she only wears ivory and black this whole season.” - Michael Wilkinson, Andor costume designer

like it’s not actually a problem itself to show fascist soldiers having reservations about doing mass murder or feeling bad about it, the Nazis sometimes relied on local conscripts & collaborators to conduct pogroms in order to “relieve” the psychological toll those things took on German soldiers. Depicting soldiers not enjoying genocide isn’t like an endorsement of fascism in and of itself. But the singular popular depiction of a fascist (including in Andor) is either a total depraved mass murderer who loves killing babies or a small bean who sees the error of his ways and realises just in time that “blood and soil” might actually mean blood and soil. There’s no actual human beings being depicted in either of these accounts. it is not remotely clever or interesting or subversive. fundamentally this depiction arises from the fact that (to paraphrase Cesaire) Hitler resides in all of our hearts and we will at the end of the day emotionally connect with the fascist on our tv screen before we connect with any of his victims

how can this show have such an acute understanding of dedra's position as a woman within the ISB and why leda is so adamant about defying her mother but cinta gets killed off for zero reason and bix gets relegated to a punching bag and eventually completely discarded as a character?? why are some female characters treated with sensitivity and respect while others are forgotten?? unless. no i shan't say it
