— Chewing hard at his bottom lip, Luke’s eyebrows furrow deeply. He’s always been one to underplay situations, and in turn, the rather nasty cut along his upper thigh is practically disregarded for the time being. He adverts his gaze, and gives a simple shrug of his shoulders.

      “Look, s’nothin’ worse than I’ve dealt with before. I’ll clean it up myself later, it’ll be fine.”

         “   Well, with that limp you’re not going to get far if you get crowded by a group of empties.  ”     he never does call them ‘walkers’ unlike Rick and the rest of his group. His horse neighs at his side, brushing out its mane. Paul regards his horse with a brief look before glancing over at the other man. “   You can borrow my horse to your destination but don’t think for a second I’m letting you out of my sight as you ride him.   ”   there’s a wryness in his smile.   “  I’m rather fond of him.   ”    meaning trying to steal it is a big no.

          The dizziness that is kicking in from the blood loss is all too real. Paul’s brows furrow as he tries to rein in the pain. It’s not often he gets hurt, not like this, but with Jake’s life in danger he can’t help but put himself in the line of danger without thought. The aftermath is a bad gash across his stomach, he thinks; he doesn’t dare check it, instead focusing on putting pressure on the wound instead.    “   Mm?   ”   his voice sounds too soft as dark eyes open to try to focus on Jake’s face.

     IT’S NOT BEEN SINCE RUBY THAT A SMILE has lifted his heart and given him butterflies and he feels SILLY about it but Jake embraces it at the same time. Venturing into this WHATEVER IT IS  will be a first for him in the ways of being with another male. It’s terrifying but its also exciting to say the least. The thought doesn’t escape him if its more than obvious to Paul but he won’t even bother to ask. Jake has already surprised himself enough by making that first move, but he knows that if he didn’t then he’d have regretted it later. Maybe Paul senses his damage and somehow knew that he shouldn’t push too hard for anything. The man seems INTUITIVE in such ways. When Paul breaks free and those lips of his peck a few more onto his jawline, Jacoby can’t help but to take a deep intake of air. His heart feels like its in his stomach, but in an indescribable GOOD way. “I’ve not been sure of A LOT in my life, but this isn’t one of them.” 

             “   Alright,  ”    he murmurs, and it’s almost a hum under his breath. It’s a nice feeling, having Jacoby close like this. Comforting. It’s been a long while since Paul has felt anyone tug at his heart strings. There’s always little time for feelings, but Jake took him off guard and before Paul knew it he was a goner. Paul reaches a hand to brush away some of Jake’s hair back. A tender smile is across handsome features then.  “   I didn’t say anything at first because I wasn’t sure exactly how you felt.   ”   people reading is normally something Paul’s good at but Jake’s signals often looked mixed at times. It can’t be helped. They’re here, now, anyways.

             “   It isn’t easy to change a person’s mind once it’s made.   ” or heart, for that matter. He’s learned that in his years. It’s a big weight that Gabe’s putting on his shoulders now.  Guilt is a powerful emotion.    “   I’m sure you did all that you could, Gabe. Don’t be so hard on yourself.  ”   sympathy etches his voice. Perhaps, the younger one has been holding onto these feelings for awhile now, unable to voice them.

               Dark brows furrow instantly. The thought of Jacoby being willing to do anything for him is both tender and worrying. He doesn’t for a second want the other risking his life either. Though he’s aware his words might have hurt Jake’s feelings, telling him not to worry. Of course, Jake is going to worry.    “   I’m sorry.   ”     his voice is earnest, fingers pressing against his arm that is seeping with blood through his brown duster. He grimaces through the pain.    “   I just don’t want to worry you, Jake. I’ll be more careful.  ”

He knows from Maggie that Negan is still alive, out there. From what she’s said he sounds rather eager to die but Paul knows Negan’s always been a wild card. There’s no predicting him.

         HANDS GESTURE upwards in an almost mock-surrender motion. It isn’t the first time Paul’s had a gun aimed at him as can be probably obvious his rather mellow attitude at the moment. Regardless, it’s still a bit irritating at times.       “   Hey now, hasn’t anyone told you before that aiming a gun at people’s face is rude? I’m not here to cause problems if that’ll reassure you. ”
